A "legit" diagnosis is not required for people to have mental disorders. Each person is the expert on what they experience.

All a diagnosis does is put a "official" name on it and maybe get treatment if you're lucky enough to afford it / have a generous medical system near you that does financial assistance programs.

I do agree to some extent and I acknowledge there are a lot of people out there who do have legitimate issues. This isn't aimed at them. But I also think it's a self fulfilling prophecy in some regards as well. My wife is a teacher and says that there are a lot of kids now who are a lot less able to deal with the usual stresses and strains in life because as soon as they hit a road block there is a tendency to instinctively claim "mental health issues" rather than deal with the issues at hand and a lot of the time it doesn't come from the children themselves but their parents.

There is a difference between the people who diagnose themselves because they want to deal with whatever they are going through and those who want to use it as an excuse. I think sometimes people forget this side of things.

At the end of the day what difference does labelling yourself as neurodivergent actually make? Some people have a harder time in life than others and that's unfortunate but you still got to live life the same as others and no one should give you a free pass.

Obviously this doesn't apply to people who have had a legit diagnosis from a medical professional. I'm talking about people who self diagnose.

Like most things it depends.

My initial knee jerk reaction is to say its all bad but now Im in a position where I can influence hiring and firing Ive slightly changed my view.

If I were to move job I would have no issues trying to bring some of my old team with me. Not because they are mates but because I trust them and know they will do a good job.

You want to work with people you trust and know you can work with effectively. Relationships like that can take a long time to form. Bringing on board people you have an existing relationship can be a good thing in terms of hitting the ground running and not having the risk of hiring fresh where you dont really know what you are going to get. Until theyve been in for six months.

I work in IT and we do managed support. Its not uncommon for an IT manager of a company we support to move jobs and try and take us with him due to the existing relationship we have.

For those sorts of things I dont have an issue with it. But I completely get it can and usually will be abused.

I think for anything publicly funded there needs to be more transparency for obvious reasons.

I was really looking forward to the game. Ive completed it. Assume Ive got the bad ending but by collecting all the relics no idea how to get the hood ending if there is one.

Depends on the person. Some people will react positively and some negatively. It depends on your level of emotional intelligence to work out what motivational techniques work on whom.

My mum is a Mormon. Shes harmless and it hasnt affected any of her relationships outside the fact my dad thinks its weird she wont drink alcohol. If the biggest complaint anyone can have over her is she doesnt drink beer then good for her and other Mormons tbh.

It's weird how the dude was originally sent to prison for 7 years in the 70s and has been in there for his entire life since.

I feel the fact they won't let him out now due to the fact he lacks the "skills to manage his risk of future violence" is a sign of the system failing and an admission he is so institutionalised that he just wouldn't be able to cope in the real world.

Even fucking more abhorrent is when you realise there are a lot of rapists and child abusers that get a lot less time.

Looking at how much some of my favourite TV shows like Lost, BSG, GOT and Dexter got s*** on in the final seasons. I'm curious are there any examples of decent long running franchises that actually had a decent ending?

The only one I can think of that I've seen was The Leftovers and even that left a lot unanswered...

Firmly of the opinion he will never finish the books. He's 74 and not in good health. After the way the ending to the TV show was crapped on he knows he's never going to be able to make something people will be happy with so he'd rather go down in history as one of the greats leaving their masterpiece unwritten. That way people can browse his notes and drafts and try and piece it together and if it sucks it isn't his fault.

Should just get Sanderson to pick it up while GRRM is still kicking so he can have some input on the high points.

basically: like everything else involving gunplagirl, people are looking for any reason to hate her. she was kinda rude to a guy who had previously said virulently homophobic things about a murdered gay man. because she is trans and left-leaning, people blew it way out of proportion and took the guy's side, and held it against her for literally years when she didn't actually do anything wrong.
