It actually makes sense that Obama ended up this way. Unless the pictures were taken from your private page, the onus is on you. Posting anything on a public forum makes the picture open to the public. You are posting something to literally share it with the world, which you have to take note that this unfortunately will include people who take the photo you just posted and do something you may not like with it.

So like Kloe just said, this comes down to technical literacy. Always post with caution. Frankly the general public ignorance of a digital footprint is concerning. The shit people post that they don't want others to see is mind blowing.

Have you considered this exclusive focus on "personal responsibility" and no focus on police behavior or the implications of AI is exactly what the cops and large tech companies want, and how they'll get away with introducing the bad things under our noses? This is a perfect chance to talk about such things, but instead of talking about institutions and policies, you're talking about individuals and functionally letting the institutions walk for their policies. The policies are the problem not some teenager or mom posting things to Instagram. The policy of the police should be not to create giant AI databases. The policy of tech companies should be to protect people's data posted on their platforms. The policy of Congress should be to ban the use of AI for these purposes, the scraping of data, and police attempts to do either.

This is one reason why the anti-LGBT panic right now is so infuriating.

The actual groomers are people of positions in power and influence, people that it's uncomfortable or even dangerous to accuse of wrongdoing, people that are above suspicion. It's the pillars of the community. People who seek unrestricted access to kids and who are granted it because of their position, people who rely on that.

It's not drag queens that kids meet once at an event at the library with their parents. It's parents, priests, politicians, and family friends.

Why are some of you so eager to excuse dystopian actions by the police? Even if the photos were "public" have you considered that the police still shouldn't have scraped them into a giant AI database? The type of database people used to only be included in by committing or at least being arrested for actual crimes? And would you like it if the cops scanned your face and added it to a law enforcement database anytime you went outside? Why not, you literally went out into the public with your face uncovered!

Also, there's nothing forcing the police to scrape Facebook with AI. That's a choice they're making for nefarious purposes. It's something that should be illegal with any sort of data privacy/protection laws. You should be demanding those instead of going
"meh, no one is in control of AI" or "but it's public tho"

I work for the very same government he does. I'd be fired and banned from ever working for the government again if it came out that I did even one 1/10000th of this. We're literally not allowed to accept gifts of more than $20 at a time!

As for judges, they're not supposed to accept gifts from anyone that may signifacntly benefit from a judge doing or not doing their job....like a billionaire for example.

Hockeybub is criticizing thought patterns/ideologies and how they manifest in concrete actions. It's perfectly valid to judge people by what they say and do. There's no comparison between that and judging people for being LGBT or black or a woman.

I don't think hockeybub is saying anything new. MLK Jr. said "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly."

As far as I can tell, that's the same idea hockeybub is expressing, just with more frustration because people here seem to be advocating for the "just ignore anything that doesn't affect you and make small talk for 80 years" method of politics. We cannot simply say "I'm happy, I see that X group is suffering, but I'm going to just focus on my family and friends" and think that things will work out dandy. Oppression grows and justifies itself by its example. You can't be treated worse than the lowest person in society, so if you raise how they're treated, you're raising the floor for yourself.

Politics doesn't go away when people stop thinking about it, it merely gets decided without them. Research has proven that the less people think about politics and the more they refuse to discuss it, the more they think it's something for other people to handle, the more corrupt, nonprosperous, and ironically, the more conflict heavy society becomes. Because regular people don't exercise their political muscles, they're at the whim of the powerful who simply decide things for them without regard to what would actually be good for most people. The elite just fight amongst themselves, seeing ordinary people as collateral damage and pawns, if they think about them at all.

Politics is not just colors on a map, it determines everything about your life, what you do in your waking hours, who you are allowed to form relationships with, what terms those relationships will have, whether you are secure in your physical safety, everything. Politics has serious practical implications.

Voting is not the start or end of politics. That mindset is why we have such trash politics where no change ever changes, except for the negative. Politics is literally the process by which we decide social relations and the exercise of power. It involves interpersonal debates, and yes, sometimes they'll get toxic. Nothing that's been said in this topic is anywhere near as toxic as being unable to buy a home and paying inflated rent on deflated wages. We should be having spirited debates about why that is, whenever and wherever we can and twice on Sundays.

Where the fuck is the response from Democrats? Where's the anger? They're stripping rights from a class of people at a rapidly accelerating pace, they're doing things that would have been unthinkable as recently as 2020. There was once a huge outrage and pushback against NC's bathroom bill, and these bills include that and far far worse, and yet it seems like only activists are talking about it.

There's always someone that can take your place. If not someone, then a machine. To achieve what's being suggested, 100s or 1000s of people would need to act at the same time, and that just won't happen. So again, as an individual, I have absolutely no power to change things.

There's not if we work together. It absolutely is possible. I don't see how giving up is a better option for you. You already seem to recognize what happens if you go that route. It'll be more of the same. We've done it before in even worse circumstances, so we can do it again. There's a reason you're not working a 14 hour shift at a mine right now, have a minimum wage, have a weekend, etc and it's because people saw greed like what we're experiencing now organized, joined together, withheld their labor, fought, died, and won. And that was in an era with no protections for labor and where private companies were hired to straight up kill workers, rather than just convince them not to unionize.

The only thing that allows the owners to get away with all this is the atmosphere of fear, and most of all apathy and futility they've created. That doing the one thing that works is impossible or nave to even think about. It's a strategy, it's their greatest hope and their greatest weapon, don't fall for it.

This bill will absolutely kill children. It'll deny children healthcare and basic knowledge, which will kill them. It will force detransition which will kill people. It'll muzzle teachers who try to teach or show empathy. It'll segregate students and force them into the wrong spaces. It's a blatant attempt to erase trans people from public life, as people have been warning for years now.

To the people who will inevitably dispute this characterization, if some state government banned chemo or dialysis or some other recommended treatment necessary to preserve mental health and life, you wouldn't dispute that they were trying to harm people who needed that treatment.

That's not true, the one core fact of capitalism is that it's a machine that runs on debt and endless growth. The workers are the ones who generate that growth, the machine can't do a single thing without us and the owners can't tolerate slowdowns or stoppages. Enough of them will build a separate base of power from our current systems and bring them to their knees.

I've actually litigated these cases before. There's so many reasons. Even clear as day cases can take years due to the slowness of the legal system. At the end of the process, a defendant can simply refuse to pay or can fold up, and that adds more years to the process if pursued. Evidence is often very difficult to find, preserve, and present, especially if it's a cash based business/under the table employment. Litigating takes huge amounts of time and energy away from the victim. When you get fired for retaliation, you're still out of a job, even if it's blatant and you win the retaliation case. The government agencies that are supposed to investigate and enforce this stuff are underfunded and understaffed. They're working with trash laws and trash judges that at best make wage theft a cost of doing business, rather than something to really fear like theft related to property.

All of this even assumes that people are aware of their rights. Many service, agricultural, and otherwise low wage workers face language barriers or immigration status related barriers. Some don't know that plaintiff's lawyers and government agencies work for free or for contingency. Some don't think it's worth it to have 1/3rd of their meager recovery taken by lawyers.

Basically, the entire system is broken from top to bottom. The only ways to prevent wage theft are to increase the certainty of being caught and to make the penalties drastic when you are caught...or to just have the workers control everything and pay themselves. Bosses are always going to want to pay as little as they can, regardless of the law, that's just economics.

This ends with the water putting out the fire and the fire evaporating the water. The message is stick with your own kind. It becomes mandatory viewing in Florida, Tennessee, and Texas.

It makes sense when politics is entirely internal and based on what you believe in your "heart" not based on your external effect on the world since many have given up on having one. No one even tries to solve problems, they're just on autopilot. Also, the DOJ under Biden, and all Dems is much more focused on their role as law enforcement than on civil rights or improving society in any way. He presumably still wrote the discriminatory tickets for decades. He filed internal complaints, but did not warn the public for decades. That damage can't be swept under the rug.

There's no vitriol or saying that they're dregs. I mean I'm single and I'd prefer not to be. The truth is, I never learned how to flirt and that's held me back.

Some of the women who are single are choosing to be, enjoying life as one of the first truly independent generations of women. But yeah, at least based on online dating, a lot of these women never really....developed personalities. They're on an app looking to talk, but don't know how to hold a conversation and some even explicitly state they want the guy to do everything. Some of them have pretty old fashioned ideas about gender roles that are hard to maintain in modern society unless they really bring something special to the table, either looks or personality.

The problem is that a large portion of men never picked up or were taught the interpersonal skills that spark or sustain relationships. It used to not matter because women were functionally forced to seek out men, almost regardless of their personalities due to social and economic pressure. Now that that's been removed, many women have rightly decided that it's far more enjoyable to be alone than with a guy who sucks.

I do feel for guys who don't have the skills or the looks, it can be pretty hard to acquire them as an adult. But don't let that difficulty lure you into a redpilled mindset. That's not going to help you.

I'm criticizing them. You'll probably see 2-3 particular posters here do it. I try to anticipate reactions so that I can respond to these people when they inevitably pull that BS. Maybe you don't see it as much, but I see it all the time, no matter what the guy is proven to have done. The accusation and the entirely earned negative effects of doing something terrible are seen as worse than what the guy did. That's what I'm reacting to.

The Hoteps are going to absolutely go wild at this one. They're going to accuse this woman and the media of trying to tear down a successful black man on the rise because....reasons.

If you want to make a big stink, do it in a way that may not kill people. Block access to government buildings. Block opposing politicians in their driveways. Disrupt large facilities. I'm not minimizing the alleged assault on the woman. I don't know enough about that to say anything meaningful on it. If true, he's a severe domestic abuser who will rightfully be ostracized and prosecuted.

We do have lots of info on his main acting gig though. The biggest franchise in the biggest entertainment medium, produced by the biggest entertainment company, and he's the biggest part of it. Seems worth mentioning.

This better not be true because he's the core of the MCU for the next several years and has one of the highest approval ratings of any young actor right now. Which is why the U.S. Army made him the center of one of their commercials (not ideal imo).
