Where a lot of people got hit last time was their 401k. I know a guy that lost 2/3 of his retirement fund in the last crash. I don't think a lot of people realize how much their money is used to gamble with by the banks and other various financial institutions. People put their money in the bank and think it just sits there. When in reality they're using it to buy bonds, and with the yield curve inverted they can't maintain liquidity. It's basically a Ponzi scheme. All your money is tied up in other peoples failing investments.

Because food is a cultural touchpoint, and fast food has chains across of america.
So if you want to say "this is as spicy as X" or "this is as good as X", the best reference point is a shared cultural touchstone.

Full closures lasted less than 3-4 months in most places, if they happened at all. Most businesses were able to reconfigure themselves to operate more remotely (curbside pickup, deliveries, working from home), allowing them to maintain most - if not all - of their usual revenue. There were casualties, certainly, but the vast majority of those were small businesses. Large businesses have not only been fine, but have actually been reporting record profits most quarters since the pandemic began, and it's large businesses that drive the bulk of the inflation we're seeing (in no small part because small businesses often have to buy products from large businesses in order to operate). This inflation and the waves of layoffs we see from those large businesses are just their way of keeping that growth going for as long as possible to line executives' and shareholders' pockets.

The majority of factories were able to claim they were required for a few specific things. Then casually worked on other things.
It was still massively reduced during that time.

And, once again, manufacturing is back in full swing for over a year now.

Also, US unemployment percentage is lower than it has been since World War 2.
Basically everyone who wants a job, has a job.

We are in a labor market, and businesses are scared by that.

They're not claiming manufacturing is down, or that people "just don't want to work anymore :(".

Companies are learning they can price gouge, and the recourse people have, is to die otherwise.

I build car parts.
I am also a manufacturing support engineer on the floor every day. I also deal with management, corporate and factory level.
We have not slowed production in any significant way in the past year.
We also do not have any issues getting new workers after giving a bump of $1 minimum pay.
Neither has Ford, Stellantis, GM, Tesla, nor any other car manufacturer slowed down.

There are plenty of issues happening, including drop in replacements and some supply issues. But, we're looking at 95% production at minimum in the past year.

Where's your proof?

I can also say we don't build random parts for random cars. In this factory, it's tail lights for everything from the Stellantis Jeep, to the Ford Mazda, to the Ford F150, to the Ford Explorer, to plenty more. One of our sister factory produces the Tesla tail light, and there are plenty more factories producing tail lights owned by the corporate side.

Generally you're not going to use C++, as is the case with C, you need a good reason.

Because you just look at computer science, high level of stuff.
If you're just blinking LEDs, you go with C/C++.

Learn to write code in something you will actually program in.
It's very, very, very easy to join what professionals use because "it's the best so of course I'll use it". But write in Java because you want to program minecraft. Write C# because you want to write in Unity. Write in C if you want to do microcontroller stuff.

Figure out what you want to do, and go from there.

What's really interesting is how Disney managed to take a franchise entirely built around intensive merchandising that thrived for 35 straight years and managed to wreck it so badly in only 10.

It's also starwars fans. I know someone who bought every single star wars book, brought it with him through multiple moves, and loved it from when he was a kid and watched the original series. Fast food is overrpriced cos theyre paying the workers 20 an hour. The wendys next to me still hasnt reopened inside dining cos they dont have enough people working. The people that do work there dont even give a ****. I pulled up to the intercom once and was told dont even bother ordering unless you can wait 15 minutes for your food cos we are understaffed but if you can wait 15 minutes then go ahead with your order.

You're complaining they're overpaid, and overworked?

Sunday Morning on CBS a little over a month ago did a story on ChatGPT and interviewed a couple of people, one of whom talked about how the company that produces ChatGPT takes samples from all the literary works available and tosses them into their database. Their concern was that, while some of the samples they use are from literary works that are in the public domain (that is are no longer under copyright protection), other samples are or might be, which becomes a totally different matter as far as compensation to the artists, etc.

But it's not just wholesale pasting a response, it's cutting up phrases together.
Which, unless you want to say all books are breaking the copyright of the dictionary, is not a strong argument.

Well, if software can effectively make delicious food in a reasonable amount of time, run back and forth between food prep and tending to customers of varying levels of pleasantry, and inform my bosses that something is broken or needs to be ordered, then said software can take that job. I'll just carry on in the dystopia where trillionaires are trying to figure out how to make even more money off the non-existent economy, at that point, and also why no one is producing any more art.

I imagine that'll be similar to checkout lanes vs self checkout. You can go into a resturant, sit down, tap on a tablet what you want, and have someone bring your food eventually.

Oh absolutely, auto-router will get actually *good* after being pretty bad at solving the traveling salesmen. And actually take into consideration EMC rather than just jamming traces wherever.

But, I do a whole bunch of things including:
-Destructive analysis
-ESD Control for the factory
-Supplier quality control
-Explaining to people that, yes, having a circuitboard just on a table is bad and needs to be babied
-Building testing equipment
-Fixing testing equipment

I'm not worried for my personal job right now. There's enough keeping me going that I'm not going to get fired.
