Your number 2 is hyperbolic.

Yes airlines seats have been shrinking, but not enough that an average male couldn't fit. The average male just can't spread out like they use to anymore.

The thing is, bone structure doesn't change with your weight. Your shoulder measurements don't suddenly double if you double your weight.

And based on her picture, her shoulders are normal. And her arms are about as big around as the Rock's. (all fat instead of muscle, though)

So I'd say an economy seat should be wide enough to fit the Rock. And if it was, she'd probably fit in it (tightly).

WHERE'S THE VICK'S VAP-O-RUB?!?!?!?!?!?

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/5/0/2/AAfQqfAAEY4m.jpg

---

Column One: Vivaporu: For many Latinos, memories of Vicks VapoRub are as strong as the scent of eucalyptus

https://www.latimes.com/local/california/la-me-col1-vicks-vaporub-20190326-htmlstory.html

They call it Bibaporru, Beep Vapor, El Bic, El Bix, El Vickisito.

And many think of the sticky, stinky menthol goop as their own, even though its used around the world.

In the Latino community, Vicks VapoRub inspires a curious, nostalgic devotion for its many nicknames and uses far more creative than relief for the common cold and muscle pain.

If I say to someone, Hey, bring me El Vah-po-ru! theyll know exactly what I'm talking about, said Luciano Roldan, 78, of El Sereno, who has been rubbing VapoRub all over, including up his nose, since he was a kid in the countryside of El Salvador.

Since the ointment was invented as a croup and pneumonia cure by a North Carolina pharmacist more than a century ago, many have relied on the little blue jar to solve all sorts of problems: athletes foot, stretch marks, stomach aches, earaches. Some telenovela actors even rub it on their eyes to bring about tears. Others scoop it into their coffee or their tea.

Online, there are countless tributes to its mighty powers. Some testimonials are real, some are jokes meant to mimic and spoof those with limitless faith.

Latinos have created vivaporu hashtags, memes, emojis, comedy skits and, for those still scratching their heads at the love affair, explanatory videos. Some have written about their nostalgia in dissertations, poems and published essays.

Others have dressed up as the iconic Vicks container for Halloween or celebrated moms birthday with a cake in its image.

You can buy T-shirts, paintings, pins, candles and greeting cards all featuring the little blue jar.

Mysterious rash? Vivaporu!

Broken arm? Vivaporu!

Broken heart?Put Vivaporu on that, too.

When Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda tweeted a selfie from Puerto Rico in January, holding a tub of Vicks (I knew I wouldnt get through the nine show week without peak remedies), the response was exuberant:

Abuelitas everywhere are cheering for this post
That is the brownest thing Ive ever seen you say.
Nothing like that Veevapuruu.

In 2017, a man who was accused of attempting to sell 2,000 containers of fake Vicks VapoRub across Illinois and Wisconsin did not escape attention.

Carlos Barraza, 23, was charged with violating the Trademark Counterfeiting Actafter he got busted at a store called Dos Hermanos in a little town south of Chicago.

Blasphemy! declared Latina magazine. We don't know how Barraza pulled this off. Be careful out there, folks.

Of course, not everyone is a fan.

Some people cant stand the smell or carry clammy memories of catching a cold.

Daniel Olivas, 59, doesn't recall protesting as a kid.

Each time he caught a cold, his mother would slather his chest with the salve as if she were icing a birthday cake, then put him to bed in a haze of eucalyptus.

I would just succumb to it, said Olivas, now a lawyer and writer.

He thinks his mom used VapoRub because it was affordable.

Moms had to come up with ways to heal the family, he said.

Growing up in Connecticut, Michael Diaz remembers his Dominican parents put VapoRub on acne, scrapes, cuts, bruises. They kept the jar on the dresser in their bedroom.

When he was in second grade, Diaz came home on a snowy day. Just as he had reached his familys porch, a sharp icicle broke off the gutter and landed straight on his head.

His mom saw the bloody gash and started crying. His dad, Jose, raced to grab the Vivaporu.

He slathered a big chunk of goo on his sons head and told him, Hey, youll be fine.

For three days, Diaz went to school smeared with menthol and eucalyptus.

I had this cold, waxy Vivaporu sandwich on top of my little fro, he said.

Years later, Diaz, whos now a freelance producer in New York, was amused to find that so many other Latinos he knew Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, Colombians had VapoRub stories.

In 2012, he and a few friends decided to make a Vivaporu rap video and upload it on YouTube.

In it, Diazs alter ego Juan Bago and his partner O make miracles happen as they hit the streets of New York City. With the blue jar, they help a blind man see, a paralyzed boy walk, a man heal from a gunshot wound.

You injury prone
Put on the vaporu
Man, we so immune right now
We got vivaporu!

Julia Longoria only started pondering the Vicks phenomena after she grew up and began thinking back on her childhood. In 2017, the WNYC radio reporter and producer decided to dig into the topic a little.

She interviewed dozens of people, but in the end found the best tale right at home: with her Cuban grandmother.

Malvina Camejo, 82, of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., loves Vicks VapoRub so much she affectionately calls it her Vickisito.

Shes used it for toenail fungus, to strengthen her nails, condition her hair and moisturize her skin. Sometimes she has five or six of the jars on her vanity.

Anytime any of the cousins got sick, they were like, Dont tell grandma! Shes going to put that all over you.

Longoria always thought her abuelas use of VapoRub was an American thing.

But in interviews she learned that her grandma loved the ointment because it took her back to Cuba, to the happy days before the revolution when her own mother used to rub the salve on her in the comfort of her little pink bedroom.

After the embargo cut off the conduit to American products, Longorias grandma couldnt get her Vickisito for years.

In Greensboro, N.C., there are several homages to Lunsford Richardson, the pharmacist whose salve caught on and spread.

Richardson invented a lot of remedies in the 1890s, but the one that clicked was Vicks Magic Croup Salve, created to help people breathe better when they had colds. (His son later came up with VapoRub.)

Old advertising spoke of the Romance of the Little Blue Jar with ingredients from strange, far-distant lands: menthol from Japan, camphor from the jungles of Formosa, still the haunt of untamed, savage head-hunters.

Richardsons traveling salesmen would post ads on barns, trees and automobiles. At rural drugstores, theyd scoop the salve onto a spoon and have pharmacists inhale the vapors.

He wanted Vicks to spread all over the world, Sion Boney, a former company vice president, said of his great-grandfather.

In 1918, the Spanish flu sent sales soaring, from $900,000 to $2.9 million in a single year. Ironically, Richardson was one of the thousands who died in the epidemic.

His company went on to market the ointment in England, Mexico and Central and South America, then dozens of other countries. In the 1920s, Vicks salesmen went door to door handing out coupons in small towns in Bolivia.

In the summer when sales would dip for the cold remedy, Vicks placed ads in newspapers promoting alternative uses: boils, bee stings, frostbite, headaches, poison oak, even distemper in horses.

Some people still hold that Vicks VapoRub helps in those cases.

I think people are aware airlines have been doing those things. That still doesn't excuse this woman. Like at all.

She is choosing a poor lifestyle and wants the world to accommodate that, for free.

While that's true, consider these:

  1. Are her shoulders and arms oversized compared to a normal-sized man's shoulders/arms? If they are the same sizes, then a normal man can't fit in the seat.
  2. Given that airlines keep shrinking the size of the seats, there might come a day when the average seat size on an airline will only fit someone that is 5' 0" (with a weight of 100-120 pounds), ie: a petite woman. Would you be saying the same thing in that case?
Given that the average height/width of humans beings has been steadily increasing over the last 200 years or so, the size of airline seats should be increasing to meet the increase. Not the reverse.

(I'm not talking about overweight people, but of how the average height of a man is now 5'10". Yet 20 years ago, that was 5' 9". And in 1970, it was 5' 8", and so on.)

Before everyone throws shade at the lady, read this:

Shrinking Economy Airline Seats Are Dangerous for Passengers, According to an Aviation Expert

https://www.cntraveler.com/story/airline-seat-sizes-safety-risks-op-ed

No, youre not imagining that economy class airline seat sizes have gotten tighter. They certainly have, gradually but quite consistently for more than 25 years now. As passengers, were all the proverbial frogs in hot water, and were quickly approaching the boiling point.

Tighter seats are more than just a figurative and often physical paintheyre a threat to your health, and even your life if theres an emergency evacuation from the plane cabin. In 2018, Congress told the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the government agency responsible for the publics flying safety, to set seat-size minimums that would protect passenger safety.

As part of the process for deciding what minimum seat dimensions should be, the FAA recently solicited public comments on airline seats. Before the comment period ended in early November, the agency received more than 26,000 overwhelmingly negative comments detailing why current airline seats are uncomfortable, pose health risks, and are not conducive to passenger safety. (My organization, American Economic Liberties Project, where Im a senior fellow for aviation, also submitted comments.)

Now the FAA is evaluating the comments as the next step in setting minimum airline seat sizes. In the meantime, heres why shrinking airline seats are dangerous to passengers' health and safety.

Fact: Seats are much smaller today than in previous decades

The Big Four domestic carriersAmerican, Delta, Southwest, and Unitedhave lost anywhere from 2 inches to 5 inches in legroom pitch, and 2 inches in seat width since the 1980s. (The average legroom pitch today clocks in at about 31 inches.) On ultra-low-cost carriers such as Spirit Airlines, legroom pitch has decreased even more, dipping as low as a miserable 28 inches.

While those decreasing sizes are certainly uncomfortable, the implications of smaller seats are more alarming than feeling cramped during your flight. No U.S. airlines economy seats currently meet the FAAs own research standards for the amount of room needed for proper bracing, a safety position in which passengers bend their upper torsos and lean their heads against the seat in front of them during an emergency. This in itself should be enough to regulate increases in seat sizes.

Most disturbing of all is how tighter seats impede safe egress during an emergency evacuation. Federal regulations require a full aircraft to be safely evacuated within 90 seconds, and cramped seating threatens that benchmark. To cite one real-world example, when Delta Air Lines Flight 1086 veered off a runway at New Yorks LaGuardia Airport in 2015, evacuation took five minutes rather than 90 secondsthat's 333 percent longer than the FAA mandate, according to a Department of Transportation report on the incident.

Despite troubling examples like this, the FAA has not actively conducted emergency evacuation testing since the 1990s, and subsequently, an entire generation of new airlines and new aircraft have been certified to lesser standards.

Less room for emergency procedures

As airlines increase fees for checked baggage, it prompts more passengers to bring bigger personal items. Naturally, these carry-ons are stored under the seat and chip away at already too-small legroom. Plus, more under-seat baggagecombined with other factors like ubiquitous charging cords and fuller airline cabinsall further complicate emergency plane evacuations.

Additionally, American fliers today are larger on average as seat dimensions continue to decrease. The result can be a painful experience for many travelers. In fact, according to a CBS News analysis of the FAA comments, more than 200 commenters used the word torture to describe flying in todays economy seats. "The current seats are too small for Americans of average size, myself included," wrote one commenter, according to CBS. I worry that this will significantly impact my ability to quickly evacuate the aircraft in case of emergency.

Lost value for travelers

The airline economy or coach seat has been losing value for decades now. Economy passengers dollars dont stretch as far as they used to when purchasing airfares, as theyre nickeled-and-dimed for space and other benefits. The industry often claims that airfares have fallen over the years, but the products theyre comparing are apples and oranges due to the degradation of seat sizes and many other services that currently incur fees like seat selection and snacks.

Inaccessible seats for travelers with disabilities

The smaller seat dimensions present specific access problems for 61 million Americans with disabilities: Less space makes it much more difficult to transfer from a wheelchair to an economy seat, for example. Smaller seats also pose medical hazards. They can induce clotting issues such as deep vein thrombosis, which has caused fatalities for airline passengers.

It's past time to act

As part of the FAA comment period, I recommended that the agency make three major changes in the interest of passenger health and safety:

Immediately impose a moratorium on the further shrinking of airline seats

Establish minimum standards of 32 inches in legroom pitch and 20 inches in width

Revamp its emergency evacuation testing standards (which have not been updated in decades) to reflect the seismic changes occurring in fuller airline cabins

The FAA cannot continue to delay action on such a life-threatening issue; it must issue a new ruling that will protect all air travelers. Additionally, the agency must realize it works for the flying public, not the airlines that would cram us into tighter and more dangerous seating configurations to boost their bottom lines. The agency needs to ignore flawed research and listen to safety and consumer experts, as well as the American public itself: Tight seats are more than just problematic, theyre downright dangerous.

Same reason every other hero doesn't help until after they're introduced in universe. It's best not to read too far into that stuff. It's not a perfect continuity

WandaVision shows her "origin" story but she didn't really take up a superhero persona in that show.

They'd better do a proper introduction, then. Otherwise the audience is going to be lost. I haven't the foggiest clue who Photon/Spectrum is... and the trailer didn't do a thing to clear it up.

I mean, just look at the Guardians of the Galaxy trailer for a comparison. Nobody (outside of real fans) knew who they were... and the trailer did wonders in describing them so the audience knew who the film was going to be about.

As much as people may celebrate their own weight loss, it is not always healthy.

A new study shows that weight loss in older adults is associated with early death and life-limiting conditions.

Weight gain, on the other hand, was not associated with mortality, according to the study published Monday in JAMA Network Open.

Medical professionals have known to be concerned when older people with health conditions lose weight but researchers have not fully understood the impact of weight change on healthy older adults, according to lead study author Dr. Monira Hussain, a clinical epidemiologist and senior research fellow in public health and preventative medicine at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia.

The study looked at nearly 17,000 adults at least 70 years old in Australia and more than 2,000 adults in the United States who were at least 65 years old. Everyone who participated in the study was weighed at their annual checkup between 2010 and 2014, according to the study.

Our study found that even a 5% weight loss increases mortality risk, particularly in older men, Hussain said.

Weight gain in healthy older people, on the other hand, showed no association, she added.

The association was found across starting weights, meaning people who are medically classified as obese also were at an increased risk when losing weight, said Perri Halperin, the clinical nutrition director for the Mount Sinai Health System. Halperin was not involved in the study.

Other health issues

The study was able to account for health issues at the start. It excluded people who had conditions like cardiovascular disease, dementia, physical disabilities or chronic illness, Hussain said.

It also excluded those with recent hospitalizations, which is important because hospitalization is often followed by weight loss due to acute conditions, Halperin said in an email.

But the study wasnt able to distinguish if people involved lost weight intentionally or unintentionally, Hussain added.

No questions were asked about changes in activity level and diet quality between the baseline study visit and subsequent study visits, so we do not have any information on how those factors may have impacted the results, Haperin said.

Why weight loss can be a risk

Weight loss may be a risk factor for mortality because it can signal underlying issues.

Weight loss may be a warning sign for conditions like cancer and dementia, and it is often linked to reduced appetite influenced by inflammation and hormones, Hussain said.

Underlying chronic health conditions can also trigger weight loss in older adults by impacting appetite, metabolism and eating habits, Halperin said. Mobility issues and medication side effects can also affect weight.

Changes in weight can also signal concerns in lifestyle, Halperin said.

A major contributing factor to weight loss in older adults is social isolation. Other concerns include financial constraints and pain and discomfort, she added.

In studies like these, remembering that correlation is not causation is important, Halperin said. Weight loss was associated with mortality, which means its correlated but that doesnt mean the weight loss caused a persons death.

Its also important to say that the opposite cannot be extrapolated nor recommended ie gaining weight would not necessarily decrease your mortality risk, she said in an email. As always, discuss your weight changes with your doctor or other medical professional.

The takeaway is for older adults to monitor their weight change, Halperin said.

If they notice a decrease in the number on the scale (weight loss) or perhaps pants that were once snug fitting looser (decreased waist circumference), she added, bring it up with their doctor for possible further screening or testing.

But the advice also goes for the medical community, she said. Doctors and health care providers need to know that changes in weight require further investigation.

That's Monica Rambeau, who was a child in the first film. Which I'm sure will be explained in the film for those who missed WandaVision.

Your other questions will also be answered in the movie. That station may actually be a ship or not in Earth's orbit or any other number of things.

That's nice, but she's got a superhero costume. So... what superhero is she? The trailer makes it seem like we should already know.

People who avoided Ms Marvel are going to be confused by how this story starts

The very last scene of the season finale was basically a cliffhanger leading into this movie

I'm confused by it. Beyond Ms. Marvel and Captain Marvel, who is the third person?

And why is there a giant space station in orbit? That would have been really helpful in the last Avengers movie to deal with Thanos's ship.

And who're these "bad guys" in the film?

Pepperoni calzones, double-bacon cheeseburgers, fried chicken.

Twinkies and ho-hos for dessert. (Deep-fried if available.)

And Mountain Dew for your drink.

Also, a double mocha-frappacino with whipped cream for your coffee. (3x daily)

And don't skimp on the fatback for breakfast! (fried, of course!)

With that diet, you'll be an overweight 360-lb man with chronic heart disease in no time at all!

This is how to add weight.

For a $5 tip, I will say yes or no. A $10 tip gets you one sentence.

$20 gets you two sentences.
