i bought 2 tix to a band just because i really wanted to go

invited 10 of the hotter girls i've been trying to get out (some are online so haven't met them yet)

so far 2 have confirmed they'll come:

girl 1: priority because i've met her and know shes hot. tried to get her out before but she would stop replying whenever i did
girl 2: met online, flaked on me once so far and is one standard deviation hotter than the other girls on the website (but pics can be deceiving). she's the backup for obvious reasons

since both girls are extremely flaky I'm just gonna wait until like an hour before to cancel on girl 2 if girl 1 doesn't show up

if more girls confirm i'll keep playing the game and lining up back ups in order of preference

the tix were over 500 each so a lot of potential downside if i choose the wrong girl...

Compensation includes yearly raises for base salary.. if you are in an enterprise company HR will be all over this with a Performance Management Process.

Also bonuses .. eg: Christmas or year-end. If the employee is selling things they may benefit from a percentage of sales as compensation.

Can compensate other ways too with free words of praise at timely intervals.. fitness plan or credits for dental, etc.

Always recommend listening to their needs too.. upgrading equipment (phones, computers, infrastructure, etc) is very important as long as a budget exists for this (if not make one).

But yes best if you can be as hands off as possible. Remove blockers, care about employees, and set them up to succeed.

I have a few different roles for different organizations.

For one where I manage other people I try to just compensate good employees and give them the freedom to do good work.

In my opinion the measure of being a successful manager is that you should be able to walk away from it (eg: a week) and it functions at the same level in your absence.

What do you mean by compensate?

And yes its the fine line between supervising and giving autonomy

Im good at the management skills, but Im not sure I have the technical skills to supervise that type of engineering work at that level

At my old workplace we never needed to check in when working from home except once at the start of each week

So at my new place, my boss asked me to check in daily with an email each morning i am working from home

I thought it was super weird at first but oh well it's not an insane ask

So I wrote a script that would automatically send him an email

He would usually reply to these emails with "thanks"

But then if I started adding any text to the emails he would never reply

In one email I told him my plans to attend a certain meeting

And he just replied "thanks" and then later sent me another email asking if I was going to attend that meeting I explicitly told him I was going to attend

Then today I asked if we could reschedule our staff meeting because I had a conflict and all I got was a "thanks"

I had to message him closer to the meeting time to ask again and he said "oh are you attending that other event?"

Like he didn't even read my morning emails lol. Yeah he's definitely running a script too

tl;dr

I got annoyed my boss asked me to email him every morning so I wrote a script, he wrote a script to reply to my email
