Speaking of, it amuses me that every alcohol in the game seems to be referred to as "wine", even when the concoction is clearly anything but. Is that just a poor translation thing?

Yeah, RoW was a lot of setup for it's climax and for book 5, but it was oh so good. I also ADORED Navani and Raboniel throughout

Hard disagree, Oathbringer for me was the best of them and RoW is slower but still amazing

Battle system wise it's great. The story is probably the worst of the trilogy(imo), and timeskip Hope is the closest I'll get to calling Hope cool. I'm pretty sure the soundtrack was great but the first and third games were more memorable in the department for me.

I replayed it last summer (got it on steam, originally played it on PS3 or 360, can't remember which).

I love the monster recruitment and customization systems. It can be kind of involved but is pretty accessable. Could never finish the ultimate arena fight against the dlc boss.

I remember getting omega as a preorder bonus and wanting it to work so badly but it just isnt good for your team. Too slow.

I like time travel stories but this one is kind of whatever. It's more about the paradoxes than fixing the future. Serah is probably my favorite character from the ffxiii trilogy (though Sahz and Vannile are close).

I wouldn't say it does or doesn't justify it. I don't know if he says something similar in the show but in the game Joel's simple reason is if he left them/Marlene alive, they'd just go right back to trying to get Ellie. I believe he's right--the Fireflies believe in the chance of that cure, believe that their choice was the right one, and they wouldn't sit back and go back to ignoring the fact that Ellie is out there chilling. For me who thinks killing her is wrong on a personal and moral level, I don't blame him for being thorough.

The second half is vastly superior and way more complicated than Ellie's half.
