This is a case where she's overstating, but I can still believe that she got pushback that male leads are better. Nobody had put a woman in the lead role in an action film? That's obviously nonsense. Was she told people identify better with a man as the lead? I believe her that she did despite the earlier part. There's been a serious pushback against women in action roles, all the superhero films with women in them are getting heat online from weirdos all over the place.
