Samuel Johnson opposed "self-professed patriots" in general but valued what he considered "true" self-professed patriotism. It's a bit like the quote "Sarcasm is the lowest form of Wit" by Oscar Wilde, the full quote is "Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, but the highest form of intelligence." |
