The line was not, as is widely believed, about patriotism in general but rather what Samuel Johnson saw as the false use of the term "patriotism" by William Pitt, 1st Earl of Chatham (the patriot minister) and his supporters. Samuel Johnson opposed "self-professed patriots" in general but valued what he considered "true" self-professed patriotism.

It's a bit like the quote "Sarcasm is the lowest form of Wit" by Oscar Wilde, the full quote is "Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, but the highest form of intelligence."

You're all wrong. It's about a guy discovering his girlfriend was cheating on him:

Brandon Flowers wrote the lyrics to Mr Brightside at the end of his first serious relationship, when he was about 19 or 20.
Speaking to Q Magazine in 2009, he recalled how he had discovered his girlfriend was cheating on him in a pub in his hometown of Las Vegas.
"I was asleep and I knew something was wrong," he said. "I have these instincts. I went to the Crown and Anchor and my girlfriend was there with another guy." -- https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-56601090

Japan (By Law, these are minimums):

China -- the following is by Government Mandate (again, minimums):
Work Tenure:
Less than one year --- No leave
1-10 years --- 5 days leave
10-20 years --- 10 days leave
Over 20 years --- 15 days leave

America:
There are no state or federal laws that require employers to give workers any time off for holidays.

Hmm.... I wonder... Which country has it worse. I'd say America is definitely up there, though.

No Paid Holidays guaranteed at all by federal law, that's really, really bad....

It's an alternative world, where Aeroplanes are in common use -- For example, when Mr. Edwards first shows up in Walnut Grove, he goes to the mill to meet Charles and Almanzo. A jet contrail is clearly visible in the sky in the background, and in the episode "Meet Me at the Fair," on a hot air balloon they have FAA-regulated numbers (N4011A), a system that didn't come into play until the 1940s (because it's administrated by the Federal Aviation Administration, which only happened after planes).
