Anyway all this time on my 3DS made me update and check in on Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Man, I really loved that game and playing it with people on here. One of my villagers said it had been 9 years since I'd seen them. Holy crap. Amazingly someone from my friend list was actually playing at the same time. Is there still a player base for that one?

Aura-Aura Climber (DS)

A $2 DSiWare title from 2010, a first-party Nintendo game that came up on a recommendation video, and one of my final last-minute eShop purchases. For $2 you can't go wrong. It was fun but short - only 10 levels, and 10 short levels at that. The game is meant to be beaten in less than an hour. I WAS surprised by how frustratingly difficult the last few levels were. A couple of really horseshit spots. It was a fun little distraction for the night.

There was no way this was ever gonna happen. This has only happened twice in Survivor history - the Outcast two-parter in Pearl Islands, and the penultimate episode/finale in Exile Island. No way would it happen on just a random-ass episode.

Honestly, I think a lot of this is kinda "you had to be there." You haven't been watching for a long time and have only seen a handful of seasons, and are missing out on some of the best ones. For those of us that have been around since the beginning (at this point I say if you were watching by, say, Palau you were there "at the beginning") the feeling is really different.

I mean, if you want the novelty of bringing Pokemon all the way from GBA to Switch (which I also love), then yeah that sucks. But if it's just a matter of having everything, they've done such a damn good job of maintaining the availability of every Pokemon at this point, I have to wonder, is there any Pokemon anymore that still HAS to be transferred from Gen V or prior, or is everything available to some capacity in 6 through 9?

Yep, I remember the reveal of Nintendog in the very first trailer. It was obviously not a fighter but when asked, all Sakurai said was that it was a new kind of item and left it vaguely at that. It wasn't until almost a month into Dojo updates, which began a year after the trailer, that ATs were revealed.

I love this series but I got this code from backing their Kickstarter and ended up getting the retail version anyway. I planned on giving this away in the past few days but never got around to it, and when codes were disabled early I figured it had gone to waste. Glad that isn't the case and now it's someone's. PCs get new hardware literally constantly so it's always a bit funny to me to see people get mad about the prospect of iterative hardware in the console market. If you don't feel like you need the power then it shouldn't be an issue - devs getting the limits removed from them is only a good thing and it's an actual nightmare how long console lifecycles are getting. I'd gladly take four PS5 releases before the PS6 if it meant technology was constantly improving. It's an extreme case but just look how miserable the Switch is right now and how much people are dying for a Switch Pro that can actually run these games.

To me a PC is like a car in that it's a purchase you expect to make every 5-10 years and the timing is usually out of necessity, when your current one is either so obsolete that you can't do what you need it for anymore, or has become incredibly slow, expensive to maintain, or stops working completely. You know that next year's model is going to be slightly better but if it REALLY bothers you you can usually have some upgrades done to your current one.

When a company puts out a console you expect it to be a one-time purchase for that console's lifetime. It's annoying when an upgraded model comes out halfway through the console's lifespan, particularly one that can play games the base model can't, and it kinda feels like a spit in the face when the majority of people who buy a console in the first 6-12 months and especially those who buy them at launch do so out of brand loyalty, as the system's library usually isn't impressive at that point (usually only one killer app if that, and a small handful of lesser titles and/or games that you can still get on the old console). It wouldn't annoy me that much if the option were available to just pay, like, $100 to install an upgrade to your base model, but that's not really feasible for something like a game console, so to have to buy a whole new unit of mostly the same console to have an up-to-date experience is a trend that I'm not liking. I'd rather the console makers wait until they can put out the full system all at once than give us, like, half a system for two or three years.

Okay for a minute I didn't know what the issue was. Then I realized that you can still get the game but you could've gotten the DLC yesterday but now you can't.

Fuck that sucks dude. At least you can get the game but I guess Nintendo can't fix everything. It's shocking to me how badly they bungled the shutdown of their own digital storefront.

Excellent. I KINDA thought maybe they might do something like that but I wasn't exactly holding my breath. Because I ended up acquiring a few download codes for cross-platform content while I was doing my last-minute shopping and was like, "Well, this is pointless."

I think 41 and 42 are both upper-half seasons, with 42 being pretty close to top 10.

There are a lot of seasons that do a good job establishing the cast and characters early on. Pearl Islands, China, Philippines, Exile Island, David vs. Goliath, Gabon, Amazon, Cagayan, these are just the ones that come to mind immediately because they are all among my top 10 seasons and are mostly driven by their character development that began from episode 1, with people just playing the game naturally with the occasional curveball thrown in by the producers just to keep things interesting and make the season unique (because these twists often WERE one-time things). Heck, as bad a rap as it gets, even Nicaragua establishes who we're supposed to love, hate, and love to hate in the first few episodes. There are also other ways to keep seasons interesting. I remember back when seasons tended to have "themes" and I don't mean "Brains vs. Brawn vs. Beauty," but some running theme that set pieces, challenges, rewards, and the occasional one-episode twist all related back to. Pearl Islands had a pirate theme, Palau had a WWII theme, Guatemala had a Mayan theme, etc. Obviously this is more difficult to do differently each year with everything shot in one location for nearly a decade now but probably still doable. If anything, all these advantages make a season LESS memorable because they just tend to blur together. Case in point - I already forgot about an advantage that existed THIS SEASON. Bottom line is, you can keep the show interesting without a million twists and advantages by casting personalities worth watching, focusing on developing those personalities, and once or twice a season throwing in something to spice it up.

And one last thing, I highly recommend you remove the term "sperg" from your vocabulary.

Was probably something like, whoever was supposed to switch it over to free at the time of the closure was on the shitter.

By the way, there are currently two free themes available from the theme shop, and what's interesting is that they were apparently paid themes prior to the shutdown so it seems to be deliberate.

Looked super familiar from the start but I needed the console to put my finger on it.

Welp, I bought so many Goddamn games I figured I may as well get cracking. Starting with Pushmo. Oh my God, how did I skip this series all these years? It's so much fun, so addicting, and so simple yet I can see the puzzles having the potential to get so complex. I smile every time I solve a level. Such a cute little thing. And it's first party Nintendo and from what I understand, decently popular, so now that it's currently unavailable, I could definitely see them repackaging these as a bundle for Switch.

Pro consoles punish early adopters.
