I think that impact occurred before he even got the deal with Adidas and started the Yeezy shoe brand. Back in the late 00s and throughout the 2010s he was responsible for the resurgence and popularity of retro Jordans which created the toxic hypebeast culture we have today. I can remember Nike wasn't pumping out retro Jordans back in the 2000s for a while and where releasing a lot fusions and team Jordan's that people hated. That's when you would always see Kanye with a fresh pair of Jordan 1s or 6s on. It wasn't until like 2010 Nike started releasing retro Jordans again like crazy and the hypebeast culture formed from that. Another thing I enjoyed about the Adidas Yeezy brand is that they really weren't that hard to get compared to Jordans and even after release on aftermarkets the price increase was very minimal so they where very accessible which is what he said he wanted anyway. So I can't say I agree he was negative to the culture. --- buss on life |
