I'm not american, but from what I see on here and other forums, there was a Suprem Court ruling that allowed essentially endless campaign donations from corporations to politicians, and they've been essentially controlling what gets passed as laws ever since.

Americans please correct me if I'm wrong, but my outsider perspective is basically that

Hillary (and her PACs) actually raised and spent a lot more money than Trump. If it was legal to buy votes things probably would have been better. I am not saying all the money spent on campaigns is actually a good thing, but it's not really the cause of the problem. Trump didn't even get more votes than Hillary. That seems like a much more immediate cause to me.

I have played a lot of TRPGs and the edition does matter to a degree but I think D&D typically has pretty bad combat. A lot of this is due to the D20 tradition. If you roll a single D20 you have a 5% chance of rolling a 1 or a 20. That's pretty wild and can result in some randomness and depending on the edition there is little to nothing you can do to mitigate this. If you have a dice pool system (rolling a bunch of D6 for example) the distribution of results stops being linear (you are more likely to roll an average number than the maximum or minimum). A percentage system puts critical failure or success at 1% (usually rolling a 1 versus rolling a 100). Most other systems also have quite a few options to mitigate bad rolls (again though this depends on the edition of D&D you are playing). I think D&D is sort of stuck with the D20 though, so that part can't really he fixed.

Though there are definitely systems with worse combat than any edition of D&D, it's not just a matter of a D20 system.

Mongolia

It only exists because the USSR used it as a buffer state against China (the USSR and China were enemies for most of the Cold War and often ended up on opposite sides of regional conflicts as well as having a brief border war). China has claimed Mongolia as ancient Chinese territory and will most certainly move to annex them once it becomes convenient. There isn't really much the US and friends will be able to do about it, because the only thing preventing annexation currently is Russia and Armenia has shown Russia can't or won't come to their allies defense anymore.

China and Russia seem to want everyone around them to ally with the West. They try as hard as they can go convince everyone that it's their only option to be safe. It's amazing how the US can do so many stupid things (Iraq, Trump, spying on allies, etc.) and their geopolitical opponents seem to stumble over themselves to try to convince everyone around them the US is still their best option. The Philippines asking the US to come back and make military bases there again should have been a wake-up call, but apparently not. They are also trying as hard as they can to piss off Vietnam right now. I wonder how that will work out for them.

Super interesting poll result. From my perspective it seems quite obvious that (in general) women have simpler, easier lives. The more interesting question is, on the whole, which is happier (if this is even quantifiable somehow)?

There have been studies on that yeah, they generally find women are happier and tend to report more happiness in less equal societies. It's a bit of a paradox. But there is some nuance:
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0167268122000129

Basically women and men aren't using the same criterion in their evaluations.

The Russian pro-war propaganda? The US literally keeps making Ukraine promise not to attack Russia in exchange for weapons. Let me know when these actual attacks on Russia from the West or even with Western weapons happen, because the actual attacks on Ukraine are happening right now.

The US and West doesn't want war with Russia because it could be bad for their economies and waste resources they're trying to devote to containing China. You're imagining some fake scenario where the West wants to go to war with Russia. If they wanted that they could have done it, but it's bad for business, half of them had to be dragged kicking and screaming to even do sanctions, many things still aren't sanctioned, and even some NATO countries won't do sanctions at all.

You're pro war once you stop the critical thinking.

It's not really a hard concept.

And yes. People lost their damn minds over Ukraine.

Send them weapons, support. Whatever.

But I will never forget when people were unironically calling to invade Russia when the anti-air missles accidentally hit Poland.

It just showed who the real loonies are.

Honestly it is a hard concept because you're calling all kinds of people "pro-war" who simply support Ukraine defending itself because of some hypothetical attack on Russia instead of the reality of daily attacks by Russia on Ukranian civilians.

They don't want Americans for these jobs. They want people they can underpay and use threat of deportation to prevent any complaints about working conditions or fairness. They want the most exploitable employees possible. And the solutions proposed are let them exploit them (Democrat solution), nothing (Republican solution). Neither of those is really a good option, but no one seems to care. Ideally you would provide work visas for whoever wanted them and have good working conditions, living wages and labor laws enforced for all employees. But that's a pipe dream it seems.

Except a lot of people legitimately support Russia. And the I don't like Russia, I just don't want Ukraine to fight back crowd that claims to be pacifist comes across as useful idiots at best.

And as someone who opposed Iraq and took part in anti-war protests I can honestly say no one ever called me a Saddam supporter, so no I don't remember that. I remember a lot of you don't support the troops, not a real patriot, if you don't like it then leave (hey I did leave, so congrats!), etc.

It was awkward for me because I didn't like religion but I didn't agree with the anti-Islamic bigotry that was becoming widespread or the pro-war insanity. I felt like I couldn't really express my opinions. Then Iraq happened and it was suddenly cool not to be a nationalist Islamophobe, but then after Obama was elected no one cared anymore.

I left the US for one of the least religious countries in the world, and definitely 9/11 was a catalyst for that, but I can't say it was religion, much more so nationalism and general bigotry.

Japan and a lot of Asia are harsh on drugs, because they've seen the effect of smuggled Opium, that were literally run by the West in order to try and weaken their civilization, and cause a trade deficit.

When they tried to remedy this through force, the West beat them (Opium Wars), and then made them sign an unequal treaty.
So, their only remedy was to be harsh on drug smuggling done by their own people, to try and balance it out (as at the time, any Westerners could only be tried by Westerners and not the host country).

Not only are Japan and China different countries, but Japan was part of the coalition that fought China in the opium wars and made them sign unequal treaties and took territory from them.
