"Hate" is a bit too strong, but I'm definitely getting tired of it. Especially in the Floridian summer; there are times when operating a push mower for an hour in Florida feels just as draining as sitting on zero-turn mower for 4 hours in Ohio.

I used to love feature-length comedies as a kid and young adult, but they really fell off hard for me after the first Anchorman. Talladega Nights, Wedding Crashers, Superbad, Step Brothers...didn't care for any of them. Walk Hard was the lone exception, I liked that one.

The only feature-length comedies I've genuinely loved since then - Hot Fuzz, Deadpool, The Nice Guys - drift closer to action-comedy than just straight comedy.

Why would you want to talk to NPCs tho?
In Oblivion they only have two topics each and in Skyrim do you get to the cloud district very often?

It's a pretty noteworthy step up in design from Morrowind to Oblivion that every single one of the hundreds of townsfolk and other minor NPCs in Cyrodiil - even those that serve no gameplay purpose whatsoever - has a unique line of dialogue to briefly describe their life, role in the city, or simply crack a joke about Khajiit cooking.

And you're half-right in that Skyrim is a bit of a step down from Oblivion's dialogue design. Bethesda took the memes about mudcrab conversations to heart (too much so, imo) and gave certain NPCs fixed dialogue instead; ideally a step-up, but it's rare to encounter the majority of the fixed NPC encounters, and you'll end up getting just as sick of the Windhelm blacksmith bitching to his apprentice about his lost hammer as you ever did with mudcrab conversations. And while most townsfolk now actually have several unique lines of dialogue apiece, some genius set them to always play in a fixed order rather than randomly; so while Nazeem has lines other than the Cloud District one, it's probably the only one you'll ever hear unless you go out of your way to spam the action button over him.

Honestly, the 'modern three' have enough high points and flaws between them that I can't definitively pick a best one.

Morrowind's high points are lore and worldbuilding creativity, things that still held up for someone playing it for the first time in 2019; and those qualities are good enough that I fell in love with the game, and have been instilled with a perpetual desire to replay it. But the combat is a janky chore, the stats are overworked (there's no good reason why fatigue needs three different attributes governing it), and the game is virtually dialogue-free; there's monologues, sure, mountains and mountains of expository monologues dumped on the player, but precious little in the way of genuine dialogue or memorable characterization. I remember people praising Neloth's appearance in Skyrim as the triumphant return of some great memorable character, but when I finally encountered him in Morrowind I had to ask if we had all played the same game.

Oblivion gets shit on for repetitive conversations about mudcrabs, but it does add a much-needed sense of dialogue to the worldspace, making it feel more alive and interactive. It also has some of the best-written quests out of the 'modern three,' and the subtle horror undertone that lurks behind nearly every facet of Cyrodiil's pristine veneer gives the game a very unique and memorable atmosphere. It also has the single best DLC out of the three (though to be fair I still haven't gotten around to Tribunal and Bloodmoon). But Cyrodiil's landscape (while pretty) is very one-note compared to the other three, the minigames are a chore (particularly the speech wheel), and the leveling bring over Morrowind's worst counter-intuitive qualities while simultaneously stripping out fun weapons / skills and making it even grindier at times (capping skill training per level was a big misstep).

Skyrim's worldspace is probably its biggest selling point - the overworld wilderness is considerably more well-designed than the others, with memorable landmarks, more biome diversity, and a focus on vertical design that handily puts it over the other two worldspaces. Dungeons are generally more unique and well-designed as well, with convenient looping layouts and self-contained stories and unique enemy dialogue. I'm also of the mind that Skyrim's streamlining of the leveling system was not a bad thing; as much as I might appreciate the greater nuance of the previous game's systems, I much more appreciate not having to micromanage my skill usage and / or actively avoid using my primary skills. Still, while I appreciate Skyrim's increased biome diversity, between the washed-out weather systems, the scraggly-ass trees, and the snot-colored moss hanging off cave walls (among other examples), the graphics are generally so butt-ugly that I simply can't play the game anymore without texture mods. Combat magic is weak and tedious as shit, and the removal of spellcrafting was a major blow to the sense of player customization that defined the series. And while the game has a few standout quests, the writing is a noteworthy step down over the previous games (the Thieve's Guild questline is Fallout 3 levels of bad writing in particular).

Its not that its not turn based, its just not what people think of when they think Final Fantasy. You dont even have party members for most of the game, the RPG elements are more toned down than ever, usually / writing wise it more resembles A Song of Ice and Fire / Game of Thrones than a FF story.

There is a segment of aging gamers who grew up in the 90s and prefer turn based combat, but were a minority.

Honestly, this is what killed my interest in seeking the game out. I'm pretty much over the ASoIaF / GoT style of political fantasy at this point, and even when I was hot for it it was the opposite of what I sought in a mainline FF game. I was never a big fan of FF's earlier attempts at political fantasy to begin with; didn't care all that much for FF Tactics' story (it was the gameplay that sold me hook, line, and sinker), and while I liked FF XII overall (not loved, liked), this aspect of its story dragged the game down and made it and every non-Balthier character involved stodgy and unrelatable.

Factoring politics out of it (a herculean and arguably pointless task, I know), it's the simple fact that seeing videos of the Twin Towers burning and people being crushed to death, burned to death, or leaping to their deaths plays on people's instinctual fears a lot more easily than hearing about a number going up on the news. Covid deaths do not have that visceral immediacy when it comes to instilling fear; most people simply can't comprehend how awful a prolonged Covid-related death can be unless they're going through it themselves, or have been bedside with a loved one who's died from something similar.

This. Aside from a ridiculous impeachment of Biden being a corrupt mockery of our system of government, it is going to backfire politically. The GOP cant win a national election without expanding the cult base. This will have the opposite effect.

Extreme republicans pushing this like MTG are morons. McCarthy is less of a moron (not by much) but is too weak to stop them.

I am now even less worried about Trump beating Biden.

I'm still genuinely flabbergasted by how Republicans have taken it upon themselves in the last year to co-opt some of the worst election-fumbling qualities that were previously stereotypical of Democrats, particularly self-defeating infighting and the ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Like, I knew the Trump cult was fated to devour itself on a long enough timeline, I just never imagined it would start happening this quickly.

In the late 90's / early 00's, cracking inappropriate blue jokes about teen actresses / pop stars was nearly as synonymous and pervasive as, say, using 'gay' as derogatory slang; it was incredibly fashionable for a time, a rare few realized from the outset that it was in poor taste, others slowly came to this realization themselves, and eventually it fell out of fashion.

You are correct, it's not a defense of a person's character to point this out, because it was bad behavior at the time, and it took some people longer than others to realize it. But at the same time, when someone digs it up in Current Year as an attack on their character, in terms of damning evidence it's about as compelling as revealing that they wore JNCO jeans in the 90's. The other evidence you mentioned is far more worth everyone's time to focus on.
