I bought Disco Elysium about a year ago, and I played a few hours of it, but man that game is slow. I guess the thorough nature is part of the appeal but it felt like I'd barely done anything.

I played Pokmon Blue in 1998 and I don't get why it blew up...! The series has had a strange journey where we spent our teenage years thinking it was a lame game for babies, and then it had a resurgence when people went back to it as adults (except for just me, it seems!).

I feel like I don't praise FFIX as much as I should because B8 overrates it to high heaven, but it's still a great game.

MGS1 is such a classic that FFVIII used Solid Snake's character arc for Squall...!

Investigation Team is perhaps the best playable cast in any RPG in terms of overall quality from top to bottom (and cast chemistry, of course). I love Inaba and how literally every single person in town has a character development journey you can follow over the course of the game.

Also it sounds like you've been listening exclusively to LtM when it comes to GAA. The second game is way better, but the first game is good, too. Very oddly structured though, which throws some people off.

Adult Ema is way better

Ema is symptomatic of another of 1-5's problems: It has perhaps the highest fail rate of its jokes of any case in the series, and her jokes in particular fall flat most of the time.

The first half of 1-5 is so utterly uninteresting, which makes the pacing problem that much more noticeable.

Once Marshall takes the stand, the case is great all the way to the end though.

To me, having characters who play off of each other well might be more important than having every character be fully fleshed out, which is why I'll still argue FFVIII has a good cast.

Games that do both well get bonus points though, like Mass Effect 3.

3-5's ending hits me like no other moment in the series, but I am also an unapologetic Phoenix/Iris shipper.

FFX is still an incredible experience for me. It's one of the few games in the series where battling doesn't feel like a chore, and that's a huge achievement, on top of a great story and a great cast featuring my favorite buzzword: Cast chemistry.

"Atmosphere" and "presentation" complete the buzzword medal stand for me, and they're a big reason I love P3 despite its obvious flaws.
