I'm shocked it got a sequel at all. The movie released two weeks after 9/11 and absolutely bombed in theaters. It was only the cult following it developed over the years that prevented the movie from just being a completely forgotten blip in cinema history.

I read some polls now and I just shake my head. I know that the GOP has waged a diabolical, decades long propaganda/lies campaign that has (very sadly) effectively brainwashed a sizable chunk of the country. I know the GOP is utterly corrupt and willing to lie about anything and engage in voter suppression to keep power. And I even know that Joe Biden is not the most inspiring candidate.

But at some point, the electorate in this country I love so much has to stop being so stupid and easily manipulated. Trump and MAGA have been so obviously corrupt and evil since day one. Anyone could see this coming in 2016, it is still obvious to see now, and the US electorate still votes with a collective head where the sun dont shine. It is ridiculous.

I mean, if we could get UBI and a good social safety net (health care etc.) guaranteed for all citizens, along with employees being free to unionize, then I think scrapping minimum wage and "letting the market decide" could work.

But as long as one side literally needs the job to survive and the other side can treat employees as an easily replaced, expendable resource, the idea that just letting them negotiate would lead to the best outcome for everyone is sheer lunacy.

It is definitely worse these days than in the past. If we let the owner class do as they please with no restraints the advantage taken will be unending.

I actually did ask for more and he said he couldn't increase the pay but he offered me 2 things. The ability to work hybrid as needed, and 1 extra week of PTO, plus 8 holidays off a year. EDIT: Also he said if I got covid he would still pay my salary and not force me to take PTO, something my old job never did.

My remote job gives me decent PTO but I get no holidays off and no time and a half on those holidays.

Considering you hate the new job, I'd go back. Not too often you get to undo a mistake.
