It isn't just why are we starting the tournament already, it's also why is the schedule so lopsided. Some teams had their first tournament games Nov 3rd. I don't know if the Magic are the latest tournament starter but our first tournament game is Nov 14th. Some of the teams who played today have played 3 tournament games by that point

The basketball gods saw that the Magic were healthy for a full 4 games and said absolutely fucking not.

3 injuries tonight to guys playing 25-30 mins a game (Fultz, Gary Harris, Wendell Carter Jr). WCJ will definitely be out a while as he broke a finger with 1.3 seconds of game time left.

Bought one of those mystery boxes today that has 5 random packs it with a chance of vintage. And now I'm skeptical that the packs are real as I got the Evolving Skies Rayquaza V Full Alternate Art from one of the packs and another rainbow rare VMAX from another of the packs.

I've only ever gotten 1 hit from an evolving skies pack before and I have opened a lot of them

Some of the packs that had no hits in had weird texture and just rough looking borders in general

I know I have some of the original set in my dad's loft back in England. I really should get them next time I go back home

I opened probably around 100 packs, maybe more and I ended up missing multiple commons. They must have had some weird ass batch issues

I have spent way more than I should on Pokemon cards in the last 1-2 months but with how values are right now, I feel comfortable in saying the 151 set is easily the set where I am comfortably up if I actually wanted to sell.

Every other set I'd have been better buying singles or selling the packs I had laying around (I had multiple boxes in my garage that were 3-5 years old)

I mean, teams can also get screwed by mid-season injuries if you go by regular season standings.

To me there's a big difference between a team losing a guy mid season and a team losing a guy for elimination series against what is statistically likely to be stronger opposition

To me the goal of the season is to crown the best team over the course of the entire year. Not the best current team at the end of the year.

I get why playoffs exist though. They are certainly more exciting and generate a fuck ton more money

In terms of crowning the fairest champion though, they suck

End of season standings providing enough games are played and there's some sort of parity in scheduling. I'm not American but have lived in the US for 11 years

Obviously it's not always an option due to schedules which is frequently the case in American football. But the concept of a team not being anywhere near the top in the regular season being champions is just bizarre to me. Or a team being dominant and then getting fucked by a late season injury.

It's the same with fantasy sports. You could just do a straight up most points scored like other countries do got fantasy sports but nope, gotta have the playoffs where the best team in the season frequently does not win the title due to a one off week in the final 2-3 weeks

Right. Madden 06 Franchise mode and we are in season 19 now so 23/24 is probably about right

As an Ohio State fan I find the whole thing pretty laughable to begin with.

I know what Michigan has done is illegal but the whole notion of a game plan being busted open by some dude recording from the stands with his cell phone is hilarious to me. Like don't make your signs that easy to steal and that easy to game plan against? I'm sure every big team is doing stuff just as illegal that is beneficial to winning too.

He went in on Franz Wagner and Banchero basically saying how can those guys be top 50 players (I think they were like 30/53 in the list) when the Magic aren't a playoff team. 2 top 50 players should get you to the playoffs.

For starters there's 30 teams and 20 get in so theoretically the 20th team in the league would be 20/50 in those rankings for their best 2 players. But it actually gets way worse for him.

Pat Bev was on 2 teams last season. The Lakers who are the only team in the league to have 2 players inside the top 10. They went 25-30 whilst Beverly was on the team.

He was also on the Bulls who have 2 players inside the top 50 and *gasp* missed the playoffs.

That whilst what Ja is doing is shitty, ESPN should instead be investing time in articles on the scumbag Miles Bridges who should have no place in the league.

Maybe they have but with the shit that has come out on Bridges I feel that's what they should really be driving home before giving Ja attention

The Magic's over / under this season is 36.5 last I checked. Last season they got 34 wins despite being absolutely fucked by injuries the first half of the season

I would still take the over if it had been set at 41.5. They were a .500 team from the point that Fultz got healthy last season and have theoretically gotten better through rookie contract development and roster turnover since.

It's lol preseason so obviously a pinch of salt needed but they outplayed both the Cavs and Pelicans starters in the preseason games so far. And having watched both games, both teams were definitely trying and not just coasting / experimenting due to it being preseason.

I put it in an edit but the Magic are also well positioned to go all in on a trade too.

Like say if a disgruntled star player becomes available. Pulling names out of my ass but say Doncic asks out (but it can be whoever). The Magic can offer

Multiple high lotto guys on rookie deals (Suggs, Anthony, Black, Howard)
Veterans (some with potential upside) / Salary filler (Fultz, Isaac, Harris)

Not many others can match that level of return (OKC and their gazillion picks comes to mind).

And then they could still go out and offer a max in FA.

Also the Magic basically have a bottomless pit of money to throw around if they want because their starting 3/4/5 are so cheap and are the long-term solution whilst they also have no money tied up elsewhere.

So even if you think their guards are worth nothing and you have to start over fresh at the position, they have both the money and assets to go get 2 max guys at the 1/2 via trade/FA if they wanted.

Edit: Like say star player X became available. The Magic can theoretically offer all their 1sts plus multiple lotto picks on rookie deals (Suggs, Anthony, Black, Howard) plus vets / salary filler (Fultz, Harris, Isaac). Which is going to be up there with what anyone else in the league can offer. And then they can still go out and get a max guy in FA too.

I'm obviously biased but I think the Magic are.

Even if you have no faith in the Magic guards (which as an outsider is fair, but I think guys will be surprised this season), the Magic have one of the best young wing combos in the league. The league is guard heavy but finding long, versatile, playmaking wings who can also defend is difficult. And the Magic have 2 of the best ones on their rookie contracts.

Almost time to see how atrocious some of my guys were! There's a few I suspect had a horrendous season

And of course almost time to say goodbye to my longest serving team member who I drafted in my very first draft. Least I am 99% certain Tufts will retire.

Well from what people posted on twitter apparently Miami just hasn't been kneeling out games all season. They have run it at the end of every game regardless of score.
