Amazing day. Agggghhhh.... Match two is a tough decision. Gravity Man is far more representative of the kind of music I like. Love all the chord changes, love the part with the half-step/octave movements. Gravity Beetle's short term excitement for me is hard to find... most other comparable music I don't like nearly as much. I love its tremendous energy... granted, that wouldn't mean much on its own, except the way those changing harmonies get highlighted through the melody's chromatic movement is super impactful for me. I'm happy with either winner, of course.

Ah, yes, my favorite X soundtrack is either the 4th or the 5th game, even if they have a few they I don't like. From MMX5, I would have also liked to see Opening Stage X, and a couple of other unused tracks (plus X vs. Zero and Duff McWhalen).

I'm feeling satisfied. I got twelve noms into the contest! Two of them were my own. I was a bit disappointed to see I was the only supporter of Star Force music, though. (I take it back about their soundtracks being top tier - but I still think they're excellent.) I'm especially happy that SSBU's Gravity and Dark Man stages made it. Primrose also defied the odds and went from a 1 (five days in) to qualifying for the bracket!! Mac even doubled my Gravity Beetle nom (thank you). I was expecting most of these to fall short, so I'm quite happy with this field.

ADDITION: I wanted to send a thought about the cutoff point for qualifying for the tournament (the bubble): it would be great if doubles were treated exactly the same as two unique noms. The reason for this is that we each only have one double, so I feel it really needs to count. It could be disappointing for many otherwise. Granted, this may not matter if we just do play-in matches.

Something to consider: could we be seeing a big rush of two-nom songs (in addition to those with one nom) being dropped before the deadline coming up shortly? (looking at sergio's comment) I don't plan on dropping anything with two or more noms, personally. Dropping the 2's within the next 14 hours basically means resigning yourself to the idea that the current standings are what the bracket is gonna be, and that nothing can be changed, aside from seeding. You would be transferring supports to stuff that are 3 or higher, which does nothing to change what's expected to qualify for the field (only 44 tracks have three noms or more). I hope people realize this.... Granted, if there's a surprise massive jump in activity during this period and we find ourselves with 100 songs that have 3+ supports, then at that point I guess there would be a reason to drop the 2's.

Alternatively, if the field size gets increased to 128, the worry about dropping 2's would be pretty much a non-issue no matter what. (not that I care whether it's 64 or 128)

MXCM, you counted DireKrow's Dark Man Stage and Blackheart Beat considerations as actual supports on post #136. They are not supports. (granted, DireKrow ended up supporting Dark Man Stage on post #153) But thanks for your hard work on that.

If we only do a field of 64, that would mean... hmmmm.....by the time we're all said and done, we'll probably hit approx. 256 songs, meaning only 1/4 of the contestants will qualify. I guess that's okay.

Uh oh, the PSX version of Gravity Beetle is trying to compete with the SNES version now. May the best version win! Truth be told, I prefer the SNES version for the first half of the track, and I prefer the PSX version for the second half of the track.

An important factor is that I don't usually support music that I think can qualify for the bracket without my help. That means I could end up supporting something way down at like #28, for example.

Sheep Man is a serious contender for favorite track in the entire regular main series... I like it even more than long-time favorites Dark Man and Gravity Man. It has that quirkiness that I wish was in more music. Oh, wow... I went through MMX5's soundtrack, but apparently I went through a playlist that didn't list the unused tracks. Duff Mcwhale beats anything else in that game, for sure. Love that dark, chill ambience...

Playing Mario Kart 64, I beat one of the record times mentioned in the Nintendo Power magazine while doing time trial on one of the courses. (Actually, a few of them) I thought I was one of the best players in the world as a result--in fact, I thought I might have THE world record on some of those courses. (I was pretty good, but nowhere near the level of some players)

As far as Holy Land, I like those other versions (in fact, I like them more than the vast majority of Mega Man Zero music), but the original has that perfect "fake" sound that I'm looking for. When I nominate something, it's often because it has a very particular sound design... and unfortunately it might not be what others want to hear. As for metalltool's cover-- it's good, but I honestly don't want to hear Gravity Beetle for eight minutes straight, unless it does something really complex or intricate. I also would not listen to the original on extension, but I sure do love listening to it for two loops! Again, nothing wrong with any of these versions of Gravity Beetle, as I like them more than the vast majority of MMX music.

I just can't bring myself to nominate the PS1 version of Gravity Beetle... I just wouldn't be happy seeing that version in the tournament. I mean, it sounds much nicer (I even used to prefer it), but the energy in the SNES version is far greater.

Isn't a big complaint about unofficial music being in this contest is seeing it beat official music? If that's the case, my proposal does not make things worse. But okay, maybe you and (possibly) everyone thinks that fangame music getting a "win" is such a terrible thing no matter what they beat? A better argument against my proposal is that wins from unofficial music (in such a case) will take away the chances of official music winning. e.g., if 1/4 of the bracket is music not from Mega Man games and they take 16 wins, only 48 wins will go to the latter, when they could have gotten much more than 48 if everything was mixed.

Oh, so you're not going to listen to anything unfamiliar during noms, despite a field size of 64/128, and you'll just nom/support your favorites?

Actually... maybe that's a good thing! Just stay away from the unfamiliar stuff and let the others decide what less popular stuff gets in!

I gotta admit I was disappointed when Mega Man was chosen rather than Pokemon. I was wanting to explore everything in the Mega Man series a few months back, and I was starting to get through much of the music. But I only got through the main series, the X games, and the Zero games, basically. This contest is going to kinda of spoil the rest of my exploration. And as I finish the exploration, I will inevitably find favorites in the series that I won't ever be able to nominate for a Mega Man contest again. Plus I probably wouldn't be able to qualify them for VGMC.

Maybe to make up for that, I'll just have to explore every Pokemon soundtrack in existence before the next Pokemon contest (if it even happens)! Actually, no, I don't think I will do that. I do think I will get to know all the music from every Kirby game at some point! I doubt there would ever be a Kirby music contest, though....

Looking forward to it! I kinda do want remixes found in games (like Smash Bros.), but I won't be crushed if they get banned. If a Smash Bros. remix won the whole tournament, or if multiple remixes from that game get far into the tournament, that could lead to some disappointed people. Similar situation with a romhack or a fan game song. Then again, I do think such games will greatly enrich the bracket, so I wouldn't be a fan of disallowing all of that.

That leads to an idea: put all songs NOT from official Mega Man games into their OWN section in the bracket?

Edit: maybe you could run some polls on discord to settle some matters?
