140. My Friend Pedro
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3Efaiu6gBA

My Friend Pedro is one of the more disappointing entries on the list, only because my expectations for it were especially high. It's no secret that Devolver Digital makes good shit, and man this game looked slick. And gameplay wise, it is pretty slick and definitely very fun to play when it goes well. It's kind of a tossup though if it actually goes the way you intend to though. It's a game where the fun comes from looking like a ridiculous Matrix-esque badass, but it's not exactly badass to slow motion crash onto your face directly in front of the enemy you're diving at. But the big downside is the level design, because until you get to the goofy, over-the-top levels toward the end, you're stuck in exciting locales like "the sewers" and "old town".

139. The Cave
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5br6aYHmqU

The Cave is a very flawed game in some of its execution, but its concept is top tier. You play as a selection of 7 characters which you know nothing about beyond their archetype name, like "the knight" or "the twins" or "the hillbilly." Each character has a unique ability, and when you play as them, you gain access to special levels dedicated to their stories, where they have to relive experiences from their lives, revealing that they all did terrible, terrible things in their lives and now they are essentially stuck in purgatory, some of the worst ones being the hillbilly, who burned down an entire carnival and everyone in it after getting rejected by a girl and the time traveler who went back in time to the prehistoric era to kill her rival's entire family line

142. Pony Island
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vLzSh1UKgs

Half of the time I think this game is a fever dream I had. It was one of Daniel Mullins' (maker of Inscryption) first games to get a real following, and is essentially you're being held captive and being forced to play an extremely simple cutesy game called Pony Island by a corrupeted demonic entity in the computer that I think was Satan and you have to escape by finding hacks and workarounds in the computer to beat the Pony Island game? I want to go back and play this one again because it was definitely confusing (intentionally) the first time around

141. Sportsfriends
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zh5EXf4rpo

I got this as a free game on PS+ years back and kept it on my PS4 for years because it was a lot of fun for having people over that basically anyone could pick up and play. It's a collection of 4 mini-games. I never played Johann Sebastian Joust (as it required PS Move, which I never bought) and I never played much Hokra, but I've played a LOT of the other two over the years. BaraBariBall is a game where you're trying to punch a ball into the opponent's half of the arena, with only a single small platform and tons of air tech to try and avoid falling to your death. Super Pole Riders is by far the one I played the most and is basically a game where each person is a pole vaulter, and you have to use the poles to simultaneously navigate the arena, attack the other players, and push the ball along a string to score on your opponent. It's an extremely simple concept that has a surprising amount of strategy. The games are extremely simple but also extremely replayable.

Yeah I definitely think it was quick, and I think that's mostly a symptom of the 8- episode season. I feel like one more would've been helpful

we definitely had time to see Cate flip, so he transition into violent desperation was more believable, but there was nothing to suggest Sam would turn on Emma like that and in particular be so cruel about it

Haven't watched the last two episodes yet.

It's a good show but it lacks good characters. I could maybe take it over The Boys S2 but it's light years behind Seasons 3 and 1.
I'd disagree with this, I think most of the cast is pretty great, although Marie and Andre can be a little dull at times, and I don't care for Sam's turn at the end.

I don't know where I rank it compared to The Boys, but I think it's mostly on par

144. Cibele
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QyZagctAOU

Oh hey it's another cute(ish) romantic-themed game cutting between real life and the game world. It follows two young people slowly forming a romantic relationship after meeting in an MMO, cutting between the MMO gameplay (which is ok, and the game itself would be better if the MMO was better imo), gameplay of you navigating Nina's computer which is, of course, extremely early 2000s, and live-action scenes of Nina as she gets progressively more invested in the relationship. This all builds up to them flirting and eventually meeting in person, only for it to reveal the guy was basically using her for sex. It's a game more built around aesthetics and story than the gameplay, which is mostly fine given the story it's trying to tell.

143. Everybodys Gone to the Rapture
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1tBl7upgDU

There are going to be quite a few of these first-person exploration games (insulting known as walking simulators, a term I've never really cared for). That being said, it's not the least accurate term to explain Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, a game whose entire concept is "every other living thing is gone and you need to figure out why." The reasoning why is interesting and the unfolding of the backstory through the memories of the two scientists investigating it is compelling, even if it unfolds slower and with less player interaction than I would've liked.

I played Monument Valley and liked it (list spoilers whoops). I played Monument Valley 2 and also liked it but less than Monument Valley 1.

146. Bastion
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TptJHeWngJs

This is the one I was dreading dropping, because I know Board 8 is pretty big on it as indie games go, and believe me, I get it. Again, this falls victim to me not playing games much on Steam, though I also had mixed feelings on the gameplay itself. I only ended up getting around an hour into Bastion, but I did really enjoy what I got through, 95% because of Rucks. Seriously, top tier narration to the point that while many details of the game have faded, Rucks is endlessly memorable. I do someday want to go back and play this one again, because I feel like I'd get a lot more out of it now than I did then. Future list hint: There is exactly 1 other Supergiant Games entry on this list, and that one I did finish.

145. Dungeons & Lesbians
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4lTTY2JgEk

I will be very surprised if anyone here has even heard of this game, much less played it. I got it as part of the Itch.io Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality they put out a few years back (a bundle I unfortunately didn't play much of because, again, not a big PC gamer. But the title and art style was enough to draw me in. It's a short, around 1-1.5 hour visual novel about a group of lesbian friends playing D&D, cutting between them as players and as characters. It's extremely cute and a fun time for how small it is.

"Yeah I finished (almost) all of these games and enjoyed them for what they were but not much more than that" Tier

150. The Binding of Isaac
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27Le3kOOFQk

Very unpopular opinion, but I didn't really get into The Binding of Issac. Thematically, it's fantastic. Creepy, Biblically-horrifying shit shown through the perspective of a tiny child who attacks by crying at his enemies. Gameplay-wise, it's not my thing. Roguelike procedurally-generated dungeon crawler has to lan pretty close to the very bottom in terms of game genres I care for (with a select few exceptions we'll get to later).

149. Coffee Talk
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WA1lEU_zTCw

I really expected to like this one more than I did. I mean, it's story-based, sad, full of weird monsters being treated like people in the Bojack Horseman way, and very gay. I just wish there was more interactivity here. The only "gameplay" is making drinks, which is pretty simple, and clicking to move forward text boxes. It's like a visual novel with less anime girls. I do like the story and all the characters though.

148. If On a Winter's Night, Four Travelers
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCT-aMqrINg

This is the newest indie game I've played. I'm realizing as I write these that a lot of the games in this zone are ones where the gameplay didn't click with me much even though I enjoyed the story. IOAWN,FT is extremely dark and brutal and depressing despite being ultimately <2 hours long. It's a story of a few people on a train (implied to be going to the afterlife) telling their last memories before dying. They're all fucking sad and get progressively darker and more twisted. It's also free! Unfortunately, it suffers from just how indie it is. It's difficult to even open through Steam half the time, and has the slowest walking sped of literally any game I've ever played, which makes simple point and click tasks a pain to figure out because backtracking is painful. I swear this game would've gone up 20 spots if it just tripled the walking speed.

finished another indie game, so everything below it is moving down one spot

152. Pizza Tower*
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wlq6fFOqI28

Just putting an asterisk next to this one because 1. I'm really not very far in it and 2. I know for a fact it would place much higher if it was available on console, because my shitty laptop is not doing it justice. It's funny and wacky and fun to play, but as much as I like it I really don't like playing it in this format.

151. Rime
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=biPr3V7-IXI

I don't really remember why I stopped playing this? Rime is pensive and cute and mystical and a little mind-bendy in its puzzles at time. It's everything I typically look for in an indie game, and yet for some reason I dropped it somewhere along the way. Maybe it was an irl distraction? I can't remember what, but Rime lands quite near the top of the list of games I want to go back to eventually.

Yeah I get that. With Battleblock it's the combination of both the limited playtime and how distant my memory of it is. I'm sure if I rebought it now it'd do better, although I wouldn't expect it to place extremely high either way

There's one game in particular I never finished that I'm dreading ranking (I liked it enough that it escaped this tier even without me getting very far) because I know it'll be too low for B8

And yet it's higher than Battleblock??

Also Mark of the Ninja influenced practically every single indie game, every non-indie stealth, and a bunch of mobile games too. It was so influential it made itself seem run of the mill. They kinda did the same thing with Don't Starve.
A lot of the games in this range are suffering from me not playing them much or finishing them due to life situations or even just the way I was playing them. Some guys I mightve been playing on a crappy laptop in college instead of on a console how I mightve preferred. Most of these games aren't bad, they're just ones that I only got a partial experience of (though the fact that I never felt overly compelled to finish them doest help their case)

153. Skullgirls
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxLZEdDfR_g

I know there will be some pretty heavy disagreement with this one. Skullgirls never quite clicked with me. I love fighting games in general, but I'm pretty bad at them, so I need something to keep me drawn in beyond just the basic fighting. I love a good fighting game story mode. Unfortunately, I played Skullgirls before it got waves and waves of added content, and as much as I loved the art style and character designs, there wasn't much to hold me too it past that. It was fun for a bit and then I moved, and didn't get drawn in enough to go back later.

152. Mark of the Ninja
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rI_r-g4VnsY

Kinda surprised Mark of the Ninja doesn't get talked about much anymore. Is it because it's basically just Assasin's Creed Chronicles without the brand name? It's a legitimately solid stealth game with sleek visuals and violent assassinations that I can't really remember why I dropped. Might've just been the timing? This came out in, what, 2012? I was in college 11 years ago, yeesh. When did I get so old?

156. Tokyo Jungle
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zasefwWK5fA

I got really hooked on this one for a little bit. I love the concept of an abandoned Tokyo where humanity is gone and the animals have taken over. You start with I think like a rabbit and a Pomeranian and slowly work your way up the food chain, typically needing to defeat the next animal up as a carnivore or survive to a certain place as an herbivore (if I remember right). It was fun for a while, but unfortunately in trying to include so many animals, it got pretty repetitive after a while. As it turns out, the different types of dogs don't play all that different, but you still need to get through each one to get to the next animal, so I only got about halfway before getting bored.

154. We Happy Few
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rp0M5Y6JMbQ

What a fucking disaster. We Happy Few was my most anticipated game leading up to its release. I cannot explain how hyped I was for it. Bioshock is arguably my favorite game of all time, and this looked to be inspired by it across the board, but with a more 60s Clockwork Orange vibe. And there's so much here I still love. The story is interesting, the characters are interesting, the worldbuilding is excellent. The problem here is that the game itself is dogshit. It's a stealth survival game where the stealth and survival aspects are so broken as to be borderline unplayable at times. There are almost no games where I would say watching the game on Youtube is better than playing it. In fact, We Happy Few may honestly be the only one. I would legitimately recommend watching a collection of the cutscenes, because it's worth it. I mean it beat over 50 other games despite being easily bottom 10 in terms of playability just because the story is that good. Seriously, break it up into like hour-long sections and watch it as a miniseries. I know there's like no chance of it but I can only hope it some day gets a live action adaptation.

160. Sky: Children of the Light
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3DNTfhUy0k

I don't know how this went so wrong. Minor list spoilers: Children of the Light is basically Journey but with everything that made Journey as good as it was taken out. It's still pretty, sure, but the controls are worse. The levels are bigger but don't feel more dynamic, so you end up with big lengths of space that are cluttered with insignificant collectibles or just empty space. The simplistic social dynamic, one of the best aspects of Journey, was replaced by a generic MMO-lite setup where other players feel insignificant to the experience. And fucking microtransactions? I really tried to get into this, because I still like the elements of Journey that are there, but man this fell flat otherwise and I couldn't make myself finish it.

159. Disc Jam
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkfZGBm2d50

What the game lacks in modes it makes up for in being Windjammers.

158. Abobos Big Adventure
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6atT6G8Gng

This could only really be a Newgrounds game because it they ever tried to do anything else with it, it would be a copyright lawyer's nightmare. Abobo's Big Adventure is packed full of nostalgia. To be fair though, it's nostalgia for games that I didn't really grow up on (for the most part). That being said, I'd love to play it on a console, because I don't really feel like playing it in an internet browser really does the concept justice. I never played the whole way through, but part of me still wants to do so, maybe more now than I did a decade ago.

157. Florence
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/9USvEqlIZk0

I'm cheating with this ranking. I did finish Florence. But it's also too small and simple to really place above this, but also cute enough that I didn't want to write it off as one I'd forgotten (because frankly, there's not that much to forget. It's just extremely cute, being more of an art piece in the way KIDS and We Become What we Behold were, only significantly better.

E4 was definitely the best of the season so far, which is nice because I've been pretty neutral on Loki overall

I know everyone talks about the crushing being brutal but goddamn that spaghettification got me

I'm sure people who know my tastes in games can guess a few of them! But I'd be startled if someone could get all 10

The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster and Influencer are both really good movies I currently have in my top 10 horror films of the year.
watched both this past week and both are fantastic (I did prefer Ingrid Goes West to Influencer, although that's less horror driven)

The Color of Space
Psycho Goreman
Mandy
Mayhem

Color Out of Space is really good and would be a personal favorite if not for a select few things, like Nicholas Cage not really being the best fit for this role

Psycho Goreman is a personal favorite and one of the best horror comedies out there, hands down.

Mandy is perhaps that role Nicholas Cage is the best fit for, and basically every screenshot of this could be a top-tier metal album cover

Mayhem gets overlooked (by me as well, admittedly) but is very fun and super violent

165. I Am Bread
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwDhUt5ewKk

This is another one from Bossa Studios, mostly known for Surgeon Simulator. It's the same kind of thing, designed with wonky controls where the main challenge is the basic navigation of movement and the goal is just to get toasted. But I think the humor works a little more for me here, and there's a little more creativity in play. Like most levels after the first you aren't actually trying to get into a toaster, but trying to figure out what other ways to make it happen. Like in the living room level, there's a radiator there as the obvious goal, but alternatively if you manage to knock a bowling ball onto the tv and catch it on fire, you can get toasted that way. This all culminates in blowing up a gas station to get toasted in the last level (which I'm just now remembering I did actually beat, huh).

164. Hue
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iP7mp5Y5EHI

What was the first game to do this whole "change the colors of the background to make things of that color vanish" thing? I swear I've seen it in a handful of different games. 3 (I think?) more are going to appear on this list alone. Hue is the one I remember the least, which is funny because it's the one that utilizes the mechanic the most. As a puzzle platformer though, it was alright.

163. Kentucky Route Zero (Chapters 1 & 2)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bp8f7zWwRjo

Remember what I said about Deltarune? No game has suffered for me for its release schedule more than Kentucky Route Zero, and it's not close. I bought chapters 1 & 2 in 2013. The game was finished in 2020. I like Chapters 1 & 2 a lot, but I cannot maintain hype for the next part of an indie game, or most games for the matter, for over seven years. I like the first two chapters a lot, but I can't remember them much more than vibes at this point. Maybe at some point I'll go back and play the whole thing start to finish, but I've never been good at getting myself to restart a game from scratch like that.

162. Rubber Bandits
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXJWVj66QBk

I recently bought this one for fairly cheap when looking for new local multiplayer indie games, and I'm glad I did. It's very goofy fun in the way of Gang Beasts and Fall Guys and Party Animals but with a lot more weapons and a primary goal of stealing money (for the most part anyway; different modes have different goals). It's fast-paced and fun, and might end up ranking a little higher once I actually have the chance to play it more.

161. House Party
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fid59bMxPI

I used to watch a lot of Game Grumps, and this is the first and only game to make this list that isn't a game I've actually played. Normally I wouldn't count watching a let's play as playing the game, but in this instance I'm going to because I've seen the majority of what the game had to offer, and it's not a game particularly heavy on gameplay. Although, there's likely a LOT more content now than what there was before, because for what is basically a porn game, they just kept pumping more and more into it (hehe). It's legitimately hilarious at times, the hoops it makes you jump through to actually get to the sex parts are ridiculously long-winded and complicated and Frank's "howsitgoindude" may never leave my memory.
