tankboy 11/15/23 5:17:04 PM #16 | Ar0ge posted... Taking my 3 and 2 year olds to see Bluey Live for $65 per person. We're taking our (nearly) 6yo next week! $90 tix. I'm really looking forward to it! |
Topic | Random late night thought but it's sad Millennials failed to be as cool as genX |
tankboy 11/15/23 12:11:29 PM #47 | HHH_is_the_game posted... I definitely think this is part of it, Gen X just seems to not care. I just think of them hanging out, going to grunge and punk rock shows, not concerning themselves with all the nonsense. Actually, it really was like that! I was fortunate to be in cities with good all-ages music scenes (Philly and DC). |
Topic | How do you get over regret |
tankboy 11/15/23 4:56:26 AM #13 | In general, it's only fair to evaluate whether you made the best decision with the information and capabilities you had at the time. |

Topic | What would you say a person has to make to support a family of 4 on one income? |
tankboy 11/14/23 6:13:35 PM #8 | Does "support" mean survival mode or does it include things like private education, ability to afford medical care, and self-sufficiency in retirement? Because there's an an order of magnitude income range between the extremes. |

tankboy 11/13/23 8:19:25 AM #19 | Smallville posted... oh you mean if you put the wrong black one on the red one? You just match the colors You are not supposed to connect the black one directly to the battery terminal. |

tankboy 11/13/23 8:14:07 AM #3 | I thought this was going to be about all our pandas going back to China. It's like the pettiest thing. |
Topic | What's your unpopular opinion? |
tankboy 11/13/23 6:05:23 AM #191 | Games should be played with music off (not counting music games, of course). By extension, videogame music is valueless. |

tankboy 11/11/23 12:23:28 PM #52 | I have become more judgy (if you think x, then you are an idiot), but less activist (oh well, if you want to be an idiot, feel free). |
Topic | Fighting games are half softcore porn |
tankboy 11/11/23 9:33:26 AM #35 | Big deal, so is wrestling. |
Topic | Remember when God told some dude to sacrifice his son? |
tankboy 11/11/23 9:31:27 AM #27 | Keep in mind most of the Genesis stories are not about faith. If God directly commands you to do something, you don't do it out of faith, but out of fear. There's no faith involved, since you are getting direct evidence of the supernatural. Abraham "believed" in God for the same reason Persephone "believed" in Hades, and we believe in electricity. |
Topic | Do you like those haribo gummy bears? |
tankboy 11/10/23 9:47:38 AM #10 | Yes. They are the ISO standard gummi bear that all others are judged against. |

tankboy 11/09/23 4:32:25 PM #17 | Verdekal posted... Agreed but it was a cul-de-sac.I grew up on a cul-de-sac with an island, so it wouldn't be a U, it would just be driving straight (following the curve of the road). But a CDS without an island could be a u-turn. That's a little interesting and I never thought of it before. |

Topic | Any of you have ever taken Claritin or Zyrtek? |
tankboy 11/09/23 12:45:57 PM #22 | My wife and daughter take generic Zyrtec (usually CVS brand) and it works well for them. Better than Claritin, but YMMV. Don't forget that you have to take it for a while so that levels accumulate to an optimal level. |

tankboy 11/09/23 8:08:45 AM #7 | Flexible e-ink displays exist already. Here are two small ones, but you can find larger ones, too: https://www.adafruit.com/product/4262 https://www.waveshare.com/2.9inch-e-Paper-D.htm The problem is getting the controller circuitry small enough, but if there was a market for it, somebody already would have done it. |
Topic | Do you like women's 80s hairstyles? |
tankboy 11/09/23 8:01:13 AM #22 | Came in to see some Patrick Nagel art, left disappointed. |
Topic | Would you support increasing legal immigration numbers, into the u.s.? |
tankboy 11/09/23 7:03:56 AM #21 | NJ is the most densely populated state and yet has enough farmland to feed itself. Broadly speaking, that means any other state can fit more people (and probably NJ, too). |
Topic | Question on banking |
tankboy 11/08/23 5:34:33 PM #20 | Punished_Blinx posted... If you have their bank details are you not able to do a wired transfer regardless of what they think? They need to withdraw the money either way. Wire transfers are an expensive way to send money. He'd be better off ordering checks. (I realize TC updated to say it was cash-only anyway) |
Topic | Amazon Offering Healthcare for Prime Members |
tankboy 11/08/23 5:21:34 PM #39 | [LFAQs-redacted-quote] Yes, OneMedical provides in-person doctor appointments. The monthly/annual fee is for access to make appointments. It's basically cheap concierge medicine. Your insurance does not cover the membership fee and if you don't have insurance, you would pay the usual exorbitant rates for US medical care. Your copays would apply as usual for your insurance plan (they are probably in-network, but best to check!). They don't have all (most?) specialties, so for some needs, they would be giving you a referral to a specialist, not treating you "in house" (example: colonoscopy). And how competitive is this with Cuban's company (As Kimberly brought up) My understanding is that Cost Plus is an online pharmacy (with generally good prices and superior pricing transparency), not a medical provider. |
Topic | Amazon Offering Healthcare for Prime Members |
tankboy 11/08/23 4:49:12 PM #30 | I've been using One Medical since before AMZ bought them. It's fine. It's pretty easy to get appointments and they do walk-ins for vaccines and blood tests. In-network for me, of course. Several offices near me. I'm not a cheerleader for them, but I don't have any problems with them, either. |

Topic | Do any of you still use wired earbuds or headphones? |
tankboy 11/07/23 6:29:13 PM #48 | MartavisBryant posted... My man! What model/models do you have? SR-125 and SR-225e. I'm looking at SR-325x, but I'm not sure I can justify it right now. My phones have always been able to drive them without an amp. I first got into the open back design when I worked in a cube and needed something I could wear all day and that let in some ambient noise (desk phone, people stopping by). Now it's good when I'm at home and need to hear my 5yo calling for me. Not an appropriate choice for travel or activity, though. I suppose I should mention that I do use a wireless headset connected to my PC for Teams/Zoom meetings: A Yealink that uses DECT (like a cordless landline phone), not Bluetooth, which means very long range and minimal interference, so I can do laundry and whatnot while working. From what I gather, it's an uncommon solution. |

Topic | What do you usually get at a bar? |
tankboy 11/07/23 12:49:52 PM #68 | Bloody Mary if brunch. If there's a beer I've never tried, I'll usually get that (especially if draft), unless there's a very attractive special. |
Topic | Do any of you still use wired earbuds or headphones? |
tankboy 11/07/23 12:45:48 PM #21 | For music, I obviously use wired, with a dongle. I have Grados. For calls/meetings, I still use wired, because (1) I don't want yet another thing to charge and (2) I can't justify the expense of high quality wireless when they are only going to last 2-3 years, regardless of usage. |

Topic | Pro-Palestine protestors to Biden: "No cease-fire, no votes." |
tankboy 11/06/23 11:03:13 AM #352 | I think most of us can agree that the massacre of Gazan civilians (as an isolated issue) should cease. But the idea that it has anything to do with Democrat success or failure is vastly overestimating how much anybody in the US (and for that matter, the world) cares about them. That's the sad truth. |
