I'm well aware of the Korean War lol. What I meant in my post was that if the U.S wanted to oust the Kim dynasty (which was solidified after/during the Korean war) it would have made sense to do it shortly after the USSR fell seeing as they'd have less of a backing, not wait until 2017-2018 to do it.

Don't get me wrong, the USA has done more than its fair share of harmful interference of other countries, but let's try to not villainize the USA over North Korea. North Korea is a full-stop oppressive government. They send their people to labor camps. They starve their people. There is no freedom of anything. They have a s***load of artillery pointed at Seoul. They are the bad guy. They fear a regime change because frankly, they are the kind of regime that should be ended for the betterment of the world.

They can be the "bad guys" (labeling good and bad guys in global politics is silly though) here and still be afraid of being the victim of a U.S led regime change. Nothing you said is wrong, but maybe that's exactly why they're afraid of the U.S overthrowing the Kim dynasty. I mean look at the two examples Gabbard gave, both were considered "bad guys" and we used that to go in and overthrow them. You're right that we shouldn't be saying "aww poor North Korea" over this issue, but acting like the U.S is some innocent bystander is also wrong.

That's a bit of an oversimplification don't you think? I mean by that logic the only reason the U.S and Soviet Union amassed nuclear weapons is because they wanted to worship capitalism/communism.

Meant to make a topic about this yesterday. It's an interesting thought for sure. I mean the U.S HAS instituted regime change in many different countries, and it's not really a crazy concept for the U.S want Kim Jong Un out. At the same time if we wanted an NK regime change we'd have probably done it after the USSR fell. Whether it's a rational response or not, we can't just let them threaten us everyday with nukes.

There is clearly a gross amount of bias from the guy who created the topic, so this isn't for him, but rather a reasonable person who is isn't a Trump guy but wants to know why Trump guys exist

Gorsuch as SCJ
Illegal immigration at 45 year low
Stock market at record high
Economy is booming
Lot of jobs have come back
Tax reform
TPP is dead
Out of Paris Accord
Unemployment lowest in almost two decades (this is inherited from former president Barrack Obama, yes, but it has continued to get lower)
Food stamps lowest in 7 years

2 major cornerstones of the Trump Presidency were the economy and immigration. And, objectively speaking, they are obviously going extremely well. Additionally, all of President Trump's accomplishments get amplified because the opposite was supposed to happen. It was a common talking point that Trump couldn't get 3% GDP, he couldn't bring back jobs because he didn't have a "magic wand", the stock market would crash and it would be the end of the world as you know it. Those, unfortunately, aren't even exaggerations. When those are common talking points in the media, yet the opposite happens, it naturally makes it look even better

I'll vote Trump next election if you can link legislation/executive orders that correspond with each of the things you linked (other than Gorsuch since that's obvious).

Put it this way: You discover your neighbor's great great grandfather murdered your great great grandfather, raped your great great grandmother and then took over his company, earning hundreds of thousands of dollars.

That sucks, if he hadn't done that, you would be rich today and he wouldn't. But what does your neighbor and yourself today have to do with it?

Shit analogy seeing as you're comparing a situation between two people to a societal/institutional situation.

It's simply poor wording. I'm a history teacher myself (I teach in an inner city school where 90% of the population is black) and I've done a similar exercise like this only I worded it as list the justifications that society/slave owners gave for owning slaves/allowing slavery. I understand what the teacher was trying to go for, but labeling it as "good", even with the quotation marks, is a poor choice.

I don't understand the logic behind banning it. If it's to "protect" other people then that seems a little silly seeing as women account for very few of the overall terrorist population. If it's to safeguard women's rights that's also flawed seeing as women could be the ones choosing to wear it and we don't knit pick other religious practices such as circumcision (I'm not some weird anti-circumcision believer, just pointing out the hypocrisy). Should it be illegal to wear a ski-mask in Sweden, even when skiing, just because it's covering your face?

He talks about how the "battle for society" is going to be fought with a lot of imperfect allies and that point really resonated. A lot of times we(myself included) like to think that our way is the uncompromising way that the world should run and that anyone who deviates is wrong, or worse, the enemy. Not saying that we should throw PC culture out the window, but it is possible for someone to be on our side even when they don't adhere to the cookie cutter ideology.

Most people rent in these neighborhoods so there's not really any profit to be made from selling. What would happen is after a tenant's lease is up the landlord would charge a higher rent due to the fact that they can get more for the property now that an area has been "gentrified".
