A survey of 1,167 people conducted by two Sunday papers found 76 percent in favour of the initiative, compared with 20 percent against and three percent with no view on the issue, reported Swiss media on Monday. The popular initiative 'Yes to a ban on face coverings', which last September garnered more than the required 100,000 signatures to put it to a popular vote, calls for it to be made illegal for anyone to cover their face in public, with some exceptions including for local customs, the weather and health and safety reasons. Such a law would effectively ban the burqa, though the committee says it is also targeting hooligans and others who cover their face for criminal intent. The Swiss government opposes the idea, saying its up to the cantons to legislate on the issue. However in December it proposed a counter-project suggesting it be made illegal to force anyone to cover their face. The initiative and the counter-project will likely be put to the vote in 2019. I don't understand the logic behind banning it. If it's to "protect" other people then that seems a little silly seeing as women account for very few of the overall terrorist population. If it's to safeguard women's rights that's also flawed seeing as women could be the ones choosing to wear it and we don't knit pick other religious practices such as circumcision (I'm not some weird anti-circumcision believer, just pointing out the hypocrisy). I'm sure that the influx of Muslim refugees and immigrants has made the issue of public interaction with someone who hides their face one people are much more aware of, but that doesn't mean that the desire to see it done away with is tied to that person's specific nature for doing so. The burka, like many Islamic traditions, is intentionally patriarchal, misogynistic, regressive, etc. This might not be of major concern were it not for mass immigration of these people who don't hold the same Western values into European countries. Once the population is for the most part replaced and the natives are driven away the country will no longer be what it once was. There's a real imminent threat here.
Their Islamic traditions must be reigned in. They need to adapt to Europe, not the other way around. --- I'll defend any man's Funbazooka! ... Copied to Clipboard!
