Do you think the child who tried to commit suicide be charged with something for Marisa's death?.
He's 12 and likely mentally ill so no, it probably wouldn't be appropriate to charge him with anything.

I rarely get to say this, but I completely agree with Zeus here. This kid needs help, and lots of it. Criminal charges aren't going to help him nor society in general. It is absolutely tragic that he killed someone. I just don't think that making a criminal out of this kid will make anything better.

This. That kid has to live with this for the rest of his life, on top of already having deep depression. I cant imagine what Marisas family is going through, but if that was my wife or sister that died, I wouldnt have the heart to prosecute a suicidal 12 year-old.

Id probably try to reach out to the kid and ask him to live his life to the fullest in memory of my loved one, as a condition for not pressing charges. And offer my forgiveness. Itd be a tough pill to swallow, but that boys healing needs to start as soon as possible.

I mean, look at this (not my video):

Just as adjl pointed out, eating a high-fat/high-cholesterol diet is a choice. Heart disease is a disease.

You can choose to keep your addiction, you can't choose a hole shut in your heart.

Again, you dont choose addiction. And your point is silly. Of course you can choose a hole in your heart if you choose to shoot yourself. That nitpicking aside, you dont choose to be diabetic, but you can become a diabetic through poor eating habits.

I have lived with addicts, lost close friends and family to addiction. Those that have beaten addiction are known to be in recovery for the rest of their lives.

In many cases, cancer is self-inflicted too. So are heart attacks. So's diabetes. So are many infections. The cause and effect aren't as immediately linked as is the case with addiction, but if we're going to refuse to treat diseases based on how self-inflicted they are, a whole lot of medicine is just going to stop happening.

Thank you, yes. Made a similar point using diabetes, and was written off as irrelevant.

Also asked her if people who attempt suicide and fail should be told to stop being depressed and get over it. Same response, shes says thats not relevant to the discussion.

Being very condescending, too. Basically saying if you dont agree with her that you can just fuck off.

Have you gone in a sewer pipe before?

Yes, storm sewers.

When I was a kid they were building a housing development next to my neighborhood, and my friends and I would go down in the pipes to catch polliwogs. It was on weekends when it wasnt an active construction site, and I got caught and took a beating from my stepfather which effectively put the kibosh on those adventures.

When I was in high school I worked concrete construction and would work on a lot of box culverts for storm drainage systems. Spent some time in the pipes doing that, too. But again, those werent active sewer systems.

Does the fact that addiction is largely self-inflicted make it less serious as a condition? Should addicts be shamed and ridiculed for putting themselves in their respective situations?

Curious what people think. My cousin says that because addicts choose to do drugs, they should simply choose to stop. Easy peasy. Problem solved! Get over it, addicts! Its not like you have a real disease, like leukemia.

My argument was that being sick isnt a competition, and we should be able to treat everyones illness.

I'd say it has more with gaming becoming a more "mainstream" hobby, as well as the maturing of the medium into a storytelling platform overall. We truly have interactive experiences now, akin to movies and television, instead of half-baked stories tacked on to a game to give the player some semblance of motivation and plot. People become invested in the stories and characters now and look forward to sequels to continue their journey.

I think you'll see interest continue to rise for a number of years, as different demographics get keyed into the hobby. Eventually, it'll plateau, though.

We were told by the people hosting us that giving the beggars anything only encourages them, they're not like American beggars who'll typically leave you alone after you refuse them or pay them. SA beggars keep asking for more. Had one dude holding his hand out against my arm. Followed me for a good block and a half, saying things like "Please, my babies are hungry. Please!"

Was keen to keep an eye on him in case he was a pickpocketer. Felt guilty turning them away, but it is what it is.
