but you can limit it. you can't stop anything. people still drive drunk, people still steal, people still do a lot of things....but we have laws in place that not only punish those who do wrong but also prevent others from doing wrong for fear of punishment. Do you think every single person who takes an uber home from the bar does so because they are morally obligated to do so? Not all of them...many of them do it because they're too afraid of getting caught and getting busted. in those cases the law helped LIMIT the number of people driving drunk...it doesn't stop it completely but it still does good.

people are saying we need metal detectors and a full fleet of cops are very school...forgetting how absurd that image is (do we really want THAT to be the new "normal"...)...how do you propose we afford that? hire more cops just to patrol schools...you're already cutting funding to schools and education. they barely have enough money for school supplies as it is...now you think we should allocate some of that money towards creating a special police force that JUST patrols schools? no it isn't...you refuted that in your own post. you said when someone uses an explosive we blame the person....but we have also banned explosives. so are you saying that by banning explosives we're blaming the explosive and not the person? of course not. we still blame the person. we just did something that made it harder for people like that to be able to use their tool of choice to harm people.

We created DUI laws because there was a problem with people driving drunk and hurting others....yet we still have DUIs everyday...does that mean we should eliminate the law? of course not because that law still prevents other cases. because of that law some people think twice before driving drunk...just because a few idiots still choose to break that law doesn't mean that it isn't a law worth having.

So I have an old laptop. The Power supply is fucked. if the wire isn't in the right position it instantly shuts off. it won't charge. last time i plugged it in i shorted out my power and had to reset the breaker...

...that laptop has a bunch of old files and programs i used to use for making music and i've really been trying to get back into that. My two options are to repurchase all my software and use an enclosure to access the files on the HD but i was also thinking....

...if i were to buy a new power supply for that laptop would that solve the power issue? I really just want to connect it to a monitor and keyboard i have. never having to open the laptop itself. just mount it somewhere and have it controlled Via external mouse and keyboard...But the thing is old. I have another old Laptop with a broken power supply (got it from a friend who had no idea what to do with it) and i was thinking of just buying a new supply for that and swapping the HDs....Would that work?
