Yes, in fact the longer they're there the worse it gets. People tend to get lugged (removed from the unit/pod and sent to "solitary") more towards the end of their sentence just due to seeing the light and having to wait each day stuck in the cell for at least 18hours.

I have full blown conversations with serial killers and child rapists. One guy had charges of selling child porn where he would print you up coffee mugs and teeshirts if you wanted.

No. We aren't guards in my county we're Deputies. Jumping one of us is a 2.5 year felony charge. It happens but very rarely and normally it's a guy going to prison for a long time trying to build up a name before he gets there.
It takes about 15 seconds to respond to a unit if you punch a CO you're getting your ass kicked by about 7 people within a minute. It's super rare though.

Not at all. They have access to law documents preloaded into a computer locked behind a steel cage.

One gentleman took to shoving things up his urethra. To the point where we had to feed him with a rubber tray soft food only, and he still managed to find an old fingernail in the cell and shove it up in there.

Gotta admire that level of dedication. If only he had channeled that sort of drive and ambition into something positive.

Theyre estimating that its around 30% effective, which is only slightly lower than average actually.

They wont know for sure until May or so when the flu season actually ends.

My wife's best friend is an infectious disease pharmacist for the CDC working out of boston and she said 10% therefore I am assuming she's right.

In fact recently one inmate made a comment about offering sex and it was reported and he was transferred out of the jail.

It's taken very seriously. Also, the county I work in is known for being run very tightly. We're run more strictly than a lot of max prisons.

That will get you a sex offender charge.
One inmate wrote a female's full name (they don't see our first names) in a letter and was transferred out of the jail.
If you hit a guard with fluid of any kind you get aggravated A+B on an officer because we're Deputies we are law enforcement.
I do street patrols occasionally normally that's something you need time in for but I have the qualifications and look good on paper.

If inmates are going to do something with bodily fluids it's normally piss and shit and it's normally thrown at sex offenders.

What are some of the biggest differences you see between an actual prison and the stuff in tv and movies?

I work in a county jail. There is 20 hours of cell time. No outside rec, no conjugal visits etc.
There are serial killers and drunks in the same unit (or pod), but they general try to keep the high profile guys separate.

There aren't fights every day and the fights are almost always 1 on 1 and easily broken up. No one tries to fight guards and truth be told no one really even gives attitude or acts tough with me at all.

Hooch is real, beinga rapist or having child related charges is something that gets you fucked up and we have a special unit for those crimes to keep them away form the general population.

Rape isn't a thing, female officers get treated with more respect because the male inmates don't want to even have it look like they're trying anythign because it can lead to more charges.

I barely worked HVAC... mostly when I was down in florida which wasn't very long. I did it and EMT stuff part time for awhile.

I made it home alive.

They are pretty much self sufficient.

Prison rape is very uncommon. Sex at all in prison is super uncommon. You can actually get charged with a crime for masturbating if you have a cell mate. Most people get off in the shower or when their cellies go to court.

Perfectly ok. I'll actually be a Deputy Sheriff in April. You have to work so many hours as a correctional officer before the sheriff will give you the real powers.

I just brought a child porn distributor to and from court. He got 2.5 years with a consecutive sentence of 2.5 years.
Then with another sentence of 2.5 years to be given after his first sentence is completed.
And that is considered a MASSIVE amount of time.
So 7.5 years, not granted that's to be served in a county jail and county sentences are run stricter than most max security prisons, so he'll be in his cell 20 hours a day.
But still... 90 years is a TON of time for this crime.
In fact, most rapists end up not even seeing a decade behind bars.

Or probably breaking bad but pssh.
