ElatedVenusaur 10/04/17 11:55:38 PM #36 | Hinakuluiau posted... RebelElite791 posted...Blind idealism gets people killed if you're too stubborn to be pragmatic when needed. This is a good post. Being an American leftist is depressing, though hopefully we can improve things going forward. Me, personally, I'm a white dude. Probably like most posters here, but I have friends who're women, friends who're minorities or gay or trans. I want them to be and feel as safe as I do. |
Topic | Whats the difference in the Left and Liberals? |
ElatedVenusaur 10/04/17 8:48:39 PM #22 | emblem boy posted... The main reason I asked is because I see people like Shapiro or Dave Rubin seem to use Leftist as a negative against anyone left of conservatives and Republicans and liberals as classical liberals. Neoliberals and liberals, primarily, with a few outliers either way. |
Topic | Cam Newton under fire for belittling a female reporter |
ElatedVenusaur 10/04/17 8:47:14 PM #36 | That was both very dumb and very bad of him. I can't wait for the standard-issue "sorry-you-were-offended" apology followed by this woman magically losing her job for totally unrelated reasons. |
Topic | Rate the State Day 7: Connecticut |
ElatedVenusaur 10/04/17 8:36:32 PM #6 | Connecticut gets lots of crap, but is actually overall good. Pros: -State government isn't evil -2 casinos -Some decent cities -Great pizza -Lobster rolls done right -Quality education -Lots of local craft breweries Cons: -State government is dumb -Liquor laws are dumb -Taxes are kind of high -Taxes are poorly distributed(i.e. over-reliance on sales tax) -Long Island Sound is kind of lame and there is no ocean access |
Topic | Culdcept Revolt is out! |
ElatedVenusaur 10/03/17 8:02:48 PM #1 | Anyone else get it for 3DS? For you uncultured rubes who have never heard of Culdcept, it's basically a fusion of Magic the Gathering and Monopoly. You use your deck of creatures, spells, and items to develop/capture lands to develop so that you can fulfill the map goal, presumably while taking your competitors to the cleaners. |
Topic | Holy shit, WTF is going on in Spain? |
ElatedVenusaur 10/03/17 11:18:26 AM #37 | Sativa_Rose posted... The EU has said its not getting involved and says its an internal Spanish matter. Maybe he wants the EU to get involved. Of course not, because the EU is useless. It's my understanding that the independence referendum was projected to fail until the Spanish decided to start randomly attacking Catalonians. Now Catalonian independence would appear to enjoy overwhelming support. Good job Spain! |
Topic | So, what's there to do in Kansas City? |
ElatedVenusaur 10/03/17 12:39:59 AM #13 | Great barbecue, or so I hear. In fact, IIRC, Chiefs coach Andy Reid can usually be found at one particular restaurant most nights. |
Topic | Official DA BEARS v packgirls on Amazon topic |
ElatedVenusaur 09/28/17 10:25:26 PM #61 | Guys, I think the Bears may be bad at football. |
Topic | Just set foot in Kanto in Pokemon Silver, not sure about my team |
ElatedVenusaur 09/28/17 10:23:41 PM #6 | They made the level curve way better in HG/SS. And HG/SS has a terrible level curve. There are so many trainers with, like, one pokemon that's five levels lower than any of your team of 4. The level curve is bad, but there simply aren't very many trainers either. They usually don't even bother putting them in caves. |
Topic | Illinois Gov. Rauner signs bill allowing Medicaid for abortions |
ElatedVenusaur 09/28/17 10:20:53 PM #48 | This is cool and good. Restricting access to contraception and medical procedures such as abortions are a violation of a woman's right to control her own damned body. |
Topic | People won't stop calling about the snes mini. |
ElatedVenusaur 09/28/17 10:18:54 PM #6 | It sounds like people calling Whole Foods on, like, the 4th of July, to ask if we're open and/or what our hours are(normal hours). The supervisors keep a tally for a few hours before giving up in exasperation. |

Topic | Who do you think should run for President in 2020? |
ElatedVenusaur 09/26/17 9:54:36 PM #31 | To be clear, my dream ticket is Bernie Sanders and Tammy Duckworth. |
Topic | Alabama Senate Runoff - Roy Moore vs. Luther Strange Topic |
ElatedVenusaur 09/26/17 9:51:39 PM #9 | The sad thing is that Roy Moore is basically guaranteed to be a senator. And I'm not sure whether or not he's an improvement over Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III. |
Topic | Who do you think should run for President in 2020? |
ElatedVenusaur 09/26/17 9:49:45 PM #25 | Who we think should run matters little. Barring a primary challenge of a sitting president(rare, but not unprecedented), all the action will be on the Democratic side. I'd imagine the following are at least thinking about it. I've bolded the ones I think should run. Fmr. Sec. of State Hillary Clinton Sen. Bernie Sanders Sen. Kamala Harris Sen. Cory Booker Former VP Joe Biden Sen. Elizabeth Warren Gov. Andrew Cuomo Sen. Amy Klobuchar Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand |
Topic | Healthcare vote officially scrapped |
ElatedVenusaur 09/26/17 7:00:57 PM #61 | Tmaster148 posted... Axiom posted...UnholyMudcrab posted...NibeIungsnarf posted...Whats to stop them trying to get a new proposal through next week? Isn't that what they've been doing since the first failed bill? To be fair, there are probably some Republicans who are willing to make some minor, bi-partisan tweaks. Collins, Murkowski, McCain, and Alexander chief among them. The problem is that any bill that can get significant Democratic support is unlikely to have the support of the majority of Republican senators, let alone a majority of House Republicans. Neither Majority Leader McConnell nor House Speaker Ryan is likely to defy their caucus for this. This is why Schumer and Pelosi schmoozing Trump with the prospect of a bi-partisan bill is brilliant: it will help direct Trump's anger towards McConnell and Ryan, thereby making it even less likely they'll ever be able to get something done. |
Topic | Healthcare vote officially scrapped |
ElatedVenusaur 09/26/17 3:16:27 PM #32 | Ex-Kefiroth posted... It's not going to die. they'll just try again next year. That would be a few months before mid-terms. Trotting out yet another Obamacare "repeal" bill with ~20% approval a month or two ahead of elections would torpedo their chances of picking up seats in the Senate. To say nothing of the effect on the House. It would be electoral suicide. |
Topic | What's the last Mega Man game you played? |
ElatedVenusaur 09/26/17 2:35:40 PM #4 | I just got Mega Man X Zero collection and started playing it. Makes me feel like I'm bad at this gaming business. |
Topic | Graham-Cassidy not being put to vote. |
ElatedVenusaur 09/26/17 2:34:08 PM #3 | This is important, because they can't pass anything under Reconciliation rules after Sept. 30th, which means all future attempts at repeal need 60 votes. And they had 49 at their high-water mark. They could try to pass it under reconciliation next year, but that would basically have to happen right before the 2018 elections. |
Topic | who's worse? the NFL? or Neo-Nazis? |
ElatedVenusaur 09/26/17 2:31:29 PM #5 | Being worse than the NFL is an achievement Neo-Nazis ought to be proud of. They really had to work at it, but, in the end, their hard work paid off. |
Topic | Body cams are "unfair to officers" according to the police union... |

Topic | Cowboys vs Cardinals topic |
ElatedVenusaur 09/26/17 12:18:06 AM #62 | DeMarcus Lawrence was clowning Cardinals offensive linemen all night. It's alright though, because the Seahawks offensive line exists and is worse. |
Topic | This CONSERVATIVE Quit his Job ON THE SPOT after NFL Players KNEEL'ED!! |
ElatedVenusaur 09/26/17 12:15:29 AM #39 | Guess he got triggered HARD. So did Jim Kelly. Oh well, all this kneeling business probably means there will be less Bills fans wanting Nathan Peterman to start, so it's fine by me. |
Topic | Me whenever Tony Romo calls a game |
ElatedVenusaur 09/25/17 3:35:53 PM #14 | I like him a lot. And I already liked him by default because he replaced Phil Simms. He's in my top 4 with Collinsworth, Gannon and Gruden. |
Topic | TRAITOR! McCain says he won't vote for new Healthcare Bill |
ElatedVenusaur 09/22/17 4:35:59 PM #17 | Collins was already leaning no, as all of her concerns about previous bills are the same or greater about this one. Unless Rand Paul or McCain does an about-face, it's done. That's before even considering Murkowski, who has thus far voted down every "repeal" proposal. |

Topic | Stellaris: Synthetic Dawn drops tomorrow! |
ElatedVenusaur 09/21/17 11:56:26 PM #2 | Ehee. Paradox sale has spread to Steam! DLCs are only 50% off though, and exclude the most recent expansions(except for CK2). CK2 and EU4 are -75% off, Stellaris and Hearts of Iron IV are -60% off. |
Topic | All this backlash about the hurricanes are annoying |
ElatedVenusaur 09/20/17 11:52:34 PM #4 | I had a coworker tell me today that all these hurricanes were created by NOAA's secret weather-control program. Sounded like somebody heard about cloud-seeding and went way off the deep end with it. I just kind of stared at her, all bug-eyed. |
Topic | So Puerto Rico is 100% out of power right now |
ElatedVenusaur 09/20/17 11:50:12 PM #75 | Bankrupt and now in literal ruins. Puerto Rico is in dire need of assistance, Marshall Plan-style. |
Topic | The Cassini spacecraft has been destroyed by Saturn after a 13 year mission. |
ElatedVenusaur 09/20/17 11:46:41 PM #45 | IIRC, one of the reasons they crashed it into Saturn was that they didn't want it crashing on Enceladus or Titan. |

Topic | Stellaris: Synthetic Dawn drops tomorrow! |
ElatedVenusaur 09/20/17 8:07:58 PM #1 | And, of course, the next major patch, 1.8, which promises major improvements, including a new end-game crisis, new civics, and loads of balance and quality-of-life improvements. Synthetic Dawn itself is a story-pack focused on robotic civilizations and robots in general. It features playable robots in a few different flavors(including robots who seek to assimilate organic life, robots that seek to exterminate it, and robots hell-bent on putting organics in lush, carefully-managed preserves so the organics don't wipe themselves out.) There's also a new fallen empire type and a brand-new set of robotic portraits. Full details on the story pack and patch features at the link: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/stellaris-dev-diary-86-%C4%8Capek-synthetic-dawn-patch-notes.1043979/ It comes out tomorrow. Stellaris will be great Also, earlier stuff might go on sale on Steam. It already is on the Paradox store. |

Topic | They should remake Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow before Diamond/Pearl/Platinum |
ElatedVenusaur 09/20/17 4:42:18 PM #9 | luigi13579 posted... I must admit, the lack of physical / special split in FR/LG annoys me. It's great to be freed from the limitations of the old system when creating a team. A Pokemon with shitty Sp. Atk. only having physical STABs or vice versa sucks. FR/LG is also needlessly kludgy in regards to outright blocking 'mons like Golbat and Chansey from evolving before you get the National Dex. If they did revisit the Kanto games, I'd hope they'd inject some more pokemon(certainly the Johto mons that are found there in GSC, for starters) into the region, as 150 is an increasingly small number. If they were feeling really ambitious, an original post-game based partially in Johto would be neat. I mean, the two regions are literally next to each other.(they will never do this). Would prefer a D/P remake in the style of ORAS first though. |

ElatedVenusaur 09/18/17 10:59:00 PM #85 | I work at the local Whole Foods. Working there sucks, but I get benefits for being full-time, so it could be worse. Going back to school soon though. Can't put up with this for much longer. |

ElatedVenusaur 09/18/17 8:28:01 PM #19 | I Like Toast posted... ElatedVenusaur posted...s. Kaepernick is a significantly better passer than Hoyer Oh, ok then. Kaep 2016: 196/331(59.2%) 2,241 yards(6.77 Y/A) 16 TDs/ 4 INTs 90.7 rating Yeah, he can't throw at all. Oh yeah, I forgot his rushing stats: 69/468(6.8 avg.) 2 TDs Nope, definitely can't run anymore! That's in 12 games. The rushing leader amongst QBs, Tyrod Taylor, played 15 games and ran for 580 yds at 5.8 yds. per attempt. 2016 happens to have been the best year of Hoyer's career, closely followed by the 2015 season. I wonder why the Texans dumped him? Hoyer vs. the Chiefs in the 2015 playoffs: 15/34 136 yds. 0 TDs/4 INTs Woof. Also, we're only two games into 2017, but Hoyer... 39/62(62.9%) 292 yds.(4.71 Y/A,) 0 TD/ 2 INTs So, umm, he's not exactly on pace to replicate his only good seasons. I bolded that Y/A because that's positively brutal. In fact, it's worse than 2016 Blaine Gabbert by a whole yard, but I suspect Hoyer will at least outdo Blaine Gabbert. |

Kaepernick is a significantly better passer than Hoyer. Not that Kaep is great or anything, but he's much better than the Hoyers, Glennons, Savages, Bortles, and McCowns of the world. He doesn't have a job because NFL owners are basically all ultra-conservatives. It has nothing to do with his ability to play quarterback. |

ElatedVenusaur 09/18/17 3:34:51 PM #11 | I have to close Thursday night, but I should be home in time for the second half. Rooting for the Rams, as they have the 2016 Buffalo Bills top 2 WRs. |

ElatedVenusaur 09/16/17 8:23:27 PM #14 | I read a ton. The latest thing I read was an anthology of short stories written by Tibetan authors. Most of them were depressing. I have a massive backlog of books at all times. |
Topic | Literally 57 hours until meaning football and no topic |
ElatedVenusaur 09/15/17 11:54:28 AM #250 | The Buffalo Bills can run the ball well, and once Charles Clay inevitably dies, that is all they will be able to do. Passing plays will be Tyrod Taylor moving about the pocket, rolling out, desperately searching for an open receiver that will only ever be LeSean McCoy in the flat. I have no comments on the defense, other than that it performed adequately against the Jets. |
