Blind idealism gets people killed if you're too stubborn to be pragmatic when needed.

The larger problem is that a lot of Clinton supporters were openly derisive of Sanders. Like you said, they agreed on 99% of things. But the anti-Sanders crowd from the democrats side, at the DNC, Twitter, Reddit, and even here on CE, would have made an outsider think he was trying to do everything different from her.

I voted for her. I'd vote for her again. And I think anyone who "would've voted for Sanders but voted for Trump" is an A+ moron who doesn't understand politics or any of the candidates very well, but the people who pushed Clinton are just as responsible for the backlash as the blind idealistic "Bernie Bros."

The general idea being that they feel the Democrats are a bit too centrist, a bit too corporate, and a bit too concession-y while not being liberal enough is not a new idea. I agree that it's better to be pragmatic, but it's also shitty to tell people "hey we're cool with some of the stuff you like, vote for us or you'll get stuck with the people who do none of the things you like." It's a shitty feeling.

This is a good post. Being an American leftist is depressing, though hopefully we can improve things going forward.
Me, personally, I'm a white dude. Probably like most posters here, but I have friends who're women, friends who're minorities or gay or trans. I want them to be and feel as safe as I do.

Connecticut gets lots of crap, but is actually overall good.
Pros:
-State government isn't evil
-2 casinos
-Some decent cities
-Great pizza
-Lobster rolls done right
-Quality education
-Lots of local craft breweries

Cons:
-State government is dumb
-Liquor laws are dumb
-Taxes are kind of high
-Taxes are poorly distributed(i.e. over-reliance on sales tax)
-Long Island Sound is kind of lame and there is no ocean access

After the end of the month (which is Saturday), the reconciliation period ends and they won't be able to pass it with a simple majority.

Lmao. Maybe this will give them some incentive to try and actually come up with something better than just going hard as fuck trying to simply get rid of it with no plan going forward

I don't have any expectations that republicans in congress have any desire to work together to make something good for the people of this country.

To be fair, there are probably some Republicans who are willing to make some minor, bi-partisan tweaks. Collins, Murkowski, McCain, and Alexander chief among them. The problem is that any bill that can get significant Democratic support is unlikely to have the support of the majority of Republican senators, let alone a majority of House Republicans. Neither Majority Leader McConnell nor House Speaker Ryan is likely to defy their caucus for this.
This is why Schumer and Pelosi schmoozing Trump with the prospect of a bi-partisan bill is brilliant: it will help direct Trump's anger towards McConnell and Ryan, thereby making it even less likely they'll ever be able to get something done.

And, of course, the next major patch, 1.8, which promises major improvements, including a new end-game crisis, new civics, and loads of balance and quality-of-life improvements.

Synthetic Dawn itself is a story-pack focused on robotic civilizations and robots in general. It features playable robots in a few different flavors(including robots who seek to assimilate organic life, robots that seek to exterminate it, and robots hell-bent on putting organics in lush, carefully-managed preserves so the organics don't wipe themselves out.) There's also a new fallen empire type and a brand-new set of robotic portraits.

Full details on the story pack and patch features at the link:
https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/stellaris-dev-diary-86-%C4%8Capek-synthetic-dawn-patch-notes.1043979/

I must admit, the lack of physical / special split in FR/LG annoys me. It's great to be freed from the limitations of the old system when creating a team. A Pokemon with shitty Sp. Atk. only having physical STABs or vice versa sucks.

Another down side of FR/LG compared to D/P/Pt: no online features.

FR/LG is also needlessly kludgy in regards to outright blocking 'mons like Golbat and Chansey from evolving before you get the National Dex. If they did revisit the Kanto games, I'd hope they'd inject some more pokemon(certainly the Johto mons that are found there in GSC, for starters) into the region, as 150 is an increasingly small number. If they were feeling really ambitious, an original post-game based partially in Johto would be neat. I mean, the two regions are literally next to each other.(they will never do this).

Would prefer a D/P remake in the style of ORAS first though.

I do think people are overrating it. I don't think it was a bad episode, but there wasn't much to it. The episode itself also felt very short. The squirrel bit was good, but that's probably the most memorable part of it.

But I wouldn't say there's no lasting outcome. It shows how manipulative Rick is as he was literally removing any memories from Morty where Rick did something wrong. Beth was very quick to chose Summer over Morty. And Summer has some kind of role as an assistant to Rick, which means Rick trusts Summer enough to be backup incase things go wrong.

I actually thought the episode was kind of meh, but Summer walking in at the end was great. You get the feeling this sort of thing happens regularly.

s. Kaepernick is a significantly better passer than Hoyer

benderlaughing.gif

Kaep was a better QB when he had legs. Those legs beautifully beat the packers many times. Then, like every qb that relies on his legs over his arm, his legs went and his arm isn't good enough. That's why even before the protest no one was trading for Kaep to be their starters when the 49ers were shopping him.

And kaep hasn't had a y/a over 7 since 2013. Hoyer hasn't had a y/a under 7 since the same year. 3 of the last 4 years kaep has had a completion % under 60%. And that one year above was 60.5%, his second highest in his career. 3 of the last 2 of the last 4 for hoyer are over, with a 67% with the god awful bears last year.

Sure, kaep in 2011-2013 was the better QB by a mile. And how great those 3 years were for the team earned him the next 3 years to figure out how to throw. he couldn't and everyone with a football IQ over 10 knows that the 49ers are just waiting to get cousins when the redskins stop tagging him unless cousins gets the crazy guaranteed money he needs to stick in the hellhole of washington

Butterfiles posted...

he also provides a threat to run, which hoyer doesn't

and unlike kaep, hoyer is a threat to throw. Personally I want my qb to do his job rather than try and run a read option offense with a 30 y/o qb and carlos hyde as the only other option.

Oh, ok then.
Kaep 2016: 196/331(59.2%) 2,241 yards(6.77 Y/A) 16 TDs/ 4 INTs 90.7 rating
Yeah, he can't throw at all.
Oh yeah, I forgot his rushing stats: 69/468(6.8 avg.) 2 TDs
Nope, definitely can't run anymore! That's in 12 games. The rushing leader amongst QBs, Tyrod Taylor, played 15 games and ran for 580 yds at 5.8 yds. per attempt.
2016 happens to have been the best year of Hoyer's career, closely followed by the 2015 season. I wonder why the Texans dumped him?
Hoyer vs. the Chiefs in the 2015 playoffs: 15/34 136 yds. 0 TDs/4 INTs
Woof.

Also, we're only two games into 2017, but Hoyer...
39/62(62.9%) 292 yds.(4.71 Y/A,) 0 TD/ 2 INTs
So, umm, he's not exactly on pace to replicate his only good seasons. I bolded that Y/A because that's positively brutal. In fact, it's worse than 2016 Blaine Gabbert by a whole yard, but I suspect Hoyer will at least outdo Blaine Gabbert.

Hoyer has 9 games with 300 or more yards, kaep has 6. Of the 34 games hoyer had at least 15 attempts, he was only under 200 yards 8 times. Out of the 58 times kaep had at least 15 attempts, he was under 200 yards 26 times.

That right there is why Kaep isn't a starter. And the media distraction, no matter how much in the right his protest is, is why he doesn't have a backup job.

Just...lol.
Kaep's career stats: 59.8% CMP 7.25 Y/A 72 TDs/30 INTs 88.9 rating
Brian Hoyer's career stats: 59.7% CMP 7.06 Y/A 44 TDs/28 INTs 83.6 rating
Kaep has ~400 more attempts than Hoyer, yet has thrown only 2 more interceptions. Kaepernick is a significantly better passer than Hoyer. Not that Kaep is great or anything, but he's much better than the Hoyers, Glennons, Savages, Bortles, and McCowns of the world.
He doesn't have a job because NFL owners are basically all ultra-conservatives. It has nothing to do with his ability to play quarterback.
