I remember just seeing that a pro player (I think it was Momochi?) broke up with his girlfriend to focus on fighting games.

I doubt it. Momochi and Choco were streaming during Christmas together

If you want to see how much effort it requires to get good at fighting games, here is an interesting documentary:

FightingGames posted...

It showcases the personal lives and dedication that pro players (Daigo, Tokido, NuckleDu, XiaoHai, Luffy, and Gamerbee) put into SF5.

- Daigo plays until 5AM
- Gamerbee plays 8 hours daily
- Tokido lives in the Topanga "fight club" basement to train daily
- XiaoHai dropped out of school to spend more time training
- Similarly, Luffy quit his job to train more
- NuckleDu is an oddball - he doesn't enjoy playing video games yet is one of the strongest players

"You spend like 30 minutes practicing one corner combo just to do it once or twice in training mode. In any other game, if you spend 30 minutes doing anything, you basically platinum the whole game or you get some crazy rewards. In fighting games, there is no fucking reward - you are still trash. No wonder they aren't as popular as any other games. In Resident evil or Dark Souls, you only have to remember that you still have 2 shots left in your gun or whatever."

"You don't think about until you stop playing them for a while and realize that they are fucked up"

"People who are really good at fighting games are some kind of smart - not street smart or book smart, but some kind of smart. They are something special at least."

Is Aris right about fighting games being insanely difficult?

Super Diamond ranked SFV player exposes the underlying hypocrisy of modern society's political correctness
Dale Emanuel Wilson, well-known as Low Tier God, drops a powerful remark about a recent H&M advertisement controversy that has liberals and black people offended. The advertisement shows a confident young black child wearing a hoodie with the label "Coolest Monkey in the Jungle". This sparked controversy among the rich black celebrities for its racist connotation.

However, one man of wisdom, well-known for defeating the world's highest ranked Guile player in Street Fighter V, has step up to reveal the unjustified criticism against the advertisement. Low Tier God reasons that during the advertisement development, there were decisions made, including from the young black boy's parents. Low Tier God logically asserts that the parents' must have agreed to the advertisement during the decision-making process. Low Tier God consequently provides a counter-argument that these rich black celebrity critics are inadvertently attacking their own race's decision.

He further points out that black people have rioted in response by vandalizing and breaking the windows of H&M stores simply because of tweets of criticism by the rich black celebrities. Low Tier God argues that violence is not the answer, especially if the issue does not locally affect you. He claims that racism is always going to be around and that blacks are only perpetuating the issue needlessly further.

"If blacks want to evolve, we need to get over trivial things like this - things that have nothing to do with you as a whole"

"I don't see a monkey. I see a beautiful black child in a loving family"

"Again, I am not part of the WE WUZ KANGZ movement. We need to move forward. We didn't deal what our ancestors had to dealt with. Today, there is nothing stopping black peoples from doing whatever they want to do. Yet, close-minded blacks keep bringing up the fact that the suppression still exists when it really doesn't."

Is Low Tier God right about black people needing to move on beyond getting offended over archaic connotations of racism?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banana_(slur)

Banana is a term for an East Asian person living in a Western country (e.g., an Asian American) who has lost touch with the cultural identity of his or her parents.[1] The term is derived from the fruit banana, which is "yellow on the outside, white on the inside". It may be used as a pejorative term or as a non-pejorative term.

Are modern Asian Americans historically known for losing their traditional roots?

Be sure to pick up the only current-gen fighting game that actually has proper neutral gameplay and an active playerbase.

DBFZ was confirmed to have massive server problems 2 weeks before launch. Pro players like PunkDaGod are refunding their pre-orders after playing the beta because of its ridiculously low skill-ceiling.

BBCTB is already dead before arrival because half of the roster are locked behind DLC.

FGs are hard because it's not a linear transcend between playtime and skill. To get good at FGs, you have to spend hours in the lab to practice execution, and browse replay videos and forum posts to learn new tactics. The average gamer does not have the patience to do this, and FGs intentionally have no mechanic in bridging newcomers and vets such as enabling teammates and RNG, in order to foster the historical tradition of competitive play.

The shit you are talking about only fucking matters if you are playing at tournament levels.

most fighting games you can just button mash your way through them. The dude in the OP video even talks about how someone beat SF4 in his first try by just spamming the spinning lariat. As for online, people are literally dumb enough to lose to this:

i'm referring to online ranked play in general, not high-level tournament play exclusively.

single player mode in FGs have a separate skill requirement that isn't held with any value. You can abuse AI patterns, get away with unsafe moves, and rely on a single strategy. When facing against a human opponent, the playing field completely changes. Obviously, people are gonna choke and lose to random DP mashers but that is expected in the rookie rank level; you cannot get away with spamming repetitive moves as you progress beyond higher levels
