No, I get the connection, but it still comes off as dumb and forced. Have him be his own character with Rocky as his trainer, don't lean on the past to carry the plotline or his character motivations. By dragging the Drago lineage into that, they're not letting Creed develop into it's own thing and keeping it stuck in the past.

Every Rockyverse movie is stuck in the past. It's one of the main themes of like every one of the sequels and to an extent the original as well.
