The comic's Pride consisted of time travelers, sorcerers, aliens, mutants, mad scientists, and criminals (okay, the Wilders didn't change much).

Damn, that sounds pretty cool. Maybe it was too tricky to pull off, but I for one would have watched the show just for that alone and given them a lot of leeway for the effort.

I'm not sure if budget or "muh realism" is the problem. The Yorkes being biologists instead of time travelers is more realistic, but it's much more boring.

It just sort of misses the basic premise of the comic which is that their parents are essentially every type of supervillain there is.

I didn't mind the Yorkes being biologist compared to time-travelers because the good arcs of Runaways generally avoided time-travel anyway and a super-raptor with a psychic link makes more sense from people Jurassic Parking one than time travel.

Making the Wilder's not kingpins and the Minorus highly-advanced science instead of actual magicians was more offensive to me. And the fact that they were all a bunch of incompetent, manipulated idiots instead of individuals actively working toward their known plan is the worst.

I mean even if you are willing to do some dark shit for the greater good, how does sacrificing teenagers to find renewable energy even make sense? It makes the Pride look stupid and gullible.

Yeah I prefer the biologists angle since it seems much more fun, more possibilities in terms of bio engineering and stuff. I thought the Wilders were kingpins or is the real estate a real thing and not a front for gang stuff. And the asian lady may say the staff is "high tech science" but it's clearly magic and I honestly thought the show was implying that yes, it actually is magic and that nico and her mother are from a line of magicians or witches or sorceresses or something. I thought it was at the very least a meant to be ironic that the owners of a tech firm happen to be magicians which is both ironic and fitting at the same time.

ANd agree SOOOO much on the last part, gullible is even too nice for them. These are grown ass men and women that are approached by a stranger who tells them "kill person and I give you endless energy yeah" and they just up and believe him just like that, grownass men and women. What. And continue to believe him without questioning shit. The only I could believe doing that was the guy in prison who obviously will take any deal as soon as possible if it means getting out of prison, but the others? How.

Yeah that's fair since it's only been 10 episodes and it's a large ensemble so maybe he'll get his chance to shine later on. I mean since he's the only one without powers or a special item maybe they will do the comic book thing, but the show seems to imply that it's leaning in to the whole gangster thing with him calling up his dad's old partner and the using guns thing. Which I hope not because just being a gangster is super boring.

Yeah, that really bothered me too. This is one case where their attempt to be diverse backfired because they didn't set up Nico being into women in the slightest.

It's like... would it kill them to have at least shown Nico being conflicted over Alex and Karolina? Develop that slowly, and develop the actual plot in a faster pace, that's the correct way. Instead we have Nico all of a sudden being obsessed with Karolina and calling Alex "the little shit" which still feels like such a weird line to say even from her and all her gothy look.

It would have also been Jarring if Nico wasn't into girls and she was just kissed randomly. I am inclusive and stuff but if my friend kiss me like that out of the blue.. "I would be like what the fuck man we have to talk about boundaries." So just one the level who dealing with other people it seemed odd.

That is essentially what happens in the comic. Karolina goes in for the kiss, Nico steps back and asks, "What are you doing?" Karolina says if she's going too fast, Nico says she shouldn't even be going in that direction.

Huh, that's what I thought was going to happen in the show, like Nico was going to do her now staple "what the hell are you doing dude" and give Karolina one of her looks but then when she's like enjoying it I'm like what? Not even a "oh, uh I'm flattered but sorry no" type line?

In hindsight it seems like such an obvious ploy to increase the ratings or some shit and it just seems shallow.

So does that mean that Alex is a bad guy in the comics or... ? I thought, from the little I've read, that it was Chase who was the bad guy or at least wildcard that keeps changing his allegiance and doing shit.

Massive comic spoilers.
Yes. Basically, the Gibborim in the comics offer the Pride six spots in paradise. The obvious issue is that there are twelve of them. After Chase's parents accidentally get pregnant, the Pride decides that they will all have one child each and give the six spots to their kids. Years later, Alex discovers the Pride performing a sacrifice and later overhears the Deans and the Hayes (aliens and mutants respectively) talking about their plan to murder the human members of the Pride and grab the six spots for themselves, Molly, and Karolina.

Alex decides that he will save himself, his parents, Nico, and Nico's parents. He guides the Runaways to "accidentally" discover the sacrifice, convinces them to run away, helps Molly and Karolina discover their powers, and generally plans to have the Runaways defeat their parents so he can swoop in and take out the Pride.

Chase soooooort of teams up with the Gibborim way after that, but it's in a much different context with much more acceptable motivation.

But you make him sound sympathetic as well if he overhears talks of his family being killed and so wants to protect his family and Nico. While the killing others thing is kinda outright cold and evil he also has his own motivations. I was imagining more of an outright evil play.

Which I suppose means that... he could do that in the show as well if he feels those are the right reasons. But then again at the same time not really if mutants and aliens don't exist in this show. Well, we'll see depending on how they explain jonah.

I really enjoyed the comic series, but I thought the show was just alright. The biggest problem were the changes they made. I understand that you have to change things for an adaptation, but everyone they made was for the worse. So I'mma be making comic spoilers throughout this post.

They utterly ruined the Pride and the Gibborim. I understand what they were trying to do with the Pride, but they didn't need to be morally grey characters. And, to be blunt, they're fucking stupid. That first sacrifice being a messup was idiotic. There was clearly no need for the sacrifice to be that exact night, so why didn't Stein just say that he was having problems with the box? When it didn't work, why did he try to hide it when it was obvious Leslie would know? Making them more grounded also made them a lot less interesting. The show's Pride is essentially a bunch of tech and business gurus and nothing else. The comic's Pride consisted of time travelers, sorcerers, aliens, mutants, mad scientists, and criminals (okay, the Wilders didn't change much).

But I could have excused all that if the Gibborim didn't consist of one guy with glowy superpowers. The Gibborim in the comics are three giants with twelve fingers and twelve toes who want to wipe out all life on the planet so they can remake it as a utopia. They require a yearly sacrifice to regain their power and promise the Pride six spots in paradise and an enhancement of their abilities as a reward for doing this. Jonah is a massive disappointment in comparison.

I think the Runaways themselves were mostly okay. I don't see why they needed to add Amy into the show since the reveal of who killed her was more of a duh than anything else. I was honestly a little annoyed by them changing Molly's race which isn't something I'm usually annoyed by, but I think it was because I got the cast talking about how special and diverse LA was every single commercial break.

Stien didnt warn them about the box, because he had a tumor fucking up his thought process. And the giant(s) are in the hole

Nah I think it was just basically his pride not wanting to admit he made a mistake. Lol pun unintended but out there.

I dunno.

Potential future spoilers based on comic. We've seen Jonah receiving texts from someone that's implied to be the parents, but that could very well be Alex. And he could be the one that told Jonah about Amy knowing. There's no way it won't be really convoluted though.

So does that mean that Alex is a bad guy in the comics or... ? I thought, from the little I've read, that it was Chase who was the bad guy or at least wildcard that keeps changing his allegiance and doing shit.

There's so much that can be said about this so called Pride's incompetence and their apparent gullibility that one could write paragraphs about it, but I think you've stated most of what I've felt.

As for the kids they started out alright but... well it's funny. The story and plot move at such a snail's pace and nothing gets resolved, but then when it comes to the kids all of a sudden with the characters Nico goes from 0 to 60 lesbian obsessed with Karolina. It's like the fuck? They picked the wrong thing to move quickly with, they should have been quick about the actual plot.

The show started out slow. I get they wanted to develop the cast, both parents and kids, better than in the comics where the parents were rather one dimensional and the kids were obvious stereotypes with quippy dialogue, but the full season dragged.

Still, as for the laptop, and while the show is deviating from the comics, this is a potential spoiler that may still happen so click at your own risk:

Alex is screwing over the team for his own goals. In the comics he wanted the Giborrim's gifts for him, Nico, and their parents and was willing to screw over the rest of the group to do it. Ultimately the plan was to let the others see everything he already knew, let them behave naturally while building up their skills and abilities as a team through some natural hardship to later take down the parents, then use his own knowledge of them and their weaknesses to take them out. Yeah, convoluted and improbable (I mean, it didn't work after all), but that's comics for you, so anything odd from Alex may or may not be part of a larger plan.

I really doubt they'll do this in the show. Definitely not. That seems way too convoluted for the show and writers' level based on what we've seen.

Useless might be overstating it. It's more that within each couple, one of them is obviously the "bad guy." The comics had them all be equally evil.

Even then, that doesn't feel like the case. In an effort to make them seem sympathetic, the show just makes them out to be like doofusses. Shouldn't a secret organization have henchmen to collect the sacrifice for them, instead of them wondering around like in that hilariously stupid scene I mention?

And it's other things, like how stupid the robes are. Or how they could have been successful 15 times before when they seem so utterly incompetent with internal strife. And all the changing allegiances and backstabbing increases their incompetence. And how whatever this jonah is just as much an idiot if these are his generals or whatever. And so many other things.

People dislike Lunar Silver Star Harmony psp but I love it. Pros:

Easier than the original version

Lovely art and color.

Cons:

the little they do add from the original game is more of a detriment than a positive if anything.

But otherwise, it's a pretty fun game that's steeped with 90s anime rpg nostalgia. Even if you've never watched 90s anime or seen a 90s rpg, you'll still get that vibe from lunar silver star harmony but in a good way; it's quaint.

Shame they never did a re release for eternal blue, since I would have liked a psp (or vita) version of that one as well.

I haven't read the comics, though I remember wanting to in the last 5 years but never did get the series. I'm somewhat glad I didn't since judging by reaction to the show I'd probably end up disliking the show if I read the comics first and expected the plot of the comics.

It does kind of kill me how incompetent the Pride is in the show.

I was honestly wondering if it was parody when they had the 2 dads roaming the streets looking for a homeless dude to "sacrifice". And then when the homeless dude fights back and kicks their asses lol.

Or how at least one member of each couple is utterly useless.

I think it's really just victor stein's wife that seems completely useless. The others are stated to be skilled in their respective fields like technology, biology, lawyering and gangstering/real estate.

Stated at least.
