Interesting difference in reaction from the MSM. A school shooting happens, and the MSM is very eager to give angry pro-gun control advocates a microphone. It's very important that the country has a serious discussion about gun control.

Thailand has very strict laws against private ownership of weapons. As a result, only the military, police, and bad guys have them. There are less deaths attributed to guns than in the U.S. No school shootings. Few mass shootings of any kind. Which, of course, is good.
However, there are many more murders attributed to knives and beatings. And, bombings. Not good.

The bigger problem is how democracy suffers because of the armed strength of the government and police. They can get away with just about anything. In Thailand, it takes a long time, usually 4 to 7 years, for any opposition to gain enough public support to oust the corrupt officials. In 80 years, Thailand has had two free elections. though they were heavily influenced by corrupted voting. The rest of the time, there have been 20 coup dtats since 1932. Some successful and some violent.

In 229 years, while the U.S. had a civil war, there have been no coups. Why? Because the Second Amendment allows the populace to be armed.

While all these mass shootings in the U.S. are horrific, many thousands have died in Thai coups.

The founding fathers of the U.S.A. understood how governments can become corrupt and out of control. They understood the need for a strong civilian population to keep the government in check. The whole U.S. system of government is notable because of the checks and balances between the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches. They knew governments have a tendency to run amok.

If U.S. gun ownership is severed, what makes you think the government won't go off the rails?

Lent a friend $150 a couple weeks ago. She's a single mother in a pretty rough financial situation, so I told her she could take her time and that I wasn't in a hurry.
