They just want to do whatever the fuck they want to do by and large and have some of the thinnest skin ever. "This guy makes me mad? I'll shoot him." "My valentines day is shit? I'll just go out and kill whoever I see, I can grab a gun from the house." "What!? I'm going to prison for the rest of my life!? Now i'm sad...:(" That, I chalk up to utterly garbage parenting.

Possible? I'm not really sure where you're going with this.

It's simple.

If it's deemed condonable for an annual awards event to just coincidentally have all female winners one year (because their work showed deserving merit), then it should not cause alarm when all the winners happen to be male for the same reason the following year.

The people complaining don't want reason or equality, they want superiority by existence. I know few genuine feminists who think anything near what's being complained about. So, any form of common sense, like this, is useless on them.

Its pretty good for making more real money

For your average person with a mining rig, factoring in power costs, I think the usual net was like $6~10 a month in profit. The more money you have, the more money you make with Bitcoin, so... no, not really. Then, there's the idiots ruining their credit to take out loans/maxing out credit cards to stockpile GPUs to mine as though it'll help them not be in debt in any reasonable amount of time.

I can make 10 dollars a day mowing a lawn every day with less overhead cost if I really wanted to.

Lol
Not with mining
I turned 1k into 50k last year just holding

I mean, if you buy low and sell high you generally make money, but that concept isn't exclusive to bitcoin. That doesn't make it a good way to make more money, as is being shown by people currently losing money. The volatility of the crypto market makes it a poor investment at the best of times, realistically.

And yet, with that amount, I'm sure people who bought Google or Amazon stock early and held it for years would laugh at that cash you made.

Edit: Unless you're justifying it as a good way to make money solely by your own experience, which is honestly a rather self-centered outlook.

Yep, and it isn't even close really. ibuypower and cyberpower were selling pre-builts with tiny profit margins BEFORE the mining boom. Now they have to be losing money on every rig they sell.

For example, RX 580s are going for around $500 but are in rigs priced at $720. 1080TIs are going for $1200 on newegg but are also in high end pre-builts at $1800.

If you buy them from resellers, yeah, they'd be getting screwed.

The retailers, however, aren't hiking. Basically, while crypto-miners are running GPUs all day to make like $6, resellers are buying GPUs for $250~800 and reselling for $900~2k.

Long and short, for those that don't understand: nVidia and AMD are not making bonus bucks off this, Joe the Scalper is.

They're not working 80 hours a week for fun or simply because they're told to. They're working 80 hours a week to get the game out on time. Even if it sucks. I don't see them sitting around and wasting time. It's called crunch for a reason.

Getting a shitty game out for the deadline is generally preferable to missing out on a milestone and the possibility of getting the game cancelled. That's why games often release with issues.

That is where you overestimate people. Also, already touched on it. Simply put, the longer those 80 hour weeks carry on, the lower morale gets, the shittier the project gets. They're not wasting time, but being burnt out is a thing. Equivalence wise I could see staring at code, facedesking, yelling at people, a million "why doesn't it work?" scenarios, so on. While that carries on, people suddenly become less and less motivated to actually work in my experience, and more motivated to pretend to work.

When those are the requirements, I quickly see "crunch time" devolving in to "What is it that I can do to avoid being fired?"

The only thing I'm 'implying' is that game development is hard for everyone. Even for shitty games like Iron Man 2.

As someone who has done work in a variety of fields, though admittedly nothing like game development, this may be true... However, I can say one thing: Motivation is god in the workplace.

Construction is hard work, but you give people garbage pay and shit hours, and they work in the most halfassed way possible. They do what bare minimum they can to make the house not fall down around them, and that's about it. Apply the same basic idea to everything from cashiers to high-end management--though in their case, they can pass the garbage along to those under them.

So yes, they may have had stupid hours, but if the stories are true... This cost them time with their family, and cost them their steady jobs on this Iron Man 2 project. You can absolutely guarantee the staff wasn't at high morale, and thus not working as hard on the project. Just a realistic look for all the people acting like it's impossible to be lazy in a "hard work" field. As such, there is definitely lazy devs, and the work shows.
