Probably Super Metroid, time was I could routinely beat the game with 100% completion in around 1:45 to 1:50. Last time I played I was lucky to get in under the 3-hour mark, though.

I also got pretty darn good at Castlevania: Harmony of Despair; since I didn't have good internet, I had to play the game solo (which I hear is pretty respectable on Hard Mode).

Hand to God, the only time I ever successfully got 200 lightning dodges was when I came home drunk from a party and wasn't ready for bed yet. After years of never getting higher than 50 or so, I plopped right down and knocked it out on the first try.

And that stupid Chocobo Catcher (?) minigame birthed my habit of swearing viciously at video games when things aren't going my way. That game got so embedded in my muscle memory that I took a years-long hiatus from the game, played it again, got to the Chocobo Catcher level, and got the Sun Sigil on the first try.

Secret sun elemental in secret of mana is one I wanted to be true.

The 9th-level orbs dropped by Mana Fortress enemies and the super-charged spell animations you could occasionally trigger after raising an element past level 8 always made me feel like there was some hidden element or other great secret out there that I never found.

But the glitch for getting the 9th Sword Orb was pretty awesome. Though apparently it ran a risk of corrupting your save (or at least that's what Nintendo Power warned, iirc).

I'm not entirely sure how you were able to spin that from 'a general walking in at the last second and recognizing the mistake is the only thing that prevented a nuclear strike.'

To be honest, I'm kinda baffled by the upsurge in defense of the Watchmen movie by the normally hyper-critical internet in recent years. Must be an aftereffect of the DCEU, kind of like how Star Wars Episode 3 is treated; 'it's not the worst, so it's therefore the best.'

Even then this point doesn't make sense. I dont think it is entirely stupid to think that the American government would wait to see who attacked before they attacked back. Why would they immediately attack Russia and then risk further retaliation from Russia with all of its thousands of nuclear weapons, if Russia wasnt involved at all?

I can't remember the particulars, but there's a real-life horror story involving a former president's cabinet (Ford or Carter era, I think) being seconds away from calling in a nuclear retaliation based on what turned out to be a training video, which was thankfully noticed by a general who walked into the room at the last second. This is historically not a scenario where the powers that be can afford to wait around for all the facts to come in.

No problem :) Though while this might just be my personal preference talking, I wouldn't rely on him unless you're absolutely stumped (or the pic is deliberately vague, like the forest path one). Because there's definitely a wealth of satisfaction to be found finding them all on your own, either by recognizing a landmark and trying to line up the perspective until you find the telltale glow, or by exploring the world and stumbling upon them.

Finding the memories was actually some of the most fun I had exploring in the game, which is high praise, considering that BotW is my top ten all time personal games. I think the only exploration-wise moment that topped it was heading blind through the sandstorm in the SW corner of the Gerudo Desert, expecting to merely find the last Leviathan skeleton, and finding the skeleton and a Shrine and the final Great Fairy all in the same jackpot of a location.

Honestly, it is.

On the surface it is, but the solution the movie puts forth is more flawed. The alien was a singular, undefinable event in NYC that basically just caused half the population to seizure to death, which would allow immediate eyewitness access (as well as visual proof of the source of the event) shortly thereafter. On a personal level, it only put the nail in the coffin for me as far as the movie was concerned. After roughly a third of the way through the movie, I realized that the artistry that made the novel so good wasn't going to translate well to the big screen, and that the movie wasn't really bringing anything to life as far as imagination goes, since the novel was already a visual medium. So the only thing really keeping me going through the whole flick was wondering how cool the alien was going to turn out in movie form.

Like Hollis Mason says in the book, some faces just go out of style - I can't off the top of my head think of any current actor who has that 50's-60's matinee idol look necessary to pull of a book-faithful Ozymandias. But Matthew Goode was a like a deliberate 180 for the character, and him not having the physical build is the lesser of the issue. In the books, Ozzy carries himself and genuinely thoughtful, caring, and burdened by the world, and when he turns out to be the 'villain,' you get the vibe that Superman himself has gone to the dark side; in the movie, he oozes such smarminess from the outset that I can't imagine anyone was surprised at the reveal.

He has a pretty arrogant plan. I'd say that "caring" is less of a good emotion than "smarmy" to lead us to that.

I knew that was a poor choice of words and would get picked apart as soon as I posted it, which is why I edited it.

Yeah it wasn't that great. There are a lot of things that I disliked about it. It really is "The Last Stand" of it's "trilogy".

It's better than Last Stand, at least - I never in my life want to revisit Last Stand, but there's plenty of parts in Apocalypse that I'd like to see again, like the Quicksilver scene and Pookie's speech.

The thing that bugged me the most about the movie was the total lack of consequence; the mansion gets Lego'd back together and Charles is perfectly chummy with Erik after Erik laid waste to the planet and murdered thousands of people with his magnetic tantrum. The McAvoy / Fassbender dynamic has been the highlight of the rebooted movies, but honestly this takes a lot of steam out of it going forward, should the actors continue reprising the roles; what can Charles possibly call him on in the future if he's going to let that slide?

Yeah, I still lament the absence of spear animations. One of my favorite mods is Heavy Armory, which adds in weapon types like Spears, Glaives, Tridents, things like that into the various weapon grades (steel, glass, ebony, etc). They're great to have an add a ton of variety, but since they're stuck using the two-handed sword animation, there's a lot of room for improvement. Just imagine if the modder had those spear animations to work with. PC modders probably made their own of course, but since consoles can't have the script extender, I wouldn't know.

And somehow the baffling feature where two NPCs will literally fight to the death over a scrap of iron ore you drop in front of them made the cut.

I also still remember that Bethesda week thing where the developers made a bunch of stuff for fun. One guy made working spears with animations but it wasn't put in the game. Look at all this cool shit they made but most of it never saw the light of day. :(

That video pissed me off the moment I saw it all those years ago, because I knew most if not all of that stuff would never make it into the game, even though they still had all the patches and DLC yet to be released. Ultimately I was proven wrong in that a good half of that stuff did make it into the game, but most of it was pretty flawed:

Housebuilding via Hearthfire: a huge bait-and-switch letdown for me personally, wherein you just sink time and materials into an uninspired cookie-cutter house, over which the only creative control you have is which side rooms to build. A smaller scale of Fallout 4's settlement-building is what this DLC should have been.

Ranged and Magic Killcams: cool, but broken. Ranged ones miss a noteworthy number of times. Magic Killcams are the worst, because they don't scale properly with difficulty settings; it always thinks you're playing on Adept and treats damage output accordingly. So when you're playing on Legendary, you can get locked into up to 2-3 false killcams before you get the killcam that actually kills the enemy. This wouldn't be that bad on its own, but there's this extra fun bug where when you get a magic killcam after doublecasting, there's a very high chance that your hands just...stop working. Seriously. You have to mash the trigger buttons for a few seconds before you can get function back in your hands to charge a spell again. Almost ruins what was already the game's weakest combat form.

Mounted combat: a good addition, but unless you're using Shadowmere or Arvak (the latter being one of the additions from Gamejam that I have zero complaints about), your horse will probably die beneath you before you can manage to land enough hits to kill your enemy. One of those features that really needs mod enhancement to be worthwhile. Dragonriding is mostly only good for instant-time fast travel.

Goblins, which eventually became Rieklings: good addition, fun enemies. Only minor complaint is that too many dungeons on Solstheim revolve around them, and they kind of epitomize Bethesda's patented design approach of 'throw random shit all over the place.'

Kinect Shouts: no opinion, since I never had Kinect. Seemed a cool concept, though.

Enhanced underwater visuals: no complaints here, this was a welcome addition.

Werebear: nice addition, makes for very tough enemies. Still miffed that you couldn't play as one.

Vamp Lord, Werewolf perk tree: no complaints here either, great additions that gave extended life to the werewolf power's usefulness.

...but it still burns me that they never worked in spear combat, mixed spellcasting, and the giant mudcrab.

Obviously I was already familiar with BP through Civil War. I've avoided spoilers for the movie, but was already aware of his sister and her general abilities / personality, and aware in a general sense of Wakandan tech through the trailers (things like the cloaking dome aren't exactly an original concept, after all). The other warrior characters didn't exactly need a ton of backstory to have their IW roles understood.

I wanted to see BP in the theaters, but the past few months haven't gone very smoothly. They're still showing it at my theater along with IW, but since it's coming out on home release in a week or two anyway, I figured I'd just wait and buy the bluray.

You should be okay without GotG 2, though if you pay attention to the dialogue in IW it'll spoil GotG 2's big twist, should you ever wish to go back and revisit it. You'd be at a much greater detriment if you haven't seen GotG 1, though.

Yeah this isn't the first time I've heard something along these lines, that the studios are the ones who actually ruined the whole thing and that Jackson was very unhappy with it.

I guess I should start shifting my blame to the studios and not PJ himself.

Long story short, Del Toro was directing, Jackson was producing. At a certain point in the production, Del Toro left over creative differences or something. For reasons, all the work that had been produced up until that point was scrapped when Jackson grudgingly took the helm. Working from scratch and with a crunched schedule, Jackson and company could not do any of the kind of preproduction they'd had with LotR and were forced to literally make up things as they went along.
