Completely unrelated. Through a friend I got into contact with nameless heavy metal singer who also directs horror movies whose initials are RZ. We texted back and forth a lot, he liked my fucked up sense of humor. Anyway he eventually offered me a gig going on his tours and shooting concert video, I was hoping to use the connection to do movie stuff so I jumped at the offer, mailed a resignation letter to the helicopter company and found and trained my replacement. Now a week before this country boy from the south was about hop on a plane to California, this girl I had been kind of seeing shows up to my house with an ultrasound. Called Rob and told him I couldnt do it. Three years later Im here, married and raising a family. Point still stands that connections in that line of work are EVERYTHING. I was a sperm away from touring the world. But on a personal note I wouldnt change a thing. Babies are the best when youre ready. I was like fuck that. But a few months later one of my Professors has been contacted by a helicopter company that does tv news, commercial, and movie contracts. He sent them to me and long story short for over a decade I did breaking news video from a helicopter. Car chases, fires, plane crashes, manhunts, tornado damage, etc. you name it and I shot it from the air. I had my own office at the airport and just hung out there waiting for a phone call. Which was cool because I just goofed off all day. I even had a futon and Xbox in the office. So yeah make contacts.
