After that I was pretty cool with the department head and a contract with the local CBS affiliate came up and the company that got the contract reached out to the department head for anyone who may want the job. I said fuck yeah. Plenty of close calls. Bird strikes, mechanical issues, other aircraft not paying attention or communicating, etc. Crossing dark mountains at night just to put a wrecked 18 wheeler on the 11 o clock news in another state. Shit like that. I guess what I hated most was practicing autorotations. Thats where you go up as high as possible and cut power to the engine and drop like a stone to about 1000 feet off the ground and pull power back in.
