First Round

Redskins WR Julio Jones (1st overall) - Regardless of how the rest of the offseason plays out or the team's rookie class ratings, the selection of Jones might have taken the Redskins out of the gutter to a possible worst-to-first scenario. Once Randy Moss retired, this team, along with the Broncos, have usually trotted out the saddest group of WRs. Coupled with the trade with the Bills, the once impossible-looking dream of having formidable pass catchers was realized in less than 24 hours when they made their selection at the top of the 2014 NFL Draft. That defense has stayed stout, the starting OL is as good as anybody's, and the aging HB Kevin Jones still gets the job done, so why not the Redskins for NFC East champs, and why not Julio Jones for Offensive Rookie of the Year?

Browns HB Mark Ingram (16th overall) - This franchise has had just one HB that I would say was great for them, Rudi Johnson (recently retired as a Viking). Unfortunately, War decided after the inaugural season that he was going to pass 80% of the time (then Browns QB Aaron Rodgers led the league in passing for what seemed to be three or four seasons straight). More humiliating for Johnson was that the Browns next GM, stuntman, decided to bench Johnson for the younger Carl Stewart, and Johnson was never the full-time starter after S5, which was coincidentally Rodgers' final season as a Brown. Since then, Stewart and former Broncos 1st rounder LenDale White could not get it done, and the Browns offense crumbled without Johnson or Rodgers despite still having Top 5 WR Steve Smith. With the Browns resetting at the HB position (Roberts and Starks have 0 career carries despite being on the Browns for five combined seasons) and the interior OL, I think this fresh start might equate to the Browns having their first true franchise back.

Bengals DT Michael Brockers (27th overall) - After the defense was gutted from retirements in the later yazzy years, the Bengals D had a resurgent year carrying an inconsistent offense to the playoffs and a playoff win. If there's one weak link, it is the severely aging DT corps whose starters are 35 and 36 years old. I don't know if Brockers is going to start, but he's in as ideal of a situation as he could find himself in for both the present and future.

Favorite Draft Picks in Each Round

It's self-explanatory, but how I determine my choices is not. For the most part, I look for in the early rounds for perfect team fits based on historical production, a visible succession plan to starting job (or immediate starter), players who might be the missing piece to the puzzle, and selections that just make me think, "That guy's going to have a long, productive career here." For later rounds, I look for players who most likely have a chance of sticking around for a long-ish career for a myriad of reasons.

Full Disclosure: My interests lie in the defensive side of the ball, so I'm more biased towards defenders.

The deadline to sign rookies will be noon ET on Thursday, May 31st. Should you idle, I will sign all of your rookies to the deals that they are asking. If you happen to have roster space issues precluding me from doing so, I will prioritize players that fill roster holes then sign players in ascending order from when they were taken in the draft until I hit the roster limit.

I will make myself available to do live draft pick signings, but we will have to schedule in advance. You may notice that the prices the rookies are asking for are all over the place. When this game came out, the rookie wage scale wasn't in effect. The rookies' asking price is based on a combination of position, skill (specifics are unknown until signed), and maybe even when they were taken in the draft (if so, it has a minor effect).

Signing Draft Picks

Quite a few teams have done it already, but now's the time to get those draftees' signatures and have them suit up for your squad. It is essentially just like signing your own free agents, but you don't have to worry about holdouts/franchise tags, and you typically have far fewer players to sign.

There are a few things you need to keep in mind. One, you will not know the overall ratings until they are signed. That is an in-game mechanic and not something by my design. Two, the desired deals for each player, in terms of length, is based on where they were taken. It is as follows:

Top 5 - Six years
6-10 - Five years
11-32 - Four years
2nd-4th rounds - Three years (will be eligible for RFA)
5th-7th rounds - One year

Once again, you do not have to offer them their exact deals and can change their length, but I advise you to sign them to the length that they ask for because if you change the length, they might ask for considerably more money.

Along with draft grades, Madden mentions a team's first pick along with what they deem to be their best pick. More often than not, they are the same player, but sometimes they are different. Much like with draft grades, take these with a grain of salt. Having a different player mentioned as your first than your best does not mean the former's overall rating was worse or anything of that nature. Here are those players:

Along with draft grades, Madden mentions a team's first pick along with what they deem to be their best pick. More often than not, they are the same player, but sometimes they are different. Much like with draft grades, take these with a grain of salt. Having a different player mentioned as your first than your best does not mean the former's overall rating was worse or anything of that nature. Here are those players:
