Topic | I hate AMAs |
dancer62 05/03/18 10:08:24 PM #3 | I get a laugh out of the misuse of the acronym for Against Medical Advice. It often fits. --- If ballet was easy, it would be pointe-less |
Topic | You buy games but not play them?! |
dancer62 05/03/18 9:36:22 PM #30 | Absolutely: for several reasons! 1) Games (notably Nintendo but a few others), significant in videogame history, but not worth playing 2) Games that I may eventually need for comparison when I'm writing an article, answering a question, or something. Any Monster Hunter clone would fit. 3) Games that sound interesting, were on sale for cheap, that I might play someday, no hurry 4) Games, unappealing but highly recommended, bought cheap, that I might actually grit my teeth, hold my nose, and try, just to see what all the fuss is about 5 . Games that I'll gamble a few bucks on, just because. 6. Games that I intend to play but got shuffled to the back of the stack for some reason --- If ballet was easy, it would be pointe-less |

dancer62 05/02/18 4:13:44 PM #3 | Divorced --- If ballet was easy, it would be pointe-less |
Topic | What should I buy as a project car? |
dancer62 05/02/18 4:10:26 PM #3 | AE86. Rear drive, conventional layout, Easy to tune. A Celica is a better bet than MR2. Same motor, but accessible to work on. Mid-engine is fun but hell for maintenance. Just put a new cam belt and water pump on my turbo Celica. Hondas have interference motors, spin off the timing belt and poof! goes the motor. A 30-40 year old car for a daily driver is a crapshoot regardless of how good a mechanic you are. It's good to have a newer beater car for a grocery-getter. --- If ballet was easy, it would be pointe-less |
Topic | If Jimmy Carter decided to run for a second Presidential term in 2020 |
dancer62 05/02/18 2:06:47 PM #4 | I read that there was a Jimmy Carter billboard in Mississippi during the Obama years that said: "I'm no longer the worst President!" How much truer today? --- If ballet was easy, it would be pointe-less |
Topic | I don't understand why I cant get a girlfriend at 28. Just texted and no reply. |
dancer62 05/02/18 11:45:12 AM #5 | Thinking about boyfriends I have had, and men I wouldn't date, or wouldn't date more than once, biggest turnoffs regarding otherwise attractive guys: Not saying any of these apply to your situation, just food for thought. any hints of weirdness neediness/high maintenance doesn't respect privacy/personal space dogmatism not smart enough not enough in common wimpiness egotism doesn't listen bragging controlling religiousity no sense of humor/sick sense of humor I have a neighbor, sweet guy but always underfoot. I had a husband underfoot for years, no thanks! Life must be easier for lesbians. --- If ballet was easy, it would be pointe-less |
Topic | Convince me to buy the robot Labo... |
dancer62 05/01/18 5:02:31 PM #4 | Great investment! In a couple of years, it ought to be worth as much or less than the junk plastic clip-on golf clubs, tennis racquets, and steering wheels for the wii-mote, closed out at everything-for-a-dollar-stores. A fantastic opportunity to get in on the trailing edge of technology! --- If ballet was easy, it would be pointe-less |

dancer62 05/01/18 12:15:00 AM #3 | Even better: Battle Beyond the Stars. Cheap Roger Corman remake of Seven Samurai/Magnificent Seven in space! inappropriately starring John-boy Walton. dancer62 04/30/18 11:12:09 PM #6 | Yes, pretty much. 7 of the 10 choices. And I appreciate the sly reference to Satanism as one form of Christianity. Abrahamic religions are responsible for most atrocities. --- If ballet was easy, it would be pointe-less |

Topic | what do you most often use your computer for? |
dancer62 04/27/18 12:19:23 PM #13 | My home computer, just for work, printing out forms and stuff. My stupid "smart" phone is pretty horrible as a telephone, but okay for email, internet browsing, and ordering on Amazon and Ebay. --- If ballet was easy, it would be pointe-less |
Topic | Anyone else feel like we have way too much media to consume? |
dancer62 04/27/18 7:46:50 AM #6 | I gotta love this decade. I have access to books, movies, music, games, from around the world that I can access online or order to be delivered. That's a huge difference from 50 years ago, the paperback rack at the corner drugstore and black & white Saturday night movies on the local TV station. And driving downtown, finding a parking space, and feeding the parking meter to visit the public library. --- If ballet was easy, it would be pointe-less |

Topic | Which one of these items would you choose? |
dancer62 04/25/18 6:51:32 AM #9 | I'm confused. I can't have more than one of each item, or more than one item from the list? Is this in (theoretical) real life, or for my Bag Of Holding in a Roberta Williams game? If a King's Quest or Infocom game, by the usual Insane Troll Logic, the most useless and absurd item is most important. In real life, one can of Spam doesn't go very far. I won't give up my teddy bears. A ban on Ouisge is not a real problem, I can get brandy instead. My jar of marbles and Magic Eight Ball I could live without. OTOH, the magnetic compass is vital for setting my gyrocompass. --- If ballet was easy, it would be pointe-less |

Topic | Sometimes I wish playing with dolls as an adult was normal |
dancer62 04/24/18 12:53:32 AM #84 | I guess my point is, there's a wide range of "normal". My muffler shop thought it unusual that I wanted a performance muffler.. I like to hear when to shift, being able to richen the mixture for a bit more performance is a plus, too. Apparently not typical of older ladies, in their experience. Similarly, in my peer group, others with interests in gardening, cooking, knitting; a few golfers, a few that drive stick shift, no other pilots, mechanics, sports car enthusiasts, martial artists. Am I "abnormal"? Not really. So, if you want dolls, go dolls. --- If ballet was easy, it would be pointe-less |

I was too old (thought I was as a teenager!) for Barbies when they came out in 1959, but now I have a fair collection of them. I'll eventually pass them on to my granddaughter. Some reflect my other interests, Ballerina Barbie, Celtic Barbie, Race Driver Barbie, Golfing Bratz, etc. I also have models of cars I drive and planes I fly. --- If ballet was easy, it would be pointe-less |

dancer62 04/21/18 12:29:30 AM #23 | Well, they're collectible, but I can't imagine any achieving the stature of a favorite. Rad Racer is playable, and less obnoxious than most. --- If ballet was easy, it would be pointe-less |
Topic | lol, I got a scam phone call saying the IRS will arrest me |
dancer62 04/20/18 5:22:09 PM #16 | Got one of those "IRS" calls several years ago, I'm ashamed to admit that it took me a few minutes to figure out it was a scam. OTOH, got another of those "extended warranty" scam letters today, approved for another 100,000 miles. It doesn't say which car: my 36 year old P-type Supra or my 31 year old Celica. I wish it wasn't a scam, be nice to have major repairs covered if I blow up the Yamaha turbo engine in the Celica. --- If ballet was easy, it would be pointe-less |

My electric Hot Pot is faster for boiling water, but for tea or rice it's easier to just heat water on the stove than to get out the Hot Pot, make space for it on the countertop, and plug it in. For ramen, I use the microwave For demonstrations in cooking classes, the Hot Pot is handy for boiling water on a tabletop in a classroom. --- If ballet was easy, it would be pointe-less |
