TopicWhy aren't you buying more new games?
dancer62
04/16/18 12:54:52 AM
#4
Bad options, like a lot of recent polls.

Mostly, there are very few games that I can be sure are worth paying full price for. Those few I will preorder, or import if necessary to get a physical copy.

Otherwise, I can wait for a sale, or used.

Or even a flash sale for digital, under $5 and only if I have memory space.

And I have a huge backlog, it's not imperative to buy new games.

So: all of the above?

Checking two or three times is smart. I also check the kitchen two or three times before leaving the house. I have left the oven on in the past, and the coffeepot, it pays to check.

Flying, I follow the appropriate checklists. I guess if I made a checklist for the house, rather than relying on memory and not getting distracted, I'd only have to check things once.

OTOH, worrying about worrying about things is circular. Check, touch for tactile feedback, and go on.

i live within my means, and im a responsible and productive member of society so no.

you all wanna know the 3 keys to not being permanently poor in the US?

1. Graduate highschool
2. dont have kids out of wedlock
3. get a job

statistically speaking, if you do these 3 things, you have over a 99% chance of not being permanently poor

Sure. It living paycheck to paycheck, isn't exactly poor. Not in my book. And I know a good chunk of military members who follow those theee rules and have an even worse time than I do when air comes to money. That being said, some of them are really bad with money. But a lot just have bills and debts to pay off...

i mean if all we gotta do is give anecdotal evidence then i know a bunch of guys who did all 3 of those things and they are totally fine. hmmm, that added absolutely nothing of substance to the conversation.

and it doesnt matter what your definition of poor is, because it actually has a definition:

poor
poor,pr/
adjective: poor; comparative adjective: poorer; superlative adjective: poorest

1. lacking sufficient money to live at a standard considered comfortable or normal in a society.

in American society it is considered "normal" and "comfortable" to be able to raise a family and plan for your retirement, meaning that so long as you follow those 3 rules, you have over a 99% chance of accomplishing both of those things.

I wouldn't say absolutely nothing, but whatever... anyway, 99% seems way to high... That being said, maybe it's not the definition of poor, but what "American society considers normal" that needs to change...

American society thinks raising a family and having a comfortable retirement is normal. Why in the fuck would that need to change? That is the bare minimum level expected for people who put in the bare minimum required effort.

Retired. Grad degree, working professional all my life- but- mostly nonprofits, and a lot of pro bono work.

Living mostly on Social Security, teach a few classes, cheap apartment, main car is an $800 beater, two 30+ year old sports cars stashed away that I maintain myself, my main luxury is airplane rental for flying hours.

So.. yes and no, monthly check to monthly check, try to maintain some reserve, poor by a lot of standards, should I have been more mercenary when working?

Actually rugs are usually fairly expensive, and you can get comfortors for less.

In fact, to truly reduce noise, buy a bunch of cheap pillows and a few comfortors. place the pillows on your floor then cover them with the comfortors. You want themostly flat pillows not the super fluffy ones. You are not going to be sleeping on these pillows, so go for cheap (you can get pillows for 1$ each or so).

You also don't need to cover your whole floor, just the parts the cat can jump on, specifically around your bed. This can mean only getting like 10-15 pillows depending how your bed is situated. Also only means 2-3 comfortors (you can do it with sheets/blankets etc that you already have extra as well.

Not only does this stop the sound of the cat pounding around the room and jumping off your bed. But it feels incredible on your feet when you get up....

Nice. I do like to scatter rag rugs around. They're cheap, colorful, good insulation, feel good on the feet, and the cat will like them too.

The "War On Drugs" has not solved drug abuse, but has created huge profits to fund gang warfare.

On the other hand, we can be sure that the news media glorifying school shootings and making celebrities out of the shooters most certainly inspires the handful of bitter, angry, disturbed, estranged students in each school to consider copycat behavior, hey?

It's much more fun to blame guns, blame the police, blame video games.

The Red Cross helped with a presentation on "Go Bags", what to pack if you have to evacuate. I also had the class make simple camper's stoves from soda cans, for boiling water in emergencies, making soup, etc.

Land Sharks? Hot Hail? Angry Birds? Zombie Apocalypse? Seek shelter.

Fire? Flood? Collapsing buildings? Evacuate.

Earthquake? Alien Air Raid? Collapsing infrastructure? Stay or go, depending on how long to restore power, water, sewage disposal.

I used the Sharknado movies, and the old Charleton Heston classic, Omega Man, as teaching aids. Fun class.
