A mother and her three-year-old daughter have been killed in India after the woman was bitten by a snake.

Not realising she had been attacked, the woman began breastfeeding her child. Both died before they could reach a hospital.

The news comes the same day as the World Health Organization declared snake bites a "global health priority".

Between 81,000 and 138,000 people are killed by snake bites each year, with around half of all deaths in India.

How big is the problem?
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), around five million snake bites occur each year, although venom is only injected in just over half of cases.

From blindness to amputations, hundreds of thousands of people are left with permanent disability after being attacked by snakes. The WHO describes such cases as among the most neglected tropical diseases.

The majority of snake bites take place in densely populated areas of sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia and South-East Asia, where humans and snakes often come into contact.

Poor, rural populations are at particular risk from snake bites, as they often lack access to antidotes or may turn to traditional treatments in the absence of modern medical facilities.

Many of the worst affected countries do not have their own facilities for producing antivenoms, which must be quickly administered to prevent or halt the damage caused by toxins.

The World Health Assembly's new resolution will ensure that countries follow a common strategy in the prevention, treatment and management of snake attacks.

What happens when a venomous snake bites?
Venomous snakes generally fall into two categories.

Snakes with fixed fangs usually use neurotoxic venom which affects the nervous system and breathing, while other species have folded fangs which are only used when attacking prey or threats. Their toxin usually destroys skin tissue and causes internal bleeding.

quite a sad and horrifying coincidence that this occurred on the same day the world health organization declares snake bites a global priority.

PHILADELPHIA A Pennsylvania school district can allow transgender students to continue using bathrooms and locker rooms that correspond with their sexual identity, a federal appeals court panel ruled Thursday.

A three-judge panel heard extended arguments in the case before conferring for less than 30 minutes and ultimately affirming a lower court decision refusing to halt the Boyertown School Districts transgender student bathroom policy.

There have been at least two other federal appeals court rulings in favor of transgender students who have made arguments that districts barring them from using the facilities designated for their stated gender violated their right to equal protection.

Earlier this week, a federal circuit judge in Virginia sided with transgender teen Gavin Grimm, who claimed a school board violated his rights when it banned him from using boys bathrooms.

Type Russia collusion into a Google search, and the search engine will try to guess the next word youll type. The first of those is delusion.

Accept the suggestion, and youll find yourself in a conservative rabbit hole. The first result is a New York Post opinion piece with the headline, Democrats, get set to lose your collusion delusions. The next result, from the conservative site American Greatness, reads Meowing Media Fuel Mass Delusion of Russian Collusion. Several other results on the first page including one from a bodybuilding forum come from other conservative outlets approvingly quoting an apparent catalyst of the phrases popularity: Roger Stone, speaking on Fox News.

Google auto-completes search terms based on popularity, so its likely that Russia collusion delusion is driven by people turning to Google to learn more about Stones phrase.

For Francesca Tripodi, a postdoctoral scholar at Data & Society and assistant professor in sociology at James Madison University, the search results are a powerful tell of a phenomenon she set out to document. The collusion delusion results are seeking a conservative audience which is exactly the demographic that would be more likely to search for the phrase in the first place. No one in the mainstream media has said collusion delusion,' she said, but that phrase has been used [by] Tucker Carlson.

Her study was published in a Data & Society report last week.

Tripodis research began with a question that a lot of non-Trump supporters have asked since 2016: How did Trump win? That question led to another: How do conservatives find the news they read? And that question led her to an ethnographic project tracking how a group of white, conservative, evangelical residents of Virginia found, read and researched the news. The people she interviewed were often educated and middle class, and read a variety of news sources.

Despite a popular idea that the conservative medias core audience passively absorbs whatever theyre told, Tripodis research found that plenty will Google something theyve read or seen, often with the intention of fact-checking or challenging their own beliefs. A liberal and conservative might set out to research the same topic, but based on the keyword, Google is giving you drastically different information, Tripodi said.

Googling it has become the news equivalent of do your own research. But neither Google, nor search terms, are purely neutral. Even in the face of research and due diligence, Tripodi wrote in her study, voters can walk away from Google armed with alternative news and alternative facts.

And, her research indicates, conservative media along with bad actors and extreme groups looking to amplify their message to the mainstream right have gotten really, really good at anticipating what their audience will search for and seeding their information to show up, prominently, as a result. The very searches meant to fact-check ones own beliefs can end up simply enforcing them particularly for the audience Tripodi studied, who were unified with their distrust of the mainstream media.

The conservatives Tripodi interviewed seemed unaware that the search terms they chose might not be giving them the results they were expecting. One person told her they believed Google search results were a consensus of opinion on a topic; others described it as a neutral platform that provides access to information. Another interviewee, according to Tripodi, did not consider how her returns were tied to her own search practices or Googles algorithmic ordering of information. Rather, she used her Google returns to validate her claims, as though Google failing to return an alternative perspective meant that one did not exist.

this is quite enlightening as to how people can get sucked into fake news.

She doesn't understand that free markets are all about the bottom line, and offshore drilling can be safe when done properly, but disastrous if corners are cut to save money (which is often the case in her economic ideology). So claiming to care about the environment is either ignorance or facetiousness, because without regulation the chances of an accident as a result of cutting corners goes up. Kind of like fracking.

She's early 20s, so probably still in her undergraduate. She doesn't have real life experience and probably is just a mimic of her parent's political ideologies. One can try and pressure their political party to change, but that's like trying to swim upstream. I think she just hasn't explored her beliefs too critically yet.

https://www.vox.com/first-person/2018/5/23/17381960/millennial-conservatives-climate-change

As a young conservative woman in my early 20s, Im often met with surprise when people learn that environmentalism is a top political concern for me.

Conservatives have been slow to address environmental challenges, even though many environmental solutions fit well within a belief in free market solutions. The economic and national security benefits of prioritizing climate change are issues that the GOP can and should embrace; theyre consistent with their ideology. While the left and right may have different reasons behind prioritizing eco-friendly reforms, such reforms are in our collective best interest.

I am not alone in this thinking. Its no secret that young voters, including young conservative voters, are increasingly concerned about environmental issues. A new poll from Pew Research confirms it, finding that along with holding opinions on climate change that differ from previous generations, upward of 80 percent of millennial voters favor increasing alternative forms of energy like wind and solar. The same study found that just 44 percent of millennial Republicans favor an increase in offshore drilling, vastly fewer than the 75 percent of baby boomers and older generations who support it.

Though I am conservative, I was raised in a progressive household and didnt come into conservatism until around my junior year of high school, when I was exposed to philosophy that emphasized personal responsibility but encouraged philanthropy. I have always believed that we should look out for others and care for our communities in my ideological shift, I realized that we dont need government to incentivize such behavior. I now believe that when it comes to government, good intentions rarely produce desired results.

My father works in the solar industry as a construction manager for a nonprofit organization with a mission to make solar energy accessible to people of all income levels. Growing up, I was able to see firsthand the advantages clean energy can bring to our country, including energy independence, a growing economy, and steady job creation.

While few millennials identify as conservative, those of us who do feel alienated and left behind by our partys refusal to address concerns such as climate and conservation. The Republican Party needs to make clear that climate change is happening and is a priority. When and if the party shifts course, Im sure it will face backlash from older voters change is rarely comfortable. But this change is necessary if the party hopes to expand its reach within the younger demographic.

she's right, but i wouldn't count on republicans to change their tune anytime soon.

A US judge has ruled that federal law protects a transgender student's right to use the bathroom corresponding to his gender identity.

In the latest legal twist to a long-running case, a Virginia court rejected Gloucester County school board's bid to dismiss a lawsuit filed by Gavin Grimm, a student who has since graduated.

Mr Grimm sued after his school barred him from using the men's bathroom.

He said he felt an "incredible sense of relief" after the ruling.

"After fighting this policy since I was 15 years old, I finally have a court decision saying that what the Gloucester County School Board did to me was wrong and it was against the law," he said.

Mr Grimm's case has been the most prominent in the debate over which bathroom transgender people should be permitted to use, a debate that has come to the forefront of LGBT rights over the past few years.

This decision does not completely end his case, but the judge on Tuesday ordered the school board to arrange a settlement conference within 30 days.

"The district court's ruling vindicates what Gavin has been saying from the beginning," said Joshua Block, an attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union.

US district judge Arenda Wright Allen's ruling said the school's argument was "resoundingly unpersuasive", and she refused to throw out Mr Grimm's claim as the school had requested.

Mr Grimm sued Gloucester High School in July 2015, saying its policy of making him use a separate unisex bathroom violated the following:

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, which bars discrimination in education on the basis of sex
Fourteenth Amendment to the US Constitution, which rules no state can deny "equal protection of its laws" to any of its people.
The school had initially allowed him to use the men's bathroom after he explained he had transitioned to male.

But several adults complained about the the move, and the school's principal said he would from then on have to use newly installed single-person bathrooms.

The lawsuit made its way up to the US Supreme Court after a series of cases in Virginia.

The country's highest court agreed to take the suit after an appeals court ruled in favour of Mr Grimm following a directive from then-President Barack Obama, saying federal law protects transgender bathroom rights.

But the US Supreme Court reversed its decision after President Donald Trump rescinded his predecessor's guidelines.

i doubt any kids even cared about him using the bathroom.

A viral video involving Houston police officers is now under investigation after an officer was recorded ordering four individuals to exit a vehicle.

In a video recorded by Denee Harris, an officer can be heard over the loudspeaker saying, "Hands up! Put your hands up. Over your head! Pretend like we're going to shoot you."

"Why would he say that?" Harris said in the video.

Another officer confiscated one of the passenger's crutches, throwing it on the ground, and an officer can be seen driving the vehicle away from the scene.

Harris is heard commenting in the video, and later told Storyful News, "I was so scared. I didn't know how it was going to end."

The reason for the traffic stop and detentions were not immediately clear.

HPD told Eyewitness News that they are aware of the video and are looking into the video and circumstances of it.

can't link article because it shows video of dildo. you can find it on http://www.nj.com if you are so inclined to read or watch it.

Of all the outlandish claims in the Mountainside police lawsuit, the most memorable has been the alleged frequent attacks with a large blue dildo, called, naturally, "Big Blue."
Now, video has emerged of one such supposed attack.

The video, taken inside Mountainside Police headquarters and obtained by NJ Advance Media, shows the two officers at the center of the lawsuit.

In it, Lt. Thomas Murphy (white shirt) appears to encourage Det. Sgt. Andrew Huber (blue shirt) as he smacks a man inside police headquarters with Big Blue.

In an additional video obtained by NJ Advance Media, Murphy also filmed himself as Santa, explaining various Christmas "gifts" Santa would be giving certain Mountainside officers.

Murphy ends the video with a final gift for a certain officer, this time a large flesh-colored dildo.
The video and the dildo attacks are among the many, many antics alleged by Mountainside Police officers and borough personnel against fellow officers in a recently filed lawsuit, a 46-page tale that, if true, puts to shame every slapstick cop movie ever made.

In the wake of the suit, officers Huber and Murphy have been placed on paid administrative leave, according to a statement posted to the borough's website. The officers have not responded to requests for comment.

Also on paid leave is the borough's police chief, Allan Attanasio, who is also named in the suit. He has not responded to requests for comment.

In an official statement released last week, Mountainside Mayor Paul Mirabella and Police Commissioner Keith Turner said no conclusions had been reached regarding the veracity of the allegations.

http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2018/05/teaching_children_gun_safety_rutgers_university_sc.html

If you tell a child never to pick up a gun, especially when an adult isn't around, they'll listen, won't they?

If you explain to them the difference between a toy gun and a real gun, they'll understand, right?

Unlikely, according to a new study by Rutgers University's School of Nursing.

The study, recently published in Health Promotion Practice, found that trying to teach gun safety to children is all but useless, that they ignore or fail to retain whatever gun-safety lesson they may have received once they actually encounter a real firearm.

"If the child is left unsupervised in a room, the first thing they do is go for it," said study co-author Cheryl Holly, a professor at Rutgers School of Nursing.

Why? Because kids are kids, she said. They're naturally curious.

"If you tell them you can't touch something, they want to know why they can't touch it ... they become more curious about it," she added.

In fact, a 2003 study found that when children were left unsupervised with a gun and several forbidden objects in a room, including a pack of cigarettes, they went for the gun first.

Nonetheless, 85 percent of gun-owning parents do not practice safe gun storage and more than 70 percent believe their young children can tell the difference between a toy gun and a real gun, according to the study.

Holly said she was surprised to learn how many parents think they can effectively teach their child or children not to handle a gun when left unsupervised.

"It was amazing to me," Holly said. "It told me that they really aren't paying attention to what they're children are doing."

The team of researchers reviewed 10 studies on the effectiveness of various strategies for teaching gun safety to children ages four to nine. The study took about two years to complete.

When left unsupervised, boys were more likely than girls to ignore these gun-safety rules they had been taught. And even children who initially followed the rules after the training did not use the safety skills they learned weeks later, according to a statement from Rutgers.

The team reviewed studies of four teaching methods that are available today.

There was the "just say no" strategy in which authority figures tell children to stay away from guns.

There was the skills-building approach -- teaching children skills to resist touching guns.

And then the knowledge-based approach in which children are given a video to watch or printed material to read about gun safety, which is the most common form of teaching gun safety to children.

While the hands-on training showed slightly better results than the other teaching methods, it didn't show any promise of actually being effective.

Which begs the question whether children can even learn gun-safety skills in the long term.

Sallie Porter, co-author of the study and an assistant professor at the Rutgers School of Nursing, said she recognized how divisive and controversial the issue of guns is in the U.S.

But, she said, regardless of people's views, society needs to find the best strategies to keep guns out of the hands of children and to make sure they're kept safe.

So if teaching children gun safety is so futile, is there anything that can be done to protect them from staying away from firearms when unsupervised?

Right now, there are only two effective measures, according to Holly and Porter. Either don't have a gun in the home or be sure to lock it up or ensure the code cannot be found.

"It's like when you put the cookie jar (away), they'll figure it out," Holly said.

i think that the gun owner should be held responsible when a child is harmed by gunfire.

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/05/15/business/media/fox-news-discrimination-lawsuits.html

Attempting to put to rest a drama that has plagued Fox News since the summer of 2016, the networks parent company has reached a roughly $10 million settlement to resolve a group of racial and gender discrimination lawsuits involving 18 current and former employees, according to a document viewed by The New York Times and three people briefed on the deal.

The settlements reached by 21st Century Fox include the class action racial discrimination lawsuit filed last year by the anchor Kelly Wright and several employees in the Fox News accounting department. Their lawsuit said that they had repeatedly complained about abhorrent, intolerable, unlawful and hostile racial discrimination to network executives but that no action was taken and that the inappropriate behavior continued.

Also included in the settlement were the race, gender and pregnancy discrimination lawsuit brought in 2016 by a former reporter for Fox 5, the networks New York affiliate, and a gender discrimination lawsuit filed by a Fox News Radio reporter.

According to the document viewed by The Times, terms of the deal included that the employees would agree to drop their claims, leave the network and not seek future employment at Fox News or other 21st Century Fox companies. The settlement specifically included a buyout of Mr. Wrights contract with Fox News, where he was the only black male anchor. Fox News has denied the allegations made in the various suits.

In a joint statement, a Fox News spokeswoman and Douglas H. Wigdor, a lawyer for the employees involved, said, The parties have reached mutual agreements that resolve various cases involving former Fox News employees.

Mr. Wright informed Fox News on Tuesday of his desire to pursue new opportunities, the network and Mr. Wigdor said in statements. In the statements, the network thanked Mr. Wright for his contributions over the years; and Mr. Wright thanked Fox News and wishes it well as he moves forward to the next phase of his career.

The agreement represents a push by Fox News and 21st Century Fox to move past the negative attention drawn by scandals including sexual harassment claims that led to sweeping changes at the top of the network: the ousting of the networks founding chairman, Roger Ailes; Bill OReilly, the top-rated host on cable news; and several other employees. The controversy also prompted a criminal investigation into Fox Newss handling of sexual harassment complaints.

The drama burst into public view in July 2016, when the former anchor Gretchen Carlson sued Mr. Ailes for sexual harassment. After Mr. Ailes was forced out of the network and Ms. Carlson received a $20 million settlement, several other employees came forward with sexual harassment and gender and racial discrimination claims. Some disputes were settled confidentially, while others became public lawsuits, leading to a steady drumbeat of negative headlines and mounting legal costs. By the end of last June, 21st Century Fox had incurred about $50 million in costs in the previous year that were tied to the settlement of sexual harassment and discrimination allegations at Fox News.

Several of the lawsuits were handled by Mr. Wigdor, a self-described conservative Republican who has said that he was at war with Fox News. Mr. Wigdor has been a vocal critic of what he described as a systemic culture of discrimination at Fox News, frequently speaking to the media and even testifying before the British regulators reviewing 21st Century Foxs $15 billion bid for Sky, the European satellite giant. (Mr. Wigdors firm also represented clients in a racial discrimination suit against The New York Times.)

https://qz.com/1270516/jerusalem-embassy-trumps-foreign-policy-looks-like-rapture-christians-plan-to-trigger-apocalypse/

In 1995, the US Congress voted to move the US embassy to Jerusalem. But until Donald Trump, presidents both Republican and Democratic resisted implementing the move, worried it could set off deadly violence. Yesterday, Trumps advisors and family members Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner finally inaugurated the new Jerusalem embassywhile the death toll of Palestinian protestors ticked steadily up to over 50, including several children.

Bill Clinton, George Bush, and Barack Obama all faced pressure from wealthy potential campaign donors to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, but Trump is listening to a voice they were not: evangelical Christians who appear to believe in the Rapture. Some, like vice president Mike Pence and secretary of state Mike Pompeo, hold posts inside his cabinet. For Rapture Christians, returning Jerusalem to the Jewish people is a key to the second coming of Christ.

Robert Jeffress, a pastor who preaches the Rapture, delivered the new embassys opening prayer. Jeffress has previously said that Mormons are heretics, Jews fated to hell, Islam promotes pedophilia, and homosexuals are filthy. He prayed, We thank you everyday that you have given us a president who boldly stands on the right side of history, and more importantly on the right side of you, oh God, when it comes to Israel.

Ahead of the embassy opening, over 63% of Americans opposed the move.

A new ideology in the White House

Belief in the Rapture, also known as millenarianism or eschatology, has multiple variations, but the core view is that there will an apocalyptic war, Jesus will return, and true Christians will be raptured or ascend to heaven, with the rest of the earths inhabitants punished. Rapture believers are split about the order of events, but they are united in the belief that only Christians will be saved.

Preachers of this scenario include the recently-deceased Billy Graham, mega-church founder Pat Robertson (who says Trump is implementing Gods plan) and many lesser-known end is nigh prophets around the country.

In the Trump White House, a weekly bible study group calls its brand of faith historical evangelicalism. Biblical scholars say the group shares the end of times message of Rapture theologians in its statement of faith and founder Ralph Drollingers own published lessons.

The bible study group is run by Capitol Ministries, an organization with the stated mission to teach Gods Word and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with state legislators, judges, and constitutional officers. Capitol Ministries supporters include ten members of Trumps cabinet, including in addition to Pompeo, labor secretary Alex Acosta and housing secretary Ben Carson according to the Capitol Ministries website. Drollinger, a UCLA basketball player-turned politician-turned-preacher, has also been holding weekly bible study groups with dozens of Congress members since 2010.

On May 8, as Trump was pulling the US out of the Iran deal, Capitol Ministries put out its latest study, The Bible on When War Is Justifiable, rebutting pacifism. If Jesus calls us to be peacemakers, it asks, then how could a Christian Cabinet Member or Congressman support the idea of going to war? The answer, Drollinger, explains, is simple: Saint Peter instructs men to submit to every human institution and the Book of Revelations discusses the righteousness of a God who judges and wages war.

Drollinger turned down a request for an interview through a spokeswoman.

it was nice knowing all of you.

https://www.usnews.com/news/top-news/articles/2018-05-15/groups-sue-to-stop-iowas-fetal-heartbeat-abortion-ban

(REUTERS) - PLANNED Parenthood and the Iowa branch of the American Civil Liberties Union said they sued on Tuesday to stop a state law from coming into effect that would impose the strictest abortion limits in the United States.

Iowa's Republican-controlled legislature voted last month to outlaw an abortion after a fetal heartbeat is detected, effectively banning the procedure at about the six-week mark, which may be before a woman realizes she is pregnant.

The lawsuit was anticipated by some sponsors of the law, who hoped to trigger a challenge to Roe v. Wade, the U.S. Supreme Court's 1973 decision that established that women have a constitutional right to an abortion.

The lawsuit in Polk County District Court seeks a hearing within two weeks to block the law before it goes into effect on July 1.

"Iowa will not go back in time by taking away this right," Suzanna de Baca, the president of Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, told reporters at a news conference announcing the lawsuit. "Planned Parenthood is challenging this law because the Iowa Constitution is clear a woman has a right to access a safe and legal abortion."

There are some exceptions to the law, such as in some cases of rape and incest and in a serious medical emergency, but Planned Parenthood, which performs abortions, and ACLU say the exceptions are too narrow.

Abortion opponents hope such a lawsuit could bring the divisive abortion issue back before the U.S. Supreme Court in the belief that the 5-4 conservative majority could curtail abortion access or ban it outright.

Rick Bertrand, a Republican state senator from Sioux City, said last month the law was in part "an opportunity to take a run at Roe v. Wade."

Planned Parenthood and ACLU said they hope to avoid that possibility by only challenging the law under the Iowa Constitution, which they also say guarantees a woman's right to abortion, not the U.S. Constitution.

Supporters of the Iowa law could not be reached for immediate comment.

The Emma Goldman Clinic in Iowa City, which describes itself as the first abortion provider in the state after the passage of Roe v. Wade, is a co-plaintiff in the lawsuit.

A law passed in Iowa last year that requires a minimum 72-hour waiting period before getting an abortion is currently blocked while the Iowa Supreme Court decides whether to strike it down.

they finally have a chance to challenge roe v wade thanks to trump. hopefully this gets stopped at a state level and it doesn't get taken any farther.

Mother's Day means big business for retailers. This year is no different -- shoppers will spend an average of $180 per mom.

If you hate all of the commercialization behind the day that celebrates moms, imagine how Anna Jarvis would feel now.

The holiday's founder worked so hard to get the world to give moms everywhere a shoutout. But before her death, even she had to admit she had some regrets about starting Mother's Day.
If she were alive now, she'd probably be living her worst nightmare.

She just wanted to honor her mom
Long before her death, Jarvis' mom Ann Reeves Jarvis hoped someone would dedicate a day to honor mothers. When she died on May 9, 1905, Jarvis set out to do just that. She began campaigning not only for her mom but for moms everywhere.

It started off with her hometown of Grafton, West Virginia, which takes credit for hosting the first official Mother's Day celebration three years later at Andrews Methodist Episcopal Church. Since then, the church has been dubbed the "International Mother's Day Shrine."
In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson signed a bill recognizing Jarvis' Mother's Day as a national holiday.

There's a reason 'mother' is singular
Jarvis was very intentional about the name of her holiday. It's Mother's Day as in one mom. The way Jarvis put it, Mother's Day is a day to honor "the best mother who ever lived, yours."

But Mother's Day became way more popular than she expected. People today honor any mom-like figure in their lives.

So Jarvis disowned her own holiday
Jarvis couldn't stand the idea of people spending so much money on extravagant flower arrangements, sappy greeting cards and overly priced chocolates.

First, she went after florists, protesting their marketing of those beautiful and ornate carnations. Then, her protests escalated to arrests for public disturbances.

Jarvis didn't stop there. She went after first lady Eleanor Roosevelt for using Mother's Day as a way to promote the health and welfare of women and children. While it was true that Jarvis' mother was a community health advocate, Jarvis still didn't like the association.

Jarvis died in a sanitarium in 1948. The holiday she created lives on.

Today, more people purchase flowers and plants for Mother's Day than for any other holiday except Christmas/Hanukkah. This year alone, Americans will spend $23.1 billion on the holiday. And most of that money will be spent on jewelry: $4.6 billion.

she's got a point.

A cop from the Hillview Police Department in Kentucky allegedly sexually assaulted a rape victim he was supposed to drive home.

Last week, Hillview Det. John Nissen was charged with official misconduct, tampering with a witness and theft by deception after being accused of the incident, which allegedly took place in September 2017.

According to news outlet WLKY, a woman approached the Hillview Police Department claiming she was raped by an officer from another county.

The complaint was from an alleged rape victim, and they were interviewing her, Bullitt County Commonwealth attorney Shelly Alvey told WLKY.

According to Alvey, Nissen agreed to take her home, and the allegation is that when he left the police department, he actually drove her to the home of the alleged perpetrator.

Nissen and another unnamed cop allegedly took the woman to a Walmart to buy her a phone, followed by a trip to a hotel where they demanded oral sex from her, the Pioneer News reported.

Nissen then allegedly raped the woman. He reportedly told her it was time to move to another jurisdiction, Alvey told the newspaper.

WSB-TV reported there was evidence the woman was under the influence of alcohol and drugs at the time of the alleged sexual assault.

Reports of the alleged incident were discovered during an investigation of the womans first sexual assault claims, according to WLKY.

In order to avoid conflict of interest, the Hillview Police Department has asked Kentucky State Police to oversee both investigations.

In a statement, Hillview police chief William Mahoney said, If the allegations against Detective Nissen are found to be true, you can be assured that we will handle the matter appropriately. The alleged behaviour is most definitely not in line with the values of our agency.

If convicted, Nissen could face up to five years in prison for each charge and upward of $10,000 in fines. The accused cop is currently suspended from duty. He will be arraigned this coming Monday.

The Georgia cop who was caught on camera choking former NFL player Desmond Marrow during an arrest last year has been fired for using unnecessary force.

Authorities released a statement Thursday, announcing his termination.

We promised to find the truth for Desmond Marrow, where ever it took us, explained Henry County Police Chief Mark Amerman.

He and all people deserve the truth, and being open and transparent is important to us at the Henry County Police Department, the official said, noting how the probe into Marrows arrest on Dec. 2 was complete.

The Internal Affairs investigation revealed that unnecessary force was used by Officer David Rose and that Officer Rose was recorded stating that he choked Mr. Marrow. He was also recorded stating that he was not going to write that information in his report. This statement was recorded on Officer Roses in-car video camera system.

Video of Marrows arrest went viral last month after surfacing on social media. The footage shows Officer Rose grabbing the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers player by his throat while several other cops hold him down on the ground.

I cant breathe! Marrow can be heard saying repeatedly.

Chief Amerman ordered the internal affairs investigation in early April after the arrest footage circulated online.

The incident was later reviewed by the Henry County District Attorneys Office, who determined Thursday that thered be no felony charges filed against Marrow after he was hit with obstruction of an officer and making terrorist threats.

We have reviewed the police reports, witness statements, 911 calls, audio and videos, as well as interviewed witnesses, and determined there is insufficient evidence to present any felony charges to a grand jury, DA Darius Patillo said in a statement.

Amerman assured local citizens that nothing like this would ever happen again.

The Henry County Police Department is confident that this is an isolated incident, and is not a reflection of the many dedicated officers who perform the duties of their office every day, often putting their lives on the line to keep our community safe, he said. Moving forward, we will continue to conduct necessary training to ensure that our officers uphold the high standards set by the Henry County Police Department in serving the public.

hopefully the cop involved in the waffle house incident meets the same fate.

A group of students who reportedly made jokes about rape and used racial slurs have been suspended by the University of Warwick after private Facebook messages came to light.

Eleven male students have been suspended after screenshots of alleged racist, antisemitic and misogynistic messages in a Facebook group chat were shared with the prestigious university.

The exchanges included shocking remarks such as sometimes its fun to just go wild and rape 100 girls and rape the whole flat to teach them all [a] lesson.

A member of the group gave a racist reply using the term p***, while further remarks included love Hitler, hate n***** and j*** and Corbyn.

Student newspaper The Boar reported that three formal complaints were made to the university and almost 100 screenshots of the group chat submitted as evidence.

It added that the Facebook chat which had been called F*** women, Disrespect them all and had screen names of Grenfell and Taxi Jew included senior members of societies.

Discussing racism, one user said on the chat: Yeah racism is frowned upon at Warwick? F****** bull. Others replied EDL! and racism is class.

A University of Warwick Student Union (SU) spokeswoman said: Warwick SU is aware of the ongoing university investigation into a group Facebook chat involving a number of Warwick students.

The SU condemns the content of these messages together with all forms of sexism, racism, anti-Semitism, ableism, and threats of violence in the strongest possible terms.

The SU has been supporting the victims and will continue to do so.

We are also proactively cooperating with the universitys ongoing investigation, and hope to see a conclusion as swiftly as possible.

A University of Warwick spokesperson said it was a student disciplinary matter that is currently being actively investigated. We obviously cannot comment further on that matter until those investigations, and any subsequent disciplinary processes, are concluded.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: We are aware of the matters relating to the social media group involving a number of students and we are liaising with Warwick University.

The incident comes after a number of reports of racist incidents at universities since the start of the year.

Just last week, a number of law students who allegedly made racist comments were expelled by the University of Exeter after private WhatsApp conversations were shared on Facebook.

Meanwhile, Sheffield Hallam University recently launched an investigation after a black student was allegedly called a monkey by staff. The incident came after a banana was reportedly thrown at a black Sheffield Hallam graduate during an ice hockey match between his alma mater and city rivals, the University of Sheffield.

when will people learn that this kind of behavior on social media isn't a good idea even when you believe it's private.

https://www.theverge.com/2018/4/16/17245010/elizabeth-pierce-fraud-charges-bdac-fcc-ajit-pai

Around the time of the FCCs vote to roll back existing 2015 rules and replace them with threadbare new ones, many senators and representatives were sending stern letters to the agency informing its chairman of their displeasure. Pai has recently responded to these diverse voices of concern with a form letter repeating the same misinformation he and other proponents were spouting all through 2017.

Dozens in Congress received the same letter in the past couple of weeks, regardless of their position on the issue or the contents of their own letters.

It is alarming that throughout the course of your deliberations, one must look far and wide for advocates of your proposal. Additionally, I have not heard from a single constituent in South Texas who is in favor of giving up Net Neutrality, wrote Representative Vicente Gonzales (D-TX) in late November.

It is not enough for the FCC to turn its back on consumers. You willfully plan to tie states hands to prevent them from protecting their own residents. It is a stunning regulatory overreach, reads a letter signed by 39 senators in December. Underlying your plan is the false notion that your action will return the internet to the supposed halcyon days of light touch regulation from the past Even under the Bush-era FCC, the agency adopted open internet principles and held out the threat of regulatory action to combat harmful activity.

How does the FCC intend to address the concerns of small business regarding the appeal of Net Neutrality that may lead to a lack of competition in the ISP market? asks Representative Pittenger (R-NC), in a friendlier but still critical letter. Do you plan to accompany the elimination of Net Neutrality with deregulating efforts to expand and open the construction of needed Internet infrastructure in order to ensure sufficient competition?

Theres even a letter from multiple Republican representatives that is almost doglike in its vapid admiration (The record is exhaustive, every viewpoint is well represented, and the time has come for the Commission to act) and parrot-like in its repetition of talking points (We write today in support of the [FCCs] plan to restore Internet freedom by reversing a statutory scheme created for the monopoly telephone carriers of a bygone era.)

To all these and more, Chairman Ajit Pai has the same vague, redundant response presenting the standard distortions of the campaign to replace the 2015 rules:

In early 2015, the FCC jettisoned this successful, bipartisan approach to the Internet and decided to subject the Internet to utility-style regulation designed in the 1930s to govern Ma Bell Under Title II, annual investment in high-speed networks declined by billions of dollars By returning to the light-touch Title I framework, we are helping consumers and promoting competition.

Practically everything he writes has been challenged by experts or is a misrepresentation of the facts. You can find the details of most of these arguments, and their counter-arguments, here.

Its likely that Pai sent along more private notes of thanks or feels some questions were answered in the rules themselves, but its still disappointing to see substantive questions and concerns from the nations lawmakers (and his bosses) going publicly unanswered or even unacknowledged.

not that i'm surprised. ajit pai and trump don't care about republican or democratic opinions on net neutrality. all that matters is giving the isp more power to screw over the consumer.

* whoops. i linked to a completely different article regarding his broadband adviser being arrested for million dollar fraud. i'll just leave that in there.

North Korea has warned the US about using "pressure and military threats" against it as the two countries prepare for a historic summit.

A Foreign Ministry official said the US was deliberately provoking the North by suggesting sanctions will not be lifted until it gives up nuclear weapons.

US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un are due to meet in the next few weeks.

It will be the first ever meeting between the two countries' leaders.

North and South Korean leaders agreed last month to denuclearise the region, at a border summit which came after months of warlike rhetoric from the North and Mr Trump.

Mr Kim became the first North Korean leader to set foot in South Korea since the end of Korean hostilities in 1953.

North Korea regularly criticises the US - but there have been few attacks in recent weeks, amid plans for the summit.

This latest statement is a reminder that discussions between the two countries will not be easy, says BBC Asia editor Michael Bristow.

The North Korean official, quoted by state news agency KCNA, said that Washington was "misleading public opinion" by saying the denuclearisation pledge resulted from sanctions and other pressure.

The US was also aggravating the current good atmosphere by deploying military assets on the Korean peninsula, they added.

"The US is deliberately provoking [North Korea] at the time when the situation on the Korean peninsula is moving toward peace and reconciliation thanks to the historic north-south summit and the Panmunjom Declaration," the statement said.

"This act cannot be construed otherwise than a dangerous attempt to ruin the hard-won atmosphere of dialogue and bring the situation back to square one.

"It would not be conducive to addressing the issue if the US miscalculates the peace-loving intention of [North Korea] as a sign of 'weakness' and continues to pursue its pressure and military threats against the latter."

Mr Trump has said he will maintain sanctions and other pressure on the North and suggested that his tough stance has helped facilitate reconciliation.

On 27 April Mr Kim met South Korean President Moon Jae-in at the border village of Panmunjon.

They said they would pursue talks with the US and China to formally end the Korean War, which ended in 1953 with a truce, not total peace, and made a commitment to the aim of "a nuclear-free Korean peninsula".

Mr Trump says a date and venue for the talks have been decided, but has not revealed them.

TopicOklahoma and Kansas approved bills protecting adoption agencies who discriminate

https://www.seattletimes.com/nation-world/nation-politics/passage-of-adoption-bill-represents-shift-in-oklahoma/

Bills aimed at curtailing LGBT rights have been derailed in the deeply conservative Oklahoma Legislature in recent years as many Republicans grew weary of voting on measures that allow for discrimination against gay people.

Most of the bills were left to quietly die by failing to meet deadlines, but increasingly many were defeated openly with Republicans casting no votes on the floor or in committees. Those who did were supported by a business community wary of the kind of economic blowback states like Indiana and North Carolina received for passing anti-gay legislation.

But in a shift, the Legislature overwhelmingly approved a bill to grant legal protections to faith-based adoption agencies that wont place children in LGBT homes. A similar measure also passed Thursday in Kansas, and in both cases, the bills were approved despite fierce resistance from gay rights advocates and opposition from an industry group representing major tech companies, including Microsoft, Amazon and Google.

Troy Stevenson, executive director of the LGBT-rights organization Freedom Oklahoma, said this years shift toward support of the bill was due to the fact that Treat is in line to become the next Senate leader.

This is pure politics, Stevenson said. It has nothing to do with constituents or districts. Its because its the next (Senate) pro tems bill.

Stevenson said some Republicans justified their support of the bill because gay people would still have opportunities to adopt.

While Republican Kansas Gov. Jeff Colyer supported the legislation, Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin hasnt said whether shell sign her states.

If they become law, the bills arent expected to change current adoption practices in either state. Some faith-based agencies already do not allow gay couples or single people to adopt, and neither bill prohibits gay people or same-sex couples from adopting. But the measures would provide legal protections to those agencies that do.

Backed by the powerful Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma and the states Catholic bishops, state Sen. Greg Treat, a top Republican leader in the Senate who wrote the bill, said hes convinced some faith-based groups are hesitant to participate in adoptions for fear of being sued for discrimination.

I would not be standing here on a bill as controversial as this if I didnt believe it would help more children to get into loving homes, Treat said during a sometimes testy debate on the bill.

Oklahoma Department of Human Services spokeswoman Debra Martin said she couldnt say if there was a shortage of adoption providers, but the agency is currently seeking adoptive families for about 500 children.

The measures passage Thursday in the Oklahoma House was even more emotionally charged, with Democrats trying several parliamentary procedures to derail it. At one point, the presiding officer threatened to have one Democratic member forcibly removed from the chamber when he refused to sit down.

it would seem that parts of the country are experiencing a revival of regressive values.

A 31-year-old Lincoln Park man who allegedly threatened to kill the manager and patrons of several North Side gay bars was mistakenly released from Cook County Jail before being taken into custody Thursday afternoon.

Shane Sleeper, who spent two days on the loose, was arrested in February for allegedly threatening the manager of the popular gay club Sidetrack, saying that Orlando will happen in Chicago.

The alleged statement was thought to have been a reference to the 2016 mass killing at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, in which a gunman opened fire inside the club, killing 49 people. Sleeper had been jailed on those charges since Feb. 21.

On Monday, misdemeanor charges against Sleeper were dropped as prosecutors filed felony charges in a total of 13 new cases alleging Sleeper also threatened to shoot up the nearby bar Roscoes and threatened and harassed a half-dozen people on different occasions dating from 2016 to a few days before his February arrest.

Jail officials at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday received notice that the charges against Sleeper had been dropped, but not about the new ones that had been filed or that Sleeper was to be held without bond until after 7 p.m., Cara Smith, director of policy for Sheriff Tom Dart, wrote in an email to the Circuit Court Clerk Dorothy Browns office.

In a response email, Associate Clerk Renee Banks wrote that the electronic notification on at least some of the new charges was transmitted by 5:26 p.m. Tuesday. Court records indicate the no-bond order for Sleeper was signed at 9:30 that morning.

Banks email also suggests that a sheriffs officer usually brings over copies of court orders. Smith said Thursday that the sheriffs office had no copies of the orders on his new charges.

Brown, whose office has been the source of a years-long federal investigation, last month announced that she would be running for mayor.

Sleeper was released Tuesday night, and remained free until around noon Thursday, when the Sheriffs Fugitive Task Force arrested him without incident at a friends house a few blocks from his apartment.

Prosecutors filed a terrorism and hate crime charges, as well as counts of stalking, impersonating a police officer, making death threats in person and by phone, and other charges. Sleeper was also accused of harassing a half-dozen people in incidents dating back to 2016 up to a few days before his arrest earlier this year.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/transgender-prison-rape-colorado-female-men-colorado-lawsuit-a8334556.html

A transgender inmate says she was raped at a mens prison hours after a judge threw out her request to block corrections officers from keeping her in a disciplinary unit.

Lindsay Saunders-Velez claims she had been threatened, harassed and assaulted since entering Colorados prison system last spring for violating her plea deal in a menacing case.

The prisoner filed a lawsuit against the states corrections agency in July, branding the system discriminatory and dangerous for transgender offenders.

Last month, her lawyers requested a judge not send Saunders-Velez to her jails punishment pod for a disciplinary infraction, saying she could end up with inmates who had tormented her.

The judge said the attorneys failed to prove an imminent risk, and rejected their request .

However, the 20-year-old was attacked during her time in the pod and needed more than a week in the infirmary recover, according to her attorney, Paula Greisen.

This issue is not going to go away, she said: Were going to fight it until these individuals are treated with the respect they deserve.

Federal law requires prisons to individually asses where to house each transgender person, said Demoya Gordon, an attorney with LGBTQ+ advocacy group Lambda Legals transgender rights project.

But, she added, almost all facilities still housed inmates based on their genitalia or birth gender, resulting in many transgender women being abused or raped during their sentence.

A Spring Independent School District principal is learning the consequences of her words.

Word quickly spread on social media about a joke Ponderosa Elementary School Principal Shanna Swearingen made on April 17 about one of her students in front of three staff members.

Busted: Kids caught skipping school at Cubs game
The young boy is black, in special education and has behavioral problems. He is known to run from class, according to his guardian.

Swearingen was overheard saying, We wont chase him. We will call the police and tell them he has a gun so they can come faster.

Michael Burnett, the PTA president for Ponderosa Elementary School, said he first read about the comments through a Spring neighborhood Facebook group. He said hes having a tough time believing the principal would make such a remark.

I dont believe that its fair for people to take to social media on something that is hearsay, he said. I think the best thing would have been to come to her and ask the question.

Burnett said the comment doesn't align with Swearingens character.

The principal has been awesome. She broke her back during Hurricane Harvey and worked in homes of all races, he added.

Several parents KPRC2 spoke with are outraged. Some are calling for Swearingen's resignation.

Others are pushing for some sort of disciplinary action that includes special needs and sensitivity training.

"It's disgusting. That kind of comment is disgusting even if it was a joke how could you recant something like that?" parent Jessica Spoonemore said. "Children are getting killed by gun violence and that was very unnecessary and disturbing especially for an elementary school."

"It's probably going down racial lines whether we want it to or not. I think it speaks to more of what we have going on in our country as much as it is going on at this school, but some action needs to be taken," parent Christopher Mitchell said.

Still others just don't believe it.

"She's a good principal. She helped me out when my daughter had some issues. She's always out here greeting students. She's a good principal, so I just hope someone maybe just overreacted," parent Amber Cade said.

KPRC2 reached out to Swearingen, but she was not available for an interview.

The school district told us she did take responsibility for her words and apologized to her students.

KPRC2 spoke with the guardian of the child Swearingen was talking about to staff members. His guardian was unaware such comments were made prior to speaking with Channel 2. He has a meeting scheduled with the school.

Swearingen sent a letter to parents Tuesday after KPRC2's 10 p.m. report aired Monday. The letter read:

Vatican treasurer Cardinal George Pell will stand trial on historical sexual assault charges, a court has ruled.

Cardinal Pell formally pleaded not guilty to the charges on Tuesday. He has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

An Australian magistrate ruled on Tuesday that there was enough evidence for the case to proceed to a trial on some charges, but not on others.

Cardinal Pell is Australia's most senior Catholic and one of the most powerful officials in the Vatican.

Magistrate Belinda Wallington read out her decision on each charge individually in a Melbourne court, following a month-long hearing.

Cardinal Pell has rejected the accusations, saying last year: "I am innocent of these charges, they are false. The whole idea of sexual abuse is abhorrent to me."

Intense interest
The cleric was given a large police guard as he entered the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, watched by dozens of media representatives and members of the public.

During the hearing in March, more than 30 witnesses testified to the court. Many sessions were closed to the public, which is standard practice in Victoria in sexual offence cases.

In open hearings, the court heard that accusations against Cardinal Pell included alleged incidents at a cathedral, a cinema and a swimming pool.

Cardinal Pell is currently on a leave of absence from the Vatican to fight the case against him.

this isn't going to help their stereotype. they really need to have an independent organization investigate the vatican. who knows how many incidents they buried.

A Virginia newspaper has prompted outrage after printing a Ku Klux Klan recruitment flyer in full on its front page.

The Westmoreland News ran a story on how flyers and DVDs for the racist group have been appearing in the town of Colonial Beach, Virginia.

But in doing so, they showed the flyer in full, making it appear like an advertisement in the newspaper.

The flyer included anti-Semitic and racist language as well as a contact number for the head of the KKK.

The newspaper did simultaneously distance themselves from the hate-group by running a disclaimer on the front page stating: "Westmoreland News in no way condones or supports the content or message of this flyer, nor does it condone or support any branch of the Loyal White Knights, or the KKK."

Readers voiced their anger on the paper's official Facebook page

Facebook user Beth Dressel Sanfilippo wrote "Disgusting: & Disgraceful; publishing recruitment for the KKK. Promoting Hate & Bigotry? Disgusting: UnAmerican."

Colonial Beach Police Chief Danny Plott was the person who alerted the paper to the flyer, but did not expect to see it on the front page.

He told CBS he called the paper's editor, Brittlyn Powell, demanding an explanation.

The editor told Mr Plott she wanted the people of Colonial Beach to know racism existed.

"I think she didn't expect for this to blow up the way it did," Plott said.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/ct-bill-cosby-jury-decision-20180430-story.html

Speaking out for the first time, the jury that convicted Bill Cosby at his sexual assault retrial said Monday its decision was influenced only by what happened in court. The youngest member of the panel said the comedian's own words sealed his fate.

Harrison Snyder, 22, said in an interview on ABC's "Good Morning America" that Cosby's deposition in which he admitted giving women drugs to have sex with them was the evidence that made him believe he was guilty.

"I think it was his deposition, really. Mr. Cosby admitted to giving these quaaludes to women, young women, in order to have sex with them," Snyder said.

Snyder said it "wasn't an open and shut case," but added he had no doubt the jury made the right decision Thursday in convicting Cosby on three counts of aggravated indecent assault.

The investigation into Cosby was reopened in July 2015 after a federal judge, acting on a request from The Associated Press, unsealed portions of Cosby's deposition testimony from a civil lawsuit he settled with his accuser, Andrea Constand, in 2006 for nearly $3.4 million. In the testimony, which was read to jurors at both trials, he described giving quaaludes to women before sex in the 1970s. Cosby also described his sexual encounters with Constand, a Temple University women's basketball administrator.

Five other women testified at the retrial that Cosby had drugged and molested them as well, but Snyder said they weren't a factor in his decision.

"I don't think it really necessarily mattered that these other five women were here because he said it himself that he used drugs for other women," he said.

The Cosby jury issued a statement saying its decision was not influenced in any way by factors other than what was seen and heard in the courtroom. Race and the #MeToo movement against sexual misconduct were never discussed, according to the statement, obtained by NBC's "Today" show.

"After thoughtful and meticulous consideration of the information and evidence provided to us, we came to our unanimous verdict," the jury said. "Not once were race or the #metoo movement ever discussed, nor did either factor into our decision, as implied in various media outlets."

Cosby, 80, is now a prisoner in his own suburban Philadelphia home and faces the prospect of spending the rest of his life behind bars as he awaits sentencing, likely within the next three months. His publicist has declared his conviction a "public lynching," and his lawyers have vowed to appeal.

i agree that his admittance to giving them quaaludes for the purpose of having sex with them really lended credence to the idea that he was guilty.

A Syracuse man seriously beat a 76-year-old man because the victim is gay, DeWitt police said Sunday.

Police filed hate crime charges against the accused.

The arrest happened on April 18 around 11:54 p.m. Police arrived at Highland Avenue to investigate an assault and arrested Alexander Strauts, 52, of Syracuse.

Police said he assaulted a 76-year-old man, causing him serious physical injury.

When he was questioned later, Strauts told police he assaulted the victim because the victim is gay, Lt. Brenton White said. The suspect and victim were acquaintances, White said.

White could not provide more details about injuries the victim sustained.

Strauts was charged with second-degree assault as a hate crime, second-degree unlawful imprisonment as a hate crime and aggravated harassment, White said.

Strauts was held at the Onondaga County Justice Center pending his arraignment.

huh. i guess he doesn't care that admitting to a hate crime lengthens his sentence.

Anti-abortion campaigners have been accused of harassing women outside abortion clinics across the UK. With one council now deciding whether to ban them, some women say they are still haunted by protesters' behaviour.

"They said I was a murderer... that I was killing something with a heartbeat," Lisa Jones tells the BBC's Victoria Derbyshire programme.

She says she was harassed a number of years ago by anti-abortion protesters surrounding the entrance to an abortion clinic in Ealing, west London, where she was being seen.

"The words still live with me today, still haunt me today."

The campaigners have been protesting there for 20 years. Armed with placards and prayer beads, their aim is to convince women not to have an abortion.

Lisa had been advised by doctors to terminate her pregnancy after she was diagnosed with a brain tumour, and so never saw it as a choice.

"I was made to have an abortion," she says.

"I'd tried for a few years to fall pregnant and when I did fall pregnant it was the best thing ever, and to be told, 'You can't have that', it's absolutely heart-wrenching."

She says the protesters' comments almost made her risk her life, and not go through with the abortion.

"I was happy to come out of clinic, go home and risk my life because I didn't want to be branded a murderer," she explains. "But I couldn't."

Seeing them still standing outside the clinic "angers and frustrates me", she says.

"I think it's cruel, unfair. I don't think it should be allowed."

Following a consultation, Ealing Council in London will now vote on whether to ban campaigners from protesting outside the Marie Stopes clinic by introducing a "buffer zone" - which pro-choice groups want to cover an area of 100 metres from the clinic.

Abortion charities hope it could pave the way for other councils to do the same.

The government has also held its own consultation into harassment and intimidation near abortion clinics. The Home Office says it is now reviewing the responses, before deciding whether to take action.

Anti-abortion groups say they are actually there to offer support to women who do not want an abortion, but who see no other way out.

i was aware this happened in the states, but i didn't know it happened in the uk, too.

Why does a video about officers subduing a suspect without the use of guns supposed to mean that they require guns to subdue a suspect? I'm not following your argument here.

The lady cop almost got killed. Like, one good swing and she'd have been dead. Luck is all that saved her ass, despite outnumbering the guy 6 to 1.

Honestly, did that really look like a flawless arrest to you?

The video says that she left with no serious injuries. How do you see a statement that she left the scene without serious injuries and then conclude that she was almost killed? You even watch the shit you're posting?

this. are you trying to say it would have been better to just kill the person when the video proves they could solve it without a fatality? that makes no sense. you're reaching for an argument that guns could help them somehow and failing.
