I thought "hate crime" wasn't a thing on its own. It's supposed to be "aggravating circumstances" attached to other things that are already a crime by themselves.

Killing someone is a crime.
Killing someone because of their race is a hate crime.

Insulting someone is not a crime, so it couldn't have the "hate crime" modifier, even if done because of racist motivations.

Pretty smart though apparently they usually can't recognize themselves in mirrors.

When my cat was little, we used to put him in a room during the night so he didn't crash/break things while he learned to move without breaking stuff. There were mirrors there. He knows what mirrors are, and doesn't pay attention to his image. And he hates other cats, and gets agitated when he sees one outside.
