This movie seems to want to do a lot... but never really makes the full effort to do so.

It wants to explain Cloverfield lore, but it doesn't outside from a couple stray lines that don't ACTUALLY give any legitimate explanation.

It wants to be a standalone sci-fi thriller, but it falls into genre tropes and never properly explores the actual science (for a better alternate universe experience, check out Coherence).

It wants to have emotional parallel plotlines connecting space and Earth, but relies on flat characters in space and has nothing happen in the Earth story.

It's not the worst sci-fi thriller out there; the performances are decent enough, and it makes cool attempts at concepts like reality warping, but just doesn't have the followthrough.

Kraft mac and cheese and hot dogs is the best poor person food out there

a box of Kraft is $1, you can get a pack of 24 hot dogs for $4 (one pack of kraft pairs with about 3 hotdogs, so that's $.50)

so for $1.50 you get a meal that's easy to make and filling and serves as pretty decent comfort food

Generations got the nostalgia points from both the 2D and 3D eras, and on top of that was a perfect example of how both styles can work

Mania had plenty of nostalgia going for it, and while it was fun, it also held too strongly to the "only the old games were good" attitude, and refused to recognize and fix the issues the series had that have since been mostly fixed (sending you back multiple levels on a loss, main story progress halted by one-off minigames)

I think DeKalb Elementary is the favorite to win, but these are always hard to predict.

I wouldn't disagree with that. I think My Nephew Emmett might have a chance due to racial tensions being so relevant (and that amazing performance) but DeKalb definitely seems most likely given the subject matter

(which is kind of a shame given it was my least favorite, but it wasn't bad either)

well not the documentaries I only have so much time and I have a lot of persona to play

Saw all the live-action ones yesterday. My ranking right now:

1. The Eleven O'Clock - The only comedy of the bunch. Feels weird choosing this over the rest (and it definitely won't win) but honestly this was just really excellent and hilarious writing the whole way through

2. My Nephew Emmett - Main performance here was far and away the best of any of the five. Dark, ominous and horrifying

3. The Silent Child - Went back and forth considering putting this in 2nd. Great performances, great story, great directing, just really solid work all around

4. Watu Wote - Honestly probably the best from a directing/cinematography standpoint. Amazing camerawork, amazing music, but also frustratingly pandering

5. DeKalb Elementary - Fine enough for a short film. Really good main performance but otherwise pretty simplistic compared to the others.
