They said today Oddish/Growlithe/Sandshrew are exclusive to Pikachu and Bellsprout/Vulpix/Meowth are for Eevee. There'll probably be more, like Scyther/Pinsir and Electabuzz/Magmar.

As a person who spent hours and hours getting every character in FFVI to master every spell as new espers became available, or had to have all four characters master all 24 jobs in Bravely Default, or did literally every new quest in Xenoblade as they became available, the complaints about the game being grindy and repetitive have absolutely no impact on me.

Really hope you can have more than one save file. THAT alone would be a major jump from past pokemon games.

Current setup is that each account on your Switch can have its own save. So my wife and I and our two kids can all have our own files with just one copy of the game, though trading between them would still not be possible.

To my knowledge there's at least one Switch game that already disables that feature (1-2 Switch, I think?), so it's entirely possible Pokemon will do the same. And if so, I would also expect a future Animal Crossing game to do the same, so you can still only have one town at a time.

Or has Nintendo already confirmed there will be multiple saves allowed?

Oh I guess the confusion is Nintendo seems to think there's a distinction between "core" and "mainline". They're calling it a "core" Pokemon title but not "mainline". Well okay then.

One thing of note seems to be that there's some kind of post-game epilogue content that no reviewer took the time to figure out (or rather, they haven't even had the time).

From Kotaku's review:

NOTE: Theres been a lot of confusion over whether Octopath Travelers eight stories overlap or lead to some sort of epilogue. After finishing all eight, weve seen nothing like that. Its not clear whether the game contains any sort of bonus endgame contentNintendo says that it does, but the publisher could not tell us before publication what that content is or how to access it, only saying that it was a matter of completing the storylines and some side quests.

Let me comment on this, because I couln't talk about anthing before today.
I still haven't managed to finish all 8 stories, but I have finished 4 and I have to say that thematically, each of them is implying that it leads to something bigger then the story itself. Now I would have been dismissing that as nothing, but in these endings it is a reoccuring theme, so I would be very very surprised if there was not some sort of endgame content this leads to.
I have noticed that characters form stories that I have finished start to populate the world and hand out quests, so it's just a matter of following those threads I imagine.
Now, I'm not saying that this will turn into an epic single story JRPG plot, but signs are still there that there is a payoff for all this and everyone who I have seen claiming otherwise has blindly rushed through the game as far as I can tell.

It's kind of refreshing to see a game like this where everything isn't already known before release, and we could still be surprised by something.

Or there really is just nothing lol.

It's a spin-off that isn't targeted at you. Just don't buy it and go on with your day

A lot of the appeal of Pokemon has always been that it's targeted at kids at the top level but is still enjoyable for an older crowd because the mechanics of the series are set up in a way that makes it as simple or complex as you want. It hasn't always been a perfect formula but it's usually worked pretty well.

I think a little annoyance is somewhat understandable.

I think this argument would be more fair if it were a mainline game, but it's not

Tell that to Nintendo, because they're sure trying to tell us that it's a mainline game.

I believe the old Safari Zone is now the equivalent of Pal Park, for transferring Pokmon from Go to Lets Go.

Yep. And in a way it sorta makes sense since this Go style of capture essentially makes the whole game play like the Safari Zone, but still.

It's just hard to get over that this game is probably going to have less content than FR/LG. No wild Pokemon battles, no Safari Zone, even simpler difficulty, probably no Sevii Islands, no connectivity to past games, sounds like possibly no connectivity to future games...
