He had taken the children, ages 7, 9 and 10, as they played outside, and he later called his wife to tell her that he had the girls at an amusement park in Denver.

Ms. Gonzales conveyed the information to the police, but they failed to act before Mr. Gonzales arrived at the police station hours later, firing a gun, with the bodies of the girls in the back of his truck. The police killed him at the scene.

I'm confused how that translates to the police not having a constitutional duty to protect.

Even if I didn't do anything wrong, and the police officer still tells me to stop, I will stop. If he arrests me, I will continue that path. No need to add resisting arrest to the list.

I got pulled over twice in my life:
Once going 90-something in a 45 active work zone. I got a ticket, but he dropped it down to something much more reasonable, and ended up paying just under $100 for the fine with no points on my license. I was in the car alone and was 17 years old.

Second time, I got pulled over going over 110 in a 55 zone. I ended up with a warning. No arrest, no ticket, nothing. I count my lucky stars after this event, and I stopped speeding recklessly (only go 10 over now at most). I was in the car with my wife and was 28 years old.
