But, and I've only played Borderlands once briefly when I was in college, Borderlands appeared to be a FPS with character progression - and you only had four character choices, each with three skills that you couldn't choose. Fallout lets you completely customize your character and their decisions, although many of those "decisions" don't mean much and several skills are worthless. What's your argument? Skyrim is okay, actually, since there's more than one playstyle available. You're free to switch out one of your nominations. I found both Fallout 3 and New Vegas to be too much of a shooter/action game due to there being only one playstyle. But that's just me. I Googled it and saw there's a lot of debate about Fallout 4. | KujikawaRising 07/24/18 4:05:20 PM #1 | It is time. We will enter 50+ RPGs into the ring of battle to determine the champion of one of Board 8's favourite genres! Please note that this refers to video game RPGs only, so nothing pen & paper. As for what qualifies as an RPG, it must CLEARLY be an RPG above any other genre. This means that hybrids that are an FPS/action game first and an RPG second (like Borderlands or certain more recent Fallout entries) will not be considered RPGs for the purposes of this contest. Zelda games not called Breath of the Wild will not be eligible. If you have to debate why it is or isn't an RPG, it probably isn't for the purposes of this contest. You may not nominate a series - only individual games. One exception: Pokmon games may be grouped if they have the same content (so RBY, GSC, RSE, DPP, and S&M/USUM may be grouped, but BW and B2W2 are separate). Remasters (though FFX and Symphonia are both two separate games regardless) and enhanced versions (Persona 4 Golden) will count as the original game. Remakes may or may not be - it will depend on how serious the alterations were. If you have questions, ask! For a twist, this contest will be run Redemption Island style. This means that once a game is eliminated, it will enter a "duel" in the following day's poll. The top vote-getter in that poll will move on to the next day; the one(s) that do not will be permanently eliminated. At two certain points in the game, the poll winner will re-enter the contest. Both of these will occur before the top 10, so worry not! Each person will get five nominations at this time. It takes nominations from three different users to enter the contest. Unlike Skyrim or GTAV, however, there's very little IN those places. It's a very well-made game. It's just that there isn't enough to do for long periods of time. It's intuitive and aside from the stamina gauge, the mechanics are fun to mess around with on occasion. Even so, for me they get stale. The world itself is like you said: There's just two major things to do in it and both get stale fast. It's not enough for me to get hooked on traversing the world, though. I wanted more lore and more interesting things to discover. The WRPG worlds - and that of GTAV - have more lore, more characters, and more stuff to do. That is simply a fact. BotW needed something more. It has the mechanical greatness. It has a good foundation. But it lacks heart. I could run five minutes in any direction and find something to do that wasn't just "taking in the nature." Breath of the Wild just doesn't compare with how much there is to do. And the world is barely populated and Mac Arrowny posted... I thought it was full of stuff to do, compared to pretty much every other open world game. Felt like everything you could do was substantial too. Very different from empty wastelands like GTA5 and Elder Scrolls. This is one of the most backwards things I have EVER read. If I want to go sightseeing, there's a real world out there. I don't play video games to "go exploring" - I play them to "do shit." I also hate how easily the weapons break. Disrupts combat far more than it should. I went in thinking I'd like it a lot more than I ultimately did.
