To be reminded that these things still happen, and the very act of "remembrance" is to not let it slip from our heads of the atrocities that take place in this world.

And no one is demanding you feel guilty, nor contribute positive words, but at least take a few minutes to not be an asshole about it.

I can say that throughout my (limited) amount of dating, I've never felt it necessary to have a backup for the purpose of my own safety.

I'm not suggesting "every date", I'm asking you a question. If your answer is "never", then you have it easier than the average woman, plain and simple. How often do you plan a backup? Someone to call you and check in? Do you make sure to make the first date is in a public place for your own safety, or do you do so being cognizant of their desire for safety?

At the end of the day, there really wasn't that much hate for Solo. There was proximity hate from people who were still bitter about TLJ. There was also some exhaustion hate for a little while, but at the end of the day, Solo just kinda faded from the conversation pretty quickly.

Because I watched it in theaters.

And I want to watch it again.

Yet I have other things I want to do more.

It's called exhaustion. Not everyone has time or drive to sift through hundreds of nothings to find the actual worthwhile people beneath. Online dating promises us connections, but instead it feels like a chore.

Like imagine you see a guy you might be interested at the far end of a room, but to get to him, you have to push and shove your way through a throng of men with their dicks hanging out. Is it really worth it for something that's not even close to a sure thing anyway?

Healthcare workers. Look for nurses or other healthcare professionals. They keep the oddest of hours, so you'll have that in common, and some of them clean up damn good.

Sometimes it takes more than a number on a paper. Sometimes it takes a professor or other professional to sit you down and say "Hey, you're good at this."

I think it's something more people should do with those they mentor. :)

...to not introduce a new mechanic for the LEGO metaseries.

Almost every LEGO game (at least the ones I can think of), introduce a new mechanic. Whether it's LEGO Incredibles with it's "family builds", or LEGO Batman 2 introducing hubs, or LOTR introducing voice acting, LEGO Hobbit introducing materials collecting and building, multi-builds, etc.

Of course, apart from things like hubs and voice acting, very few of these mechanics would persist for more than one game, because more often than not they were pointless and sometimes slowed the game down, but hey, at least they were trying new things for a series that basically is the same as it was thirteen years ago.

About the only new things LEGO DCSV does is that the first thing you do is create a character (which has been an optional staple in the metaseries from almost the beginning), and that character actually ends up being a part of the story.

Baby steps. Up until this fall, she's never seen a therapist in her life despite dealing with:

Her father and stepfather abandoning her family.
The recent loss of her grandparents that she has not taken well.
Learning of her sisters being victims of sexual assault

Compared to those, unresolved issues of attraction seem lower on the totem pole. I just wish I wasn't her only outlet for them.

And at the end of the day, it's less about assumptions and more about just learning and picking up on social cues.

Like there are legitimate social cues that people will give if they're more interested beyond a friend level. They'll make time to talk to you. They'll touch you. They'll find reasons to be around you.

One of my goals if I become a father is that my child will learn about those cues and think about the other person and how they're responding more than focusing on their own feelings and desires.

This is the kind of thing that when I first realized this was a thing, I had to make a conscious effort to push myself away from my initial attraction. Honestly, I'm pretty sure I didn't do it well, because I just ended up convincing myself that I'm not attractive to women in general. So, my first instinct when meeting a new attractive woman is just "be a friend, because she probably won't be attracted to you".

And it's one of those issues where I wonder if I've robbed myself of experiences, simply due to my own lack of self-esteem.

But that's my own issue.
