There's a weird post on fangraphs today called Let Us Like Baseball. I don't know that I recommend the piece but it starts off with the author mentioning that she recently asked her friends what their favorite play in baseball is. That's a ridiculously hard question but let's all answer it!

First thing that came to mind for me was an opposite field line drive that splits the gap, preferably for a triple, because that is the most aesthetically beautiful ball in play

The Cubs traded for Cole Hamels because they're a good team with a bad rotation. Tyler Chatwood has made 19 starts and still has more walks than strikeouts. What the heck

Football is turn based strategy

I'd say it's more like rock paper scissors

That's interesting. You mean because they have to select plays simultaneously? The issue with that analogy is that in RPS both sides are working to attain the same goal whereas in football one is on the attack and one is on defense each turn. Did you ever play odds and evens instead of RPS? That's a little closer maybe

Regarding the idea that there were more trades than usual at the deadline, I just heard on Effectively Wild (fangraphs podcast) that the Giants are the only team who didn't make a deadline adjacent move and they still did add Austin Jackson on the 8th

I'm still Octopath Traveling as you know. I'm like 27 hours in and haven't played in a couple of days because the repetitiveness is getting to me, just like with Bravely Default as anticipated. Overall I still like it but it's a bit of a shame because they were super close to making an amazing game

Why did they have a non pitcher guy playing pitcher

They were down by like 17 runs in the 8th so they did this to preserve their bullpen in a game they couldn't win anyway. It happens basically every night now where it used to be a cherished oddity

I think they're planning to use Archer as a piece of their next contending team. He's under team control through 2021 and they're pretty good this year. I just don't know if the move is them going all in for a 2018 wild card slot or them retooling in advance of the offseason for when they upgrade to try and beat the Cubs.

Better than Austin Meadows though? He was like a top 10 guy entering this season

A lot of big Leaguers did get moved but a lot of the moves they were a part of were just confusing. What the heck are the Rays and Pirates doing

Tommy wore that ninja hood when it was cold in St. Louis. What if I posted a pic and said "that is not the hood of an unhappy person." Seems like you're making a lot of assumptions re: interesting attire and its suggestions towards a person's self-actualization
