I'll be perfectly honest I am a little bitter. There was a time carpenters were actually respected. Now we're the schlubs of the trades and expected to be welders, plumbers, or electricians bitch on call.

Nevermind the fact that we gotta do our job to even get things to a point where those people can work.... Somehow we're still the least respected and valued of the lot.

How long would that take you? $400 is absurd for 30 minutes of work. Unless you are including materials along with labor.

Well... if the boxes arent attached to a stud and the electrician is insisting on putting in those metal boxes that secure to two rafters. And if the guy has to assemble both fans. It could theoretically take a good chunk of the day.

And I dont know whats with all this green wire talk. Here its just bare copper.

It's a half day project for sure.

Man if that's a half day project for you and you're in the trades I dont know wtf to tell ya. If that was all i got done in 4 hours my supe would be pretty pissed.

I'm factoring in time in takes to drive to the job, assemble both fans, possibly replace the existing boxes with fan rated boxes. By half day I'm talking I would schedule it for either a full morning or full afternoon and would bill accordingly

And you're a carpenter, so with all due respect I'm not going to take advice on my trade from you or vice versa.

Must be nice to get paid for driving time.

Why the fuck have carpenters gotten reduced to everyone's bitch I. The last ten or fifteen years? =(

I mean you're not being totally unreasonable but if I can build an elevator shaft and pour a slab and wire an automatic door closer and still do some trim work it seems like that's a pretty small scope of work for the time frame.

Urgh, I'm tired of seeing people fall for this mindset.

You can't fund one industry with money from another. It just doesn't work like that.

Why not? In Tennessee the taxes on the lottery are used to fund education. The two hardly have any relation to one another, but the funds are there all the same.

It's literally done constantly.

We have icbc in this province and it's the only insurance provider for your car (there are numerous companies but all the insurance goes through icbc) that money is generally earmarked for roads and transportation but the last government scooped a billio out of it to balance budgets.

That's a rarity. But things like taxes on cigarettes and liquor and gambling revenues are used for all sorts of shit. TC's premise was dead from the jump.
