ElatedVenusaur 12/11/18 7:19:51 PM #110 | DarkRoast posted... If this gets Democrats actual important benefits for Trump's totally symbolic and useless wall, it's probably a better deal for Democrats. Oh, is there an offer on the table? Because I don't think there is, and it probably still wouldn't be worth giving Trump a symbolic victory. Also, how much of an idiot do you have to be to get publicly humiliated by Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer? Because now we know! |

Topic | How are your Stellaris Games Going? |
ElatedVenusaur 12/10/18 7:36:25 PM #1 | The new economy is definitely a lot more interesting and requires much more active engagement and choice-making than before. It's especially hard to make ends meet early, as new colonies are slower to get up to speed and you can't really take advantage of specialization yet because your homeworld is your entire developed economy. How are your games going? |
Topic | Here's the first poster of the Sonic live-action movie. |
ElatedVenusaur 12/10/18 5:30:26 PM #90 | This was a dumb concept from the beginning: a live-action Sonic movie would be much harder to pull off than even a live-action Mario movie. So they're trying to do it anyway, because that's smart! Very smart! I think the ceiling for this IS basically Super Mario Bros. : a bizarre fever-dream that is vaguely interesting due to how deeply weird it is, but also unambiguously bad. |

ElatedVenusaur 12/07/18 5:37:35 PM #2 | I very much doubt Trump will get arrested or will face any real consequences for any crimes he committed. That's simply not how our system works. The wealthy and powerful play by different rules. |

I would've guessed the Democrats would've been more likely to pay, with all their talk about fair wages and what not. Yes, it is both surprising and disappointing that that is the case. I'm glad AOC is putting her star power to use to highlight this shameful contradiction. She also called out the fact that a lot of the orientation stuff is literally run by corporations like Goldman Sachs. AlephZero posted... i'm laughing imagining a senate democrat having an unpaid intern put together a press release talking about how a $15 an hour minimum wage is necessary for people to survive That's a depressing image. |
Topic | Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Will Pay Her Interns $15 An Hour. |
ElatedVenusaur 12/07/18 10:26:26 AM #4 | Even $15/hr. is low for her district and D.C. , but it's a great starting point. We need to make it more possible for average people to get and keep this sort of job(the average person can't sustain themselves without a wage). |
Topic | Recommend me good video game music CE |
ElatedVenusaur 12/06/18 4:09:24 PM #16 | Let me lay some Digital Devil Saga on this topic. Steel Coffin, Movements 1&2. Excellent tracks, from one of my favorite segments in any game I've played. |
Topic | I'm going to play Shin Megami Tensei JRPGs. Where do I start? |
ElatedVenusaur 12/06/18 3:39:54 PM #27 | SMT games tend to be a bit difficult. If you're experienced with JRPGs, you won't have too much trouble, but every SMT game tends to have an early-boss that's a roadblock SMT IV is a fine introduction to how the main-line games work. If you like that, you'll probably like Nocturne(you'll miss some QOL features though) and SMT IV: Apocalypse. Digital Devil Saga is great, but a slightly different beast. Can't comment on Persona, personally. |

As per usual with PDX games, gotta wait for a fix patch after the new big patch. I mean, do any of us have a good command of this stuff? Topic | Two Days until Stellaris: Megacorp |
ElatedVenusaur 12/04/18 4:03:13 PM #1 | Some streamers have access to it already. But what is Megacorp? That's the trailer.(Don't worry, you can have luxury gay space communism too.) Full patch notes for the technically-inclined: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/stellaris-dev-diary-136-2-2-le-guin-patch-notes.1132161/ Important to note: the 2.2 "LeGuin" patch applies to the base game, as do all patches. So, what's everyone looking forward to? I'm pretty psyched for what seems to be a much more interesting and robust pop-management system. It should make playing, say, a United Federation of Planets-style civ and a monstrous slaving empire feel much more different than it currently does. Plus, you can be a crime lord. You can even be a religious crime lord!(totally making a Scientology-esque civ, myself). |
Topic | Joe Biden: I'm the most qualified person to be president |
ElatedVenusaur 12/04/18 3:24:59 PM #68 | When your pitch is "I'm the most qualified candidate", that suggests you don't have a vision for a better America. Or, if you do, it's pretty much America as it is now ruled by you. |
Topic | Black women on why Bernie Sanders will never be president |
ElatedVenusaur 12/04/18 3:23:24 PM #92 | Liberals always try to drive a wedge between economic and social issues on this issue, precisely because they have no intention of addressing the former. It is; however, fair to criticize Sen. Sanders for neglecting the latter(particularly racial issues), particularly early on in his primary campaign. He did and has continued to improve on the matter, which is more than can be said about Sen. Corey "I'm not about to sit here and indict private equity," Booker on economics, at least. |

Topic | At a center-left policy conference; lots of means-tested vs universal discussion |
ElatedVenusaur 12/03/18 5:28:37 PM #26 | Balrog0 posted... Antifar posted...But means tested programs, because they have cliffs and aren't universal, tend to breed resentments towards recipients that create political pressures to reduce or eliminate the programs. Programs for the poor become poor programs. What of welfare(currently Temporary Assistance to Needy Families a.k.a. TANF)? It got decimated from its previous form(Aid to Families with Dependent Children a.k.a. AFDC) because Republicans demonized welfare recipients and lucked into an opportunistic Democratic president. Another good example is Medicare vs. Medicaid. The former is basically a sacred cow second only to Social Security, but the latter is state-administered and basically non-existent(by design) in many places. I think there's plenty of evidence that means-tested programs are more vulnerable to political attacks and thus cuts to funding and therefore tend to be less effective. |

ElatedVenusaur 12/03/18 4:42:53 PM #42 | Sativa_Rose posted... ScazarMeltex posted...This is what happens when your national defense is entrusted to large corporations whose only real goal is turning a profit for their share holders. It's partly true: they mostly build and develop new weapons systems, aircraft, etc. and, as a general rule, are not held accountable for cost overruns and the like. Plus, they manipulate their supply chains in such a way as to make outright killing a given project politically painful rather than focusing on efficiency. It works so well Congress orders up tanks and other stuff the military doesn't even want(and they want a lot of stuff). I would say Trump saying this is a case of a stopped clock being right twice a day, but that would imply Trump is consistent. Regardless, he is correct that our military spending is out of control. |

ElatedVenusaur 12/02/18 7:44:57 PM #12 | A few years overdue, but better late than never, I suppose. I know that team has problems, but it's way too talented to lose to the Cardinals under any circumstances, let alone at home. I could see a defensive-minded coach working out there. Patch up the skill positions and stop putting the weight of the world on Rodgers 100% of the time, and the offense will be great. But the defense needs help. |

Not surprised Warren's stock would be in the tank, as she very publicly stepped in crap and somehow ended up rolling around in it while trying to get it off her shoe.
