I too would like to see batshit Batman with ancient Egyptian god magic get his own show.

The best arcs for the character, if you ask me, are the ones where the writer keeps the reader guessing as to whether or not the Moon Knight has these powers ... or if he is imagining all of it. Does he have a voice in his head ... or is he hallucinating? Pretty cool stuff.

Bonus points to Blade: The Series -- which I actually enjoyed a fair bit -- for dropping a Moon Knight reference. Made me hopeful for the future.

I don't really know how I feel about open-ended RPGs. It's kinda like what mooreandrew98 said above: I mentally fill in the gaps when I'm playing, though I have a hard time being a bastard to NPCs. I don't know why. Maybe I don't think they deserve to have me do awful things to them? ... Unless they did awful things to me first. Then, it's fair game.

ParanoidObsessive posted...
It's like the ability to get married in the Fable games. Sure, you CAN do it... but the game gives you almost no reason to CARE enough to want to do it. All the samey generic NPCs with about four different voices all sort of start to blur together to some degree after a while.

Skyrim tends to turn into a slapstick comedy when I play it. I am hilariously bad at the game, but that somehow still makes it enjoyable for me.

Entity13 posted...
My one gripe with DQ11 is that it's so trope heavy that you can easily predict what will happen in the next few story events. Sure, a lot of games may follow tropes strongly, or I might be a writer that identifies the narrative from some distance away more often than not, but DQ11 just goes all of the way on that effect.

That, for me, is a big part of its charm. There is nothing "edgy" or pretentious about DQXI. It's just an open invitation to sit down and have a good ol' time playing an old-fashioned JRPG.

I will also admit that 17-21 year old me would have had a serious thing for Jade, because she's just designed that way.

... 38-year-old me thinks she's very attractive.

I have a soft spot for my local Game Stop, since I have been shopping there almost exclusively for over a decade and everybody there knows me, but the company is a zombie that is long overdue for a burning. It killed Funcoland. It absorbed EB Games, but kept its crappiest practices. (Voice of experience here, since I used to work for EB Games in the early '00s; worst job I have had.) Goodness only knows how many mom-and-pop stores it annihilated over the years. Physical gaming is on its way out, and so this is one monopoly that must go with it.

Had to take a sick day today, so I sat on the couch and watched all three episodes of the Detonator Orgun OAV ... on ye olde Central Park Media / U.S. Manga Corps DVD. I had a chuckle at reading the notice on the back on the case that says your PC has to have at least Windows '95 in order to correctly read the DVD-ROM.

Orgun dates to '91, but it is a very '80s show in look and feel. Obari directed, but mercifully did not do the character design, and it looks very similar to (the very '80s) Hades Project Zeorymer. Impressive soundtrack, courtesy of Hirusawa (i.e. the Berserk guy). Healthy amounts of violence, nudity, explosions, and flashing lights. Good companion anime to Tekkaman Blade, but with a bigger budget (... and a better director).

Picked Orgun because I have been getting back into Super Robot Wars (due to the announcement of SRWT being released in 2019), and one of the games I have been playing is SRWW (DS), featuring both Orgun and Tekkaman. Also started a fresh play of 2nd SRW OGs with the translated script, and it offers a whole different experience than just winging it like I did when the game first came out.

All in all, feeling very nostalgic. There is plenty of modern anime that I like to watch (e.g. Goblin Slayer), but nothing can truly duplicate the old stuff for me. It's hard to even really put a word to what's missing.

I feel there is referential context here that I'm missing.

TSBT used to be a fantasy role-play channel in the hoary old days of IRC chat in the '90s. I acted as a GM for it. Several good, long-running plots happened in that place, and I met a number of friends there who are still in my life twenty years later (plus one who got married to a real-life friend of mine), but it was also a big time sink and a hotbed of drama. That, I do not miss.

Do you also enjoy the fact that they've remade it like twice now?

Never Say Never Again is all right, but also silly. It looks like Connery got dropped into a Moore movie. ... If there is a second remake, I am unaware of it (unless you count Austin Powers).

(Just ... don't call it the Silver Blade Tavern.)

Thunderball is my favorite of all the James Bond movies, and I prefer the Connery era, but I did enjoy the Brosnan era, especially Goldeneye, but I loathe Die Another Day. That one is shit, IMO. If Madonna is in your movie, you jumped the shark. Game over.

The Craig era feels like a revisitation of the Connery era, but updated for the present. Casino Royale is not my personal favorite (because Thunderball), but I consider it to most likely be the objective best of all the movies in terms of characterization, plot, etc. Perfect reboot for Bond.

Lazenby is underrated. The Moore era bores me, for the most part, but I did like Live and Let Die, and Jaws is a fun recurring villain. (A View To A Kill is the first Bond movie I ever saw, but I was too young to make much of it outside of thinking Grace Jones is scary.) The Dalton movies do not feel like Bond movies to me.

Seconding the love of Dragon Quest XI while I am here. Best game of 2018 for me.
