Why is it on "the left" to have the rational discussion and to hear out Trump supporters yet the inverse is never asked?

Because you are the educator. You are the one promoting a relatively new and enlightened way of looking at the world, rather than simply maintaining the world as it has always been. This is not just a personal insight: whether you're a left-leaning gamefaqs poster, or a college professor, or a famous actress who had a bad experience with a horny TSA agent, or a disphit porn star defending himself over helping bully a homophobic peer into suicide, the label of 'educator' is one that the left has willfully (possibly even arrogantly) placed upon itself. And despite one or two of those allusions being negative, this is a good thing - it's a noble goal to strive for a more enlightened and rational world, and it is something to which we should all contribute.

Whether you want to be or not, you are a representative of this message, and your behavior determines how well people actually listen. This may not be a particularly revelatory insight, but learning is hard; stepping outside of one's comfort zone and reevaluating how one looks at the world and the people in it can be one of the most difficult things to do, especially when doing things the way they've always been done has worked out pretty well so far for the type of people who'd be most resistant to this level of societal change. Being an educator in any kind of official or unofficial capacity requires a certain level of maturity over the person you're trying to educate in order for any teachings to have hope of sinking in and taking hold. If a bratty student lashes out and calls you a dickface, you can't lash back and call him a shitbrain and expect to get anywhere.

If you want to be a shepherd of the new world of enlightened thinking, then it is your unfortunate but inescapable responsibility to maintain the maturity necessary to weather the immaturity of the old world.

tl;dr version: changing society for the better takes time and patience, and requires a higher level of maturity from the people trying to change it. You're never going to bring the backwards masses up to your level if you keep sinking down to theirs.

- it doesn't really matter who you go with at the start, you aren't locked into an allegiance until you approach the respective leaders and complete their initiation mission; going Ralof / Stormcloaks or Hadvar / Imperials simply gives you a friendly face later during the questline if you stick with the side. There's no urgency to pick a side in the Civil War, and you can even neglect that questline entirely if you so desire.

- pick a few core skills and focus on them. You can level up very fast in the early game if you're not careful, and as a previous poster mentioned, leveling up a bunch of different skills at once will cause you to get your ass kicked in the mid-game. Keep your combat skills focused (for instance, one-handed with block, and occasionally use archery or destruction to hit flying targets), pick a couple supplemental magic schools (restoration and conjuration, for instance), and with the possible exception of alchemy, don't mess with the crafting skills until later in the game.

- Apocalypse and Diverse Dragons are two downright essential mods, even on a first playthrough, as they enhance two lackluster elements of the vanilla game without altering the vanilla. Get them. Unique Uniques is also very recommended, though you may want to spring for Old Kingdom - Weapons, which is a major weapon overhaul that incorporates all of Unique Unique's changes (but OK-W might be too much of an overhaul for a first playthrough).

EDIT ^^ Nice to see that comic again, perfectly captures the pitfall of Skyrim's leveling system.

Kinda. No idea why Square went ahead with the remake without making the game better. Sure you cant really fix the janky combat because that would be changing the soul of the game. But the rest of the game feels just as mindless going back to it. There were only like, 2 side quests and both of them just involved talking to 1 or 2 people. The game is fun even by yourself but its also bad.

They shouldve pulled what Nintendo did with Metroid 2 imo but that wouldnt have gone well with the people who wear nostalgia glasses for the game.

Based on the reviews I read and the snippets of new tracks I heard, it's like they went out of their way to ruin everything the original did right while fixing nothing that it did wrong.

Giant_Aspirin posted...
you can definitely tell the game was unfinished and it's definitely a product of it's time. as others have said, SD3 is where it's at. also, like others, i still love the game because nostalgia.

Pretty much how I feel about it, though I've never gotten a chance to play SD3. Secret of Mana 2 getting teased in Nintendo Power and then never coming stateside was one of my great gaming disappointments as a kid.

5>6>4>RO>8>7>1>3>2 for me.

I haven't bothered to watch the middle act of RotJ in probably a decade, but the movie still has most of my favorite moments in the franchise. TPM gets an edge over RotS because when it came out, it was at least a spectacle. By the time RotS came out, the franchise was dead for me and I got little to no enjoyment out of the movie; the technicality of being the least-smelly turd out of the PT didn't do it any favors in my book. Similarly, while TFA was a modestly entertaining movie, it did next to nothing to stoke my passions. Last Jedi, for all its numerous flaws, did a number of things I liked (mostly in the form of throwing out TFA's boring retreads in a surprisingly spectacular fashion), and actually kept the spark of interest going that RO's third act has surprisingly rekindled.

It's a bit fancier than the one I bought back in the day, but still the same design.

I was partial to the clock tower set from Prisoner of Azkaban because it had some nice colored transparent bricks for stained glass. When I converted all my Harry Potter sets over to an approximation of a Castlevania Dracula's Castle, I tied a bunch of gears into the clock mechanism so that there was a chasm with swinging pendulums that the heroes could jump over.

Google search is saying that vampire girl is the best follower. How does CE feel?

At face value Serana's pretty strong, but almost all of her spells are AoE; thanks to Skyrim's shitty friendly-fire mechanics or lack thereof, she'll end up inadvertedly starting fights with guards and bystanders all the time (fights that you can't stop unless you've got a supercharged Calm spell to hit everyone at once).

She also follows the Vampire-class protocol of reanimating anything in sight and gunking up the game world with ash piles. Ash piles from regular npcs disappear, but ash piles from permanent corpses, random encounters, or pre-dead npcs will never despawn.

Finally, she's exceptionally chatty on the level of Mjoll, Erandur, and Hirelings, but she furthers this potential irritation with a lot of self-contradicting dialogue. 'The sun's killing me, let's find a cave.' *goes into cave* 'I've spent enough time underground, thanks.'

Tl;dr. Love her or hate her as a storyline character, she's honestly more annoyance than she's worth as a follower. The only reason I kept her around in Oldrim was that there's a rather easy exploit in which you can have her as a permanent second follower while still being able to recruit other people.

Jenassa has proper dual-wielding. Teldryn Sero is the only competent vanilla spellblade; good melee fighter with access to Flame Atronach. Ingjard isn't remarkable combat-wise, but levels indefinitely with the player. Marcurio's spells pretty much win the game for you at low to mid levels. Illia would be the best mage, but in vanilla suffers from a bug where you can never rehire her after you dismiss her.
