Link/LoZ has historically been one of the worst options to stop a rally (0-3 against them). He and OoT are probably the biggest test those rally entries have run up against, but they are also at absolutely their most determined when they face him.

Regarding this match... no matter how pathetic it sounds, this beatdown from my boy against one of my lesser liked characters is one of the best birthday gifts I could ever hope to receive. Thing of BEAUTY watching the Hyrule Hammer in good form, though for those who missed it, it's still incomparable to the old days when he'd put up EIGHTY ONE PERCENT against Yoshi.

If Link marches through this bracket in his sleep, which he is looking likely to do, I'd be in favor of retiring him completely from the next CB, save for the final bonus poll against the bracket champ (it doesn't even need to count for points, though it can). I also think we can have a much smaller tournament of champions by excluding only Mario, Samus, and Cloud - akin to 2005. Everyone else should be in the main bracket because they are clearly fair game, though I suppose the idea of Zelda being a top threat to win a contest might be unpalatable to many.

I would support just excluding all 20th century Nintendo and Square characters.

I don't know much about it but I'd guess it might be possible if Bracket A had Character C losing next round while Bracket B had Character C losing much later, Character C winning a match that Bracket A and Bracket B both had Character C winning could be worse for Bracket A if the two brackets are otherwise close enough.

In this case the elimination would have happened prior to this match. Because eliminations can only occur taking into account different picks between Brackets A and B, with the deficit (Score A - Score B) too large to overcome from the remaining picks that are different between the two brackets.

Super Metroid is more popular here than any MGS game. Samus gets a lot more strength from Smash than Snake. Metroid Samus Returns remake was pretty well received and just released last year.

Because it's a remake & wasn't on the 3ds million seller list, I assume most Samus voters weren't thinking about this game when they voted for her.

Metroid Prime 3 was released to critical acclaim in 2007.

Since then, only 2 new Metroid games have been released: Other M (2010) and Federation Force (2016). Both were critical and commercial flops. Metroid Prime 4 is, at least to the public, nothing more than a logo at this point.

On the other hand...for being the black sheep of the series, MGS5 has a 93% Metacritic and millions of copies sold. Yet Snake has declined in popularity from previous contests.

Does this site have such a raging fetish for anything Nintendo-related that a lost decade only makes the character MORE popular?

We're already about 2200 votes behind Red/Alucard and Bowser/Kirby, which is a fair comparison because they were also matches that happened on Saturday. This puts us on pace for less than 26000 votes, which would be even lower than our first 2 days of the contest.

There isn't really any obvious SFF matches today that could hurt our vote totals. At least Bowser/Kirby could have also dragged down Red/Alucard as well for a possible excuse. Seems like the sprite pictures are hurting us worse than expected.

Or everyone is sick of NintenDrones taking a giant dump on every single contest. If I dont like the characters I just dont vote.

Ive suggested the date cutoff idea before. Then Nintendrones would just nominate The specific incarnation of Link from BOTW etc to get around the rules, because technically every LOZ game has a different Link.

When there was a date cutoff for Game of the Decade, Nintendrones voted for Majoras Mask when OOT was too old to make the cutoff.

Why the fuck is it that Nintendo accounts for less than 10% of the gaming industry by revenue or games sold, less than 5% of major critic or industry awards, and yet at least a third to a half of every fucking gamefaqs contest tournament consists of Nintendo characters and games? The rabid NintenDrones on this site will do everything to stuff every tournament full of Nintendo characters, nominate every Pokmon from A to Z, etc.

Mega Man is getting eviscerated in the UK. He's losing it worse than MMX lost to Tifa, which is nuts. The saving grace is that Mega Man is picking up more random smaller countries on the right half of the map than MMX did. Tifa swept basically everything on the right half of the map.
