It's covering the connection between the criminal and the victim. The alcohol and cocaine part may or may not be important at the moment, but her escorting is how they met.

Why make that the focus?

I'm sure the court would like to know the motive and the nature of the crime. Knowing their relationship is a good start. The fact that her friends and family didn't seem to know answers a lot of questions.

I hated that.

When I first saw some episodes, I honestly thought it was a young adults' sci-fi show, as opposed to a regular sci-fi show. Stupid scripts, puppet work (lulz), quite a lot of juvenile stuff going on.

With the exception of the puppet work, you just described all CW shows. All of those shows are total high school drama crap, disguised as sci-fi/fantasy.

He does them once in awhile but he spends most of his time focusing on things the mainstream media ignores.

Also, you think he's smug? If anything Jeremy goes out of his way to be accommodating and polite. His snark levels are muppet levels. He doesn't even curse. Personally I prefer Razorfist because he cuts right to the bone and he doesn't bother being polite a all. He straight up roasts whoever he talks about and doesn't bother with censorship.

If you think he's smug then you must be terribly sensitive. It must be difficult to go grocery shopping without having a panic attack. I imagine that if someone changes lanes without a signal you probably have to pull over and count to ten to collect yourself.

You don't have to rant and rave to be smug, at all.
His general demeanor, a long with his almost exclusively negative content are what make me think that.

As a person who loves beer and hates weed I feel very confident in claiming drunk people are far more annoying to deal with. There are a few caveats, however. If I was drunk I'd rather not deal with a stoned person. If I were stoned (not likely to ever happen again) I'd rather not deal with a drunk person. If I were sober they're both annoying af, but drunks might get angry/violent.
