The way it happened, I thought it was being caused by me beating Classic Mode, because it was usually after I finished the boss fight. You can see how I thought that, right?

But yeah, I didn't beat any of them. I don't know if I was trying that hard, though, because I thought it was some mostly meaningless bonus mode or bonus fight.

Way back when, I played through a lot of the game on a high difficulty setting, and I had to fight all 7 parts of the Seven Force. I was just playing on Expert Mode, and I'm pretty sure I only had to fight 5 parts. Is there a higher difficulty mode that unlocks after beating Expert Mode, or am I just remembering wrong? Bare in mind, it's been 10+ years since I was playing it, until 2 days ago.

Oh. Well, the way the person said it, it made it sound like it would definitely happen every 10 minutes. It would be better to say there's an OPPORTUNITY to unlock a character every 10 minutes.

No like you really suck badly because you unlock a new character every 10 minutes. That's the built in timer for unlocking characters.

There's no timer. If there was, I would have about 10 new characters by now.

Hey Sunhawk, did you understand the controls I posted in your last topic? Its okay if you dont feel comfortable offstage yet. Just focus on trying to kill the enemies with Smash attacks for now, then when you feel more confident you can try to learn offstage and ledge game.

Remember also that your up-B is usually your recovery move (not for Yoshi though, he has none)

Offstage? Aren't you dead by the time you're offstage?

Im just not sure why youre having such a difficult time grasping the basic concepts. Its pretty pick-up-and-play. My wife got the gist in like two minutes.

It's just so hard to beat the opponents without dying at least once. You know them off a ledge, they do an air jump to come back up. Wtf. I mean, I'm reasonably good at fighters, and excellent at platformers, so I shouldn't be too bad at this game. But I am.

Yeah... the challenger AI was notoriously difficult but they turned that down with a patch. Also the first few challengers are ridiculously easy to kill.

Who are you fighting them with Sunhawk?

I've beaten it with Mario, Link (I think), and DK (I think).

I must confess, I'm still struggling to understand / enjoy it.

I mean, I can see the sheer effort that's gone into it. All the content, the graphics, probably balancing the gameplay as well. But...I just haven't enjoyed it that much. I don't know.

The biggest problem is obvious to me. The game bills itself as this fighter with over 70 characters. You know, so much variety in the characters, lots of people to play as and fight against, all the characters you love from various franchises you've played. But, after 2 hours, I'm still stuck with the original 8 characters. I didn't expect to unlock something like 65 characters really quickly, but you would usually have unlocked a couple of new people by now. Nope. I've beaten Classic Mode with 3 different characters, and sure, I've unlocked some filler content, but no new characters. I've tried playing the Smash Mode, just random fights with characters, but nothing there, either (although I think I lost every match).

It's still too hard for me to beat enemy characters. They keep seeming to jump back onto the platforms. The gameplay feels (although I doubt this is really the case) random and chaotic, like it doesn't matter what you do or what buttons you press. When a match finishes, I sometimes have to wait for the game to tell me who won or lost, because I don't understand myself.

I tried playing the main adventure mode, but stopped playing partway through the first match, because I don't think I understood what I was doing.

It's not all bad, though. The graphics are excellent. I've seen some cool places from games I like, such as a level from Sunshine, a level from Sonic 1, and some Pikmin level(s). It's cool. I can see why longterm Nintendo fans enjoy it so much (although I am too).

Thoughts on all this? I've seen so many people over the years, on these very boards, praise the series a lot. People act like it's the GOAT series, beating out Mario, Zelda, COD, etc. I can't understand, though. I know people are going to take this OP very personally, raging about my "terrible opinions", and defending their beloved series, but that's just silly. I'm just saying what I think, from what I've played. Perhaps it is a really great series. Perhaps I just don't understand.

You know, it's funny. I was a 90s kid, and by the end of the 90s, when they were becoming a thing, I was 16 years old, but I never touched the books, and don't recall any of my friends talking about them. I think I was born just about late enough to have been in the age range that was reading them, but I never really cared one way or the other. Saw the films like most people, of course.

Alright, alright. Calm down, everyone.

To be fair, something like Virtua Fighter 3 had lots of minor moves that were just slight variations on each other, and it still listed a lot of attacks / moves for each character.

I hated that game, though. I hate all Virtua Fighters I've played. The pathetic, tiny variations on moves is so silly. You spend ages learning some moves, and they barely help you win matched at all. One move might do 5% more damage than another move. I don't see how many people can be SO purist that they enjoy the VF games.

At least DOA has boobs bouncing around. And Street Fighter has cool special moves. And Smash has platform-style environments.

Can not compare now for example from Unis ago such a Gurkenuni in any Kaff with a T9 or so.
In my city, for example, everything was relatively conservative, i. E. Having sex in the stage was already the exception if you did not come from an Asi family.
A few decades ago that was even more extreme with the differences, my parents had once told me that this was a total taboo topic and very unlikely.

I mean...3D fighters usually have lots of moves per characters. It's more 2D fighters that only have a few moves per character.

The special moves are mostly intrinsically different from the numerous A-button moves. Take Mario, for example. B is fireball (projectile), Side-B is cape (reflector + turns the enemy around, is good for gimping recovery since it doesnt knock enemies out of the helpless post-recovery state), Down-B is FLUUD (can also gimp enemies and push them away since it does 0 damage) and Up-B is Super Jump Punch (Marios recovery move). Thing is, all of these moves have properties that rarely, if ever, show up on the A moves. Up-B is usually the recovery move (sometimes theres no recovery move for characters like Yoshi and Jigglypuff, sometimes theres multiple)

I must admit, I like Mario's moves. Fireball was a logical long-range attack, but FLUDD was cool as well. I'm surprised they put a nod to Sunshine in there, given how it's one of the least popular 3D main series Mario games. When did they add that move in? Has it been there for a long time?

every characters hard punch, medium punch, light punch etc.. are also different in SFV/any other fighting game too. the game expects you to know basic attacks.

Smash players can be so condescending. :(

Well, maybe I'll put in some more hours tomorrow or something. I guess just play Classic Mode as different characters, perhaps. It's hard to know what to actually DO in a fighting game, when just playing by yourself. Practice, and unlock things, I guess.

Here's a question for you, teepan, or any German on CE.

How did attitudes to sex develop over the 20th century? Not just sleeping around, but different things like group sex, etc. I would've thought Germany didn't become liberal in that sense until the 90s, but I expect a few people deemed deviants did stuff in East Germany, and were arrested by the Stazi.

It's strange. The first time, I thought it was really average. Then the second time, I quite enjoyed it. A quick question, though: does it have any nudity in it? I can't even remember, but given the subject matter, it might.

I never understood why people hate Die Another Day. I've seen it lots of times, and really enjoyed it. I don't remember AVTAK very well, but the Moore films were good. Perhaps they did too many with him, though.

It's just about the only Bond film I ever disliked. I didn't hate it, but still. 4/10. I remember seeing it 10 years ago, when it first came out at the cinema. Should I watch it again, in hopes of lightening up about it? 24 main series Bond films, and I liked 23 of them.

Perhaps if it had more action. Or a better overall plot device. Or Q and Moneypenny. And yet, it wasn't dreadful or anything.

I've been reading bits of that chunky book about the Nazi regime, and the early stuff is basically about the Weimar Republic (since it was immediately before and arguably gave way to the Nazi regime). Pretty interesting stuff. Lots of religious influence, many weak governments and leaders who didn't last long, various people complaining about things, bitterness about WW1, and the influence of American culture on people.

The Weimar Republic may not be something people have written much about, or made many documentaries about, but at least one guy has a reasonable amount to say.
